Riken Avadur ![]() Characteristics: Born: 13th of Fall, 491 AV. Age: 22. Height: 5’ 7”. Weight: 150 lbs. Appearance: Riken Avadur is a man of average stature and somewhat athletic build. His brown hair is usually kept short, cropped right above his hazel eyes. Often seen clad in simple leather attire, the calm-seeming gentleman carries himself with a determined intent in every action. Fluid and deliberate motions accompany a polite expression, although reaching beneath the myriad of Riken's facades can be somewhat more difficult. Personality: Somewhat fractured by childhood trauma, Riken's personality is a peculiar beast that has developed into a scarred psyche. Starting from the need to detach himself from his own history, Riken is now fond of playing different roles for a variety of reasons, referring to them as his "masks" or facades. Eventually his mind began to shape itself accordingly, and his acting became essentially second nature. This aspect, coupled with a remarkably keen sense of observation borne from a dangerous life, led to the situation Riken currently finds himself in; an occupation as an Information Dealer. Extremely untrusting, Riken Avadur remains a polite gentleman, and does not dislike anyone who does not deserve it. For those who do truly befriend this man, they find a very loyal and capable friend, with many skeletons in his doubly-locked closet. Background: Riken was the unwanted child of two lower class workers in the anarchic city of Sunberth. His father, a chronic gambler and overall terrible human-being, had accrued an exorbitant amount of debt that he was no longer able to pay. Panicking, he offered his wife and child as a trade for his freedom. The sharks agreed, and off the man went. His wife was sold to a brothel to help pay off the money they owed, and the son was used for labor and servitude. Riken was about 8 years old. At 13, Riken made his first true escape attempt. During the sixth hour of transporting planks of wood, the young kid "accidentally" shoved the laborer in front of him to the side, knocking him tumbling down the dirt ditch to his right. When the man rose, and furiously approached the young kid, he found a teenager with blood dripping down his arms. Riken cried and yelled about how this man had attacked him to attempt to get away. As the guards stood confused and eventually moved to restrain and beat the poor soul who had been framed, Riken slipped away as fast as his legs would carry him. He tied his sleeves closed once more as he ran, his self-inflicted wounds more painful than expected, but nothing new. He hid in an abandoned storage shed near the warehouse, hoping his plan had worked. Sitting between empty, cobwebbed barrels, every sound played tricks on the boy's mind. He had never been all that right in the head since being separated from his parents, but he managed. Now however, was simply cruel. As the young child was finally calming down, one of the guards from the group had stumbled upon the small shed by chance, and so ended Riken's escape. More beatings would ensue, but once again, this was nothing new. At 15, Riken watched as his mother was killed right before his eyes. One of the Sun's Birth had come to her brothel and raped her in the night, and before she had chance to call for her madame, the man cut her throat and bailed. Riken saw the whole affair from beneath his mother's bed, and would not leave until the madame dragged him away from the scene. Such was the extent of her pity. The next few weeks would test the boy to the extremes, and when they had passed, there would be no turning back. At 17, Riken met Sir Jeric, who would be his avenue to freedom. Employing him as an agent, Sir Jeric and the other men in his obscure group used the young Riken's unknown face and peculiarly sharp mind to help scour out the habits of certain individuals and learn whatever skeletons hid in their closets. Riken enjoyed the thrill of being someone other than the poor, unfortunate street-urchin, and for a while, things were well enough. At 20, Riken finally made his escape from the hellish city of Sunberth. After finding out Sir Jeric was a low-status knight working for the same man who had killed his mother, the now-capable information dealer had confronted his idol and patron about the matter. Being offered the chance to make amends, or leave his home forever, Riken chose the latter. It was not much of a home, anyways... ((To be Continued as the Tale Spins)) 100 Questions.
