Time Stamp 29 Fall 513

The park was quiet, the chill of fall setting in coupled with the damp air meant that there were a few in the park, but they were generally moving to get where they were going. The storm that blew in a couple days past was perhaps the harbinger of cooler weather though the wind and air are not the cold that winter will bring. There are a few citizens of Riverfall who find the cooler air bracing, and one of those was the large Akalak man of dark green hue.

His garb today was his usual, leather breeches, leather shirt though in deference to the cooler air the shirt is one that is sleeved. His hair was braided as always in the tight strip down the center of his scalp, either side cleanly shaven. He didn't seem to be doing much this morning, which is odd in and of itself, though if someone were of the mind they might assume he was sitting in the natural beauty of the park to meditate.

His pale blue eyes were closed, though his body language suggested that he was at least somewhat aware of his surroundings for when someone passed close his muscles stiffened. Today he was practicing discipline, using meditation and quiet to focus the control needed.

Unarmed Doesn't Mean Harmless [Semele Park]

Postby Alister Val'Tec on October 18th, 2013, 3:05 pm

The morning was like any other for the Kelvic Alister Val'tec. He woke with a mild headache and a empty bottle of ale next to his small bed. Swearing to himself he wouldn't drink as heavy as he did the night before but knowing that he would do it again that night or the next. He knew that the best way to remove his hang over would be to drink more but this day he had things he needed doing and he would not put them off any longer. Alister had been saying to himself for days that he would start learning real hand to hand combat and not just bar room brawling. While he was not shabby in a bar fight he wanted to become more Competent in fighting. He knew he could fight his way out of minor situations but he needed more skills to make sure he doesn't get him self killed before his time. Getting out of his bed he threw on his simple clothes and walked over to his wash bowl and started cleaning his face. Looking in the small mirror by the bowl Alister looked into his own eyes and smiled.

"Oh Alister you look like hell today." He said to himself as he ran his fingers in his red and black hair. After a few minutes and looking much better then he did before he went to put on his nice black leather boots and leather cape. Pushing open his door and locking it behind him, Alister walked into the daylight and looked into the blue sky. Today there was only a few clouds dotting the perfect blue of the heavens. Thank the gods its a beautiful day. Walking down the stone road Alister casually walked around the town. His first stop was at the Almond Blossom. While he perfered a tavern or ale house this was not a day for drinking. Opening the door he was greeted by a very nice human woman and was shown to a small table in the corner. Alister knew what he was going to get and quickly ordered a simple green tea and a small breakfast of cured meats, crackers and cheese. While he normally didn't eat cured meats he was feeling like he needed something very salty in his system before he went and fought. When his small platter and tea was delivered he was slow and careful not to eat to fast. Last time he had and hangover he scarfed down a platter of bones and marrow and then threw it all up right after he left the tavern. After about twenty minutes eating and drinking his tea Alister dropped a few silver on the table and waved good bye to the nice server

Opening the door into the bright sunlight and feeling ten times better after his small meal Alister began walking to the steps that led to the top tear of Riverfall. After only being in Riverfall for a few days Alister could feel his legs already becoming strong from his daily walks around the city. Stairs were everywhere and now he knew why the Akalak were so fast and strong. Continuing down the road he came up to the beautiful bridge that crossed the Bluevein River Looking at the wall that stretched over the mighty river. It was amazing what people could build some times and looking over the three tiered city down to the water front Alister couldn't have picked a better city to move to and live. The domed buildings made of stone and painted beautiful colors inspired Alister to be production on days like this. While he didn't like to socialize outside of the tavern it made him almost want to talk to strangers, Almost.

Crossing the bridge and into the left side of the city where most of the businesses were located and the place he was heading for his training. Walking by the academy and the medical center where many Akalak and human were walking about going about whatever chore or business they had Alister came across the Butcher shop. The smell of fresh meat brought water to his mouth and he knew he would be going there after his training to get some fresh bones to eat. It had been a few days since he munched on fresh bones in his vulture form. The city had too many good restaurants that served great roasted bones and they even took the marrow out for him. Never before did he think that he could get his fill without cracking dozens of bones himself.
Passing the tempting butchershop Alister walked to the building he was looking for, Tuvya Sasaran. Walking up to the doors and opening them he was greeted by a Akalak that had to be seven feet tall and looked like he could snap Alister in two. The room was just a tall desk with a wall behind it and two hallways leading away from it on the left and right. The Akalak stared at Alister like he was lost but the Kelvic just walked up to the desk and just blunted told him what he wanted.

"Excuse me i would like to train with some of your students in Hand to hand combat."

"Hmm We don't get many Kelvic in these halls. Many of our students might not fight you, and many might just want to teach you a lesson in coming into a Akalak Training hall. Are you sure you want to do this and do you have and unarmed combat skills?"

"I'm somewhat of a tavern brawler and i would like to beef up my strength in both if it is at all possible."

"Well we do have a student that might be interested in a spar but right now he is in the park around the corner. I don't think it would be a good idea to have you train with our more experienced students at this time but he might be willing to spar." Said the Akalak. "His name is Favchean Hronis."

Alister left the training hall and walked down the stone road to the park and he saw the Akalak he was looking for almost at once. He was obviously meditating and Alister with out much hesitation walked to the man.
"Hey are you Favchean Hronis? Some Akalak at the training hall send me to you to see if you were willing to spar and teach me a little."

The moment the other walked close to Favchean, the Akalak knew someone was there, though he didn't expect to be spoken too. So when the other voices his request, Favchean lost his moment of calm and opened his eyes. Normally the green Akalak is slow to speak, a bit more serious and rarely jests just to jest especially with strangers. However today his eyes were lit, and what could only be described as a smirk curved his lips.

"Teach you what? How to meditate? Sit down, close your eyes..and don't speak." Now the smirk curves into a grin before he spoke again. "There is many different things that can be taught, that include sparring. I am handy with the dagger, better with my hands. Neither of which sparring is the first lesson to give, unless you have already base foundation."

Uncurling his legs, the large man stands not bothering to straighten his clothing. His arms cross over his broad chest, and he looks down at the kelvic, his dark braid brushing his shoulders. "I am also not sure why they would think I could teach anyone, I am not a teacher. However if you wish to learn, I don't mind showing what I do know."

Alister smile at the Alalak as he spoke. obviously the guy didn't think that he was much of anything. He guessed after a few rounds sparring he would change his mind or not. While Favchean was of a impressive size Alister had fought big guys and managed to get out of the fight with his hide still intact.

"well i figure they didn't want me getting killed in the training halls but you know i always say the best way to learn is just to start. I do have a little skill in tavern brawling but that can only get you so far without and real practice at hand to hand combat." Said Alister as he undid his cape and took off his Shirt. His scars that cover his chest made him look like he had been around a bit and hopefully Alister would be able to convince the Akalak that he might be worth having a good fight with.

While Favchean eyed Alister he began to stretch out. Taking off his boot he glanced at the Akalak. "Alright so what do you think how bout a few rounds of friendly sparing first to see where we are at?"

Favchean watched the smaller man with a bit of amusement in his blue eyes. Though he didn't move from his stance, her arms folded carefully and his legs set apart for balance, his muscles ripple faintly as he shifts his balance from the heels of his feet to the balls of his feet, for better reflexes. If his light brother had been in control, already Favchean would have just laughed and walked away. For the light side rarely had time with people who wanted to simply fight for the sake of fighting, or really wasting time period. However today the dark brother reigned and it amused him to find more out about the people around him.

The scars did little to impress Favchean, in his mind they simply meant one of two things, the young man fought too often or did not block strikes nearly well enough...or maybe both. "You are too eager to fight. You might ..." Favchean stopped, one hand idly raising to scratch an itch on the side of his neck even as he considered his words and changed them, "You probably brawl in taverns quite a bit. But brawling is mindless and is in the heat of the moment. There is little to that then just flailing about, and making use of luck in finding something suitable around for a weapon."

Now Favchean loosens his stance a little, exhaling slowly before inhaling once more deeply. He does not stretch, or take clothing off, instead he goes into a slow movement. The movement is infinitely controlled, every muscle working as Favchean willed it, with no extra movement as he went from a standing, to a crouching position, his arms extending in a block maneuver. Then he raises and slips his feet to plant one in front of the other, twisting his hips and extending one arm again, this time in a slow-motion punch.

Once that is done he straightens again. "Unarmed fighting, using only your discipline, your will, and your body as weapons takes patience. It takes focus, and it takes discipline. None of which can be taught by simply jumping into a fight. I have not Mastered the art, but I have spent many years focusing on learning and honing. It is not something that comes from the rashness of battle-thought. Instead you must learn the slow steps, the process and then practice so that they can be done even when your mind is fogged with the competition that is battle."

Unarmed Doesn't Mean Harmless [Semele Park]

Postby Alister Val'Tec on October 21st, 2013, 3:01 am

Alister walked a little closer to Favchean as he listened to his speech on what unarmed fight was. While it was true Alister was more of a brawler instinct always saved his life in times of peril and he would never discount how effective it was when cornered. As the Akalak began showing him the basics of what a proper stance was and how to use your momentum to increase the power of your strike. The lesson was remarkably detailed and it went from basic punches and kicks to how to grab some one and throw them. The throwing part Alister felt was a little more painful than he wanted. After the third throw he knew that he was going to have some bruises down his back and arms. Most of what Favchean was doing was all demonstration and it was very long until Alister had been thrown hard into the ground and began to laught.

"Hahahah that one is going to leave a mark for sure. I know i asked for this but i wish we were in a training hall where i'm not getting torn up from all the grass and stones. Some times i think this town is too hard for its own good." Alister picked himself up from the ground and dusted himself off and cracked his back and smiled. "What else do you have to teach this is more fun than i have had in a while, There is something about fighting that just makes me what to keep going, i'm a little stubborn and i don't quit easy so lets see what else you have."
