Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

"I'm working at the Terra Cottage - the pottery shop. I don't know if you're familiar with it? It's near the Antiquities Society." Those had been the words Serenity had used to describe the location of her workplace. As he had told her four days ago, he had been in the area before. A visit to the Zjongie Warrens had spurred his body to develop a shell, just like his encounter on the bridge had been etched into his clay by two simple lines on his sides. Unlike the new lines, though, he had a good idea of what the shell was supposed to represent: protection against inattentive Akalak feet.

He had learned from that encounter, and stayed as close to the edge of the road as possible, preferring to make his way through debris and the first fallen autumn leaves rather then sticking to the busier parts where he had to keep an eye on traffic at all times. He could of course make sure he was noticed, as he had done on Christina's Remorse, but that was such a nerfwracking experience that he tended to feel drained whenever he tried it.

This was exactly why he was in the area, of course. Serenity had been kind enough to get him out of that uncomfortable situation, and to return the favor, he had offered to pose for her, demonstrating the way he could adjust his body to help her better understand how to shape clay. But first, he would have to find the place where she worked.

He started his search at the Antiques Society, which she had used as a reference point, and made his way westward from there, away from the Warrens and the Condos, towards the businesses. There were a small number of them here, all of them meticulously maintained, each displaying its own assortment of specialized goods. The shop he was looking for was easy to pick out, once he had discovered the right alleyway. The three shelves of red-brown jugs and jars announced the presence of the Terra Cottage far better then any sign could.

With a small ramp leading to the entrance, and a door that stood invitingly open, entering here was easy when compared to some other buildings in town. Whether these were permanent features or added because his arrival was expected, he didn't know. It could be simply useful decoration, but it also wouldn't surprise him if Serenity had noticed the size of the threshold upon arriving home, and decided to make things a little easier for him.

The Pycon boldly marched into the front room, hoping to see the blue-green and gold of his hostess rather then the unfamiliar features of the owner of the place. "Hello?"

How Clay Takes Shape [Kirsi]

Kirsi moved about the shop, dusting pots and repositioning clay vessels as she went. Though not technically working, she wanted to be close at hand when Art showed up; it wouldn't due to make the Pycon shout throughout the store until Garob heard him. So she kept busy doing small things, chatting with familiar faces and admiring anew Garob's artistry in his work.

It wasn't that she never noticed how he was able to make the heavy clay constructs seem at once sturdy and delicate. But today the Vantha had a new excitement for the effect; Art was coming to demonstrate the movement of clay, and Kirsi hoped that closer inspection would lead her to a more intuitive relationship with the medium. Try though she may, she continued to be a heavy-handed sculptor at best, pushing and pulling the clay with entirely too much force. The result was often ungainly and inelegant, while Kirsi was aiming for lovely and graceful.

A familiar voice broke into her thoughts, and Kirsi's eyes scanned the ground at the door. Sure enough, her guest had arrived. With a bright smile, Kirsi set down the jar bowl she'd been puttering with and moved to greet the Pycon. "Hello, Art! Welcome to the Terra Cottage. How are you? Did you have any trouble finding your way?" She hadn't exactly given the clay turtle the most helpful of directions, and she was glad that he'd made it in spite of her.

Standing back a few steps, so that she wouldn't tower over the diminutive figure, Kirsi pointed to a door at the rear of the shop. "The work shop is through that door; would you like to see some of Garob's pottery before we begin, or would you rather head straight back?" Kirsi remembered the little creature's words; though he'd said that changing his shape wasn't painful, he'd also said it wasn't terribly fun, either. She would let him decide when he felt like undertaking the less-than-pleasant task of demonstrating clay movements.
