Appearance Race: Dryka Gender: Male Age: 21 Birthday: 19, Fall, 492 Birthplace: In the city of Endrykas Appearance: Darius has mildly long brown hair, hanging a few inches above his shoulder that he leaves down at all times. His eyes are a little more sunken than someone of his age normally are and are a shocking, bright blue. His face is somewhat narrow with a sharp jawline. For a Dryka, he isn’t particularly muscular, although he would be considered in quite good shape for someone who hadn’t grown up on the ocean and the plain. He has narrow shoulders and is about average height. He wears deep shades of blue and currently has a short, dark green cloak that he keeps draped about his shoulders. His windmarks are fresh and he proudly displays them with rolled up sleeves.

Character Concept Darius is absolutely, utterly devoted to mastering as many disciplines of magic as possible. This is not really a rational goal, but after both sides of his family were killed, he blames the gods and thinks that if he understood magic, he could prevent something like that from ever happening again. While he still worships Laviku, he is pretty angry with the gods in general and hopes that if he develops enough magical ability, he will be able to rival their power—or at least defend people when the gods seek for them to die.
He has never been in particular awe of authority. While he isn’t an anarchist, he does believe that independence and freedom are peoples’ most valuable possessions and that personal judgment should always trump the word of law. In general, he ignores things he isn’t really interested in, and in everyday life is very easygoing. He makes easy connections with people and deeply loved his family. If anything seeks to harm his friends or family, though, he is willing to do anything to protect them. Seeing as he sees the pursuit of magical knowledge as vital to protecting future friends and family, he will also do nearly anything to learn more. If he worships any gods, they are Laviku and Eyris. Darius really, really likes learning about and performing any sort of magic. He learned Webbing early in his life and was later initiated into Reimancy, and is pretty good at both. He loves sailing and riding, and sees them as two sides of the same coin of his birth. He also enjoys physical activity, although his studies often take precedence. He is a strong swimmer, even more than many pure Svefra. Unfortunately for him, Darius is terrible at knot tying, a particularly important part of sailing. So while he enjoys sailing, he isn’t that good at it. As this is a major part of Dryka culture as well, this limits him quite a bit in both societies. Also, he is generally negative towards the gods, with the exception of Laviku and the god he feels is most beneficial for him to worship in his quest, Eyris.
Character History Pre-Creation: Darius was born to a female Dryka of the Sapphire Clan and a Svefra father. He was raised from birth to age 10 with the Sapphire Clan in his mother’s pavilion. There he learned about riding—though never bonded with a Strider—and a lot about Webbing, as even then he was very interested in learning magic. When he was ten, a fire consumed his mother’s pavilion and the surviving members could not afford to restore it, forcing them to scatter amongst the other pavilions. Having no other pavilion to return to, Darius’s father moved them to the sea and returned to his pod. There Darius learned about sailing and a bit more about Reimancy. He continued to practice his magic disciplines as he rode the sea with his father’s pod. He enjoyed his time both on the plains and on the ocean, as he got along well with both his father and his mother’s kin and his family life was rather stable and loving. However, when he was 19, the great storm of 512 struck and his pod’s ship sunk taking nearly all of his family with it. He managed to survive and was washed shore but his entire family was dead. He spend a while in mild depression, blaming the gods for the loss of his family. Eventually, while listening to old legends, he heard the suggestion that a powerful magician was like a god. Or perhaps that a magician could ascend to godhood. He really doesn’t quite remember, as he wasn’t really in a stable state of mind at the time, he just remembers some connection between the gods and magic and became convinced that with enough magical ability, he protect others from the wrath of the gods. While in the city of Kenash as he recovered from the wreck, he managed to pick up a little Sheilding magic, believing it to be the most useful in protecting others. After a few months in the city, he had regained enough money to buy some supplies to set out for Endrykas, guided by his knowledge of Webbing. It was only recently, during his trip through the Sea of Grass back to Endrykas that he came across his Strider and had his windmarks applied by an artisan in a pavilion he spent some time with on the way to the city.
