Fall, Day 9, 513 The city was still settling into its new spot on the sea and the weather was cooling just a little. The Semestrong Pavilion was finally un-packed and things were getting back into routine. All of the tents were up and furnished. The family were able to fall back into business as usual, deciding what horses to breed, get the horses ready for sale, care for the hurt or sick, and of course continue repairs or building things they were working on before the seasonal move. Iyone and Peora had settled into their routine rather easily as the toddler was more aware of what was happening. It had been over a year since the Pox outbreak and Iyone was still worried it might come back or some bit of it might still be out there. She still had nightmares about it and her family dying and not having enough of the cure to go around. There were days after having one of the nightmares that she would over watch Peora and study her to see if any signs of illness were present. Even the slightest sniffle or cough would make her tense up and eventually it would overwhelm her so much that she had to go to the healers right away. Iyone ended up doing exactly that at least three times a season if not more. The healers were getting used to it and some were harsh and others were understanding and took time to ease Iyone. This was the reason she was in the healers’ tent sitting on a chair waiting to be seen. It was just after lunch so Pey had gotten some energy and was twirling around happily waving the few flowers she had picked up along the way here. Pey did easily entertain herself and it did settle some of Iyone’s nerves. It was the nightmare that was vivid and made it seem like it was just the other day that they were all in the healing center and all squished on cots close to one another because there were so many people with the Pox needing care. It was those images that made her shiver and fall into a sense of fear. And until they were cleared of any illness would she relax again. |
