Repercussions, Physical and Emotional [Windchaser Pavilion]

So focused was she on controlling her fear and trying to plan a course of action that Taylani had managed to force her chill from her mind. The fire in the living area meant that the tent was reasonably warm but being soaked through meant that reasonably warm was still chilled to Taylani. She still didn't notice her skin being clammy, the random shivers that occasionally ran through her body until Waisana wrapped her ruined dress around her foot and ankle. The cold material seemed to ignite the coolness, and Taylani stopped the combing of her hair so that she could wrap her arms around her body, her hands rubbed her upper arms.

The fire in the other woman's voice when she cursed startled Taylani, though her words confused her. "A web? What do you mean by the web? How am I tied to it?" Taylani had, of course, heard about Djed and Reimancy though she never dabbled or had a desire to learn. So in effect she knew there were things that people could do that could not be explained by the common knowledge of how things worked. But of course since Drykas do not divulge webbing secrets to outsiders she had never heard of that.

Yet the thought that she would always be somehow traceable to Fallan stabbed her with pain. Not because she had expected to be allowed to go free now, because she had already seen his determination to keep her with him, though she did not know why he wanted to. She was not skillful, it is not as if there aren't other females available to him -she knew two already who's families seemed desperate to rid themselves of them and marry them off- if it was babies he wanted so badly. The why did not matter, it is what it is and now Taylani knew without a doubt that her feeling of being chained with invisible chains, though she had thought of it as the hope he dangled in front of her of free passage to Syliras was the chains. Now she realized that she was forever tied to this place, no matter the bargain.

"Then that is it. He might as well throw me in real chains." She laughed a short bitter laugh, "He very well might decide to do that anyway after this.." She added remembering his threats if she did anything to harm a child he had gotten upon her.

Why was Waisana not surprised? The web was of such important to the Drykas that they didn't give information of it freely to outsiders. Taylani was married to a Drykas but that didn't stop her being an outsider. Fallan wouldn't have told her on a whim but if he didn't want her running off he could have said something. But would the woman have believed him?

"The web is a Drykas thing. It involves Djed and it's sort of...woven. Everyone involved with the Drykas is woven into it for tracking, even the horses. Striders are supposed to be Drykas from a past life, come back because they're still attached to the web. I don't fully understand it myself but you can find anybody. Not only that but you can tell things about them to. Don't ask me what, I don't know, I'm not a webber," she told the captive.

The healer took off her cloak, which had dried since she'd been there, and wrapped it around Taylani's shoulders. She couldn't let the other woman freeze, she needed warmth and she needed it now. At least her garment was warm from her body.

"I'm really sorry, Taylani, truly, but right now you have to worry about surviving. You need to warm up now or your body could have a nasty reaction. You're a fighter, do not give up, girl!" she snapped out, hoping to get her to stop wallowing in self-pity.

"Still attached to the web?" Taylani repeats almost dumbly, feeling the familiar warmth of anger piercing through the cold fear and numbness that had invaded her body. "You mean that being attached to this..this web ties you there..in future lives?" Past lives, future lives, all this was something that Taylani did firmly believe in. The ideal that not only had his people forced her to remain here in this life, but that he might have relegated her to be forever entwined without her knowledge sent a rage that she hadn't felt within her since he had first purchased her.

"Can it be undone? Or is it too late for that?" She accepted the cloak, but she reluctantly looked toward the jeweler kit that she had left here. She had also left one other thing, clothing she had purchased since her now-ruined dress was already showing signs of wear. She hadn't planned on needing it, the outfit far too Drykas for her taste, and had not yet worn it.

She moved toward the jeweler kit, rolling to her left to raise on her knees surprised at how lethargic her limbs were. It took effort to move them but they moved, and she opened the kit to find the lilac-colored blouse folded neatly on top of the green dancers pant. She shrugged back off the cloak, and dragged the light purple blouse over her head letting the clothing slide into place.

The green pant was a little more complicated, but she was determined to work them on any help that the healer might offer is summarily rejected as she gingerly places weight on her injured foot and ankle so that she could pull them up. The effect was not something that Taylani thought about at this time, though the colors were remarkably bright compared to the plain beige of her past dress, that now lay wet and rumpled beside her.

"Then warm up I shall." Her hair was combed, still wet but no longer looking like a rag muffin, and if her face was a little pinched every time she took a step and slightly pale it did not detract from the fire of anger in her eyes. Though she still grimaced with every step, and her arms still crossed to provide more warmth, Taylani starts toward the living area where there were still coals..but also -at least she thinks- to wait for Fallan to return.

"I am fine, " She said grimly, as she passed the healer, "If I need to warm then there is a ..." The words are stopped short from her lips when she rounds the partition into the living area, her steps falter when she sees Fallan warming himself by the fire.

Repercussions, Physical and Emotional [Windchaser Pavilion]

Fallan had overheard enough before to know better than to attempt to eavesdrop further for he would not hear anything that he wanted to know. The possibility of pregnancy was something that he had of course desired and dreaded in the equal measures of any potential new father but with the added knowledge that it shortened the time available for her to become accustomed to being here. It also made the conversation that he'd intended more complicated.

For all that he avoided listening to the words, there was a cutting edge to the tone of voice which could not be avoided. He wasn't entirely surprised then when the faint scuffling sounds were then followed by the appearance of one of the women. He would have lost a bet though on which one of them would be first to appear since he'd thought that Taylani would sulk.

The expression on her face now though. He nodded at her and avoided her eyes beyond the first glance, turning his attention back to the fire, though likely enough it was cool compared to the fires which he imagined burning in her eyes.

He shifted the pot which was now to nearly boiling to the edge of the flame. "The water is boiled if you wish to drink something hot." He turned back to meet her gaze, his expression neutral, wondering if she would would explode or if she would bank the anger and nurse it instead.

The young healer frowned as she considered the woman's question. She didn't know much about webbing but she doubted that another Drykas could have answered it. She didn't think that any had ever considered removing someone from the web, it seemed unthinkable. But she didn't know so she answered honestly.

"I don't know. It might be possible but I honestly have no idea," she replied, a frown creasing her forehead. Waisana watched in silence as the woman put on dry clothing, clothes that certainly weren't Drykas. The girl wondered idly if these were the clothes from her old life that had been brought with her.

She watched as the woman crossed to enter the living area, clearly determined to warm herself up now. There had still been a few live coals when Waisana had been out there but Taylani stopped short and seemed to stare silently ahead of her. Then a distinctly male voice reached the healer's ears: her husband. Jumping to her feet, she moved to the woman's side and gave the man a stern look.

"Have you been enjoying yourself sitting there and eavesdropping?" she asked him in Pavi, an edge to her voice. Her gestures betrayed her anger with him. How dare he intrude! "Couldn't you have just gone away and given the girl some peace? She's been through an ordeal, one that's your fault, so why don't you go away and stop adding to her anxiety? You can go and stand out in the rain for all I care."
