The fiftieth day of Fall, 513 A.V.

Another late evening of cleaning had been on the agenda for Meville that day. While not common, every now and then Jennai would absolutely need him to go clean out the vacated rooms. His tasks generally included an overall sweep down to remove what dust had accumulated and to find of and dispose of whatever goodies the patrons had left behind. He'd started fairly early on in the day, and had been cleaning for a good long while until he'd become too tired to continue, having sat down in one of the chairs in one of the many cabins he'd been cleaning for the majority of the day.

Lifting the fingers of his left hand to his lips, Meville bit down on the air, slowly pulling the astral arm off of his physical one. The glyphs on his shoulders shone slightly, even through the fabric of the light shirt he was wearing. Sighing with relief, Meville then proceeded to lean forward and scratch his back, letting the tingling sensation soothe some of the weariness from his body. After a few chimes, Meville then removed his other arm, letting it drift over to where he'd left the broom, picking it up and dragging it over. "
I don't know why I've been doing everything manually this whole time." He grumbled at the responsive broom as it passed by, heading to the corner of the room that had yet to be swept.

Letting his other arm go to join his right, Meville eased back into his chair as his projected limbs began to sweep the floor. Though his body had become fatigued from the day, his Djed still had plenty to give. While it certainly took a different kind of energy, sweeping with projection was worlds more simple than doing it with his weaker physical body. While it was true his astral form couldn't lift nearly the weight his corporeal form could, the astral could go for much longer, unburdened by the magical ailments Meville suffered. So, as the broom moved about the room, he was content to watch. It required more effort that he appeared to be giving, as the commands for movement were slightly delayed, but Meville wasn't in the mood for walking, let alone sweeping.

Once the floor had been dealt with, there was a neat little pile of dust sitting just out of reach of the swing of the door. Against his better judgement, Meville twisted the handle, pulling the door open with his invisible limbs. With the portal to the outside world revealed, Meville swept out the dirt with three final strokes of the broom, before pulling in both broom and arms before shutting in. Setting down the now useless stick and bristles, Meville drew his arms back to him, massaging his temples with the tips of his pointer fingers. Projection was just so very convenient when it came to things like scratching places he couldn't quite reach, or grabbing something that was just too high. There were, of course, more ways to employ the personal magic, but Meville had never really had to. His life was pleasantly mundane, which meant he could use his astral body to do whatever the petch he pleased.

Slipping back into his physical limbs, Meville flexed his fingers, making sure all the connections were correct. One of the few things his father had advised him on was to always make sure the limbs reconnected correctly, lest terrible things befall him. What, exactly, those terrible things were, Meville wasn't about to find out. It was much better to avoid that which those that came before suggested rather than to rush in and experience the pain first hand. While certainly mischievous and curious, Meville wasn't daft. Everything seemed to be in working order.

Rising out of the chair, Meville ambled over to the broom, kneeling down to snatch it up and glare at the faceless wood. "
Why can't I just enchant you to sweep for me, hm?" His slight frown quickly shifted into a laughing smile. "Wouldn't that be ridiculous. A broom that sweep all on its own? Preposterous. With that sort of power you'd be pushing for your own rights, I'd imagine." The idea of a broom gaining sentience was slightly less appealing than it just mindlessly doing work. If Meville so disliked sweeping with the broom, he could only imagine how awful it would be to sweep as the broom. Deciding it was best not to give the piece of wood any more ideas, Meville fell into silence as he exited the cabin.

Outside, the snow was happily drifting down, coating the already stark white world in yet another blanket of ivory quiet. Shivering slightly, Meville pulled on his coat before trudging across the way to the next cabin. Rapping on the door with several quick strikes, he called out, "
Yes, hello? Is anyone there?" Not receiving a response for several chimes, Meville pulled a ring of keys out of his pocket, selecting the correct one and swiftly unlocking the door, slipped inside. The sight that met him was startling to say the least.

In the middle of the room lay two figures, neither dressed, but both eyeing him with open mouthed horror. They had, it seemed, been in the act of copulating and must not have heard Meville's question. The three of them stood statuesque for a few beats before Meville snorted out a chuckle. "
Chilly, isn't it." At that, the man quickly covered his nethers, moving into a more protective position over the woman behind him. "Well, aren't you just the charming young man." Meville laughed then, letting the door close behind him as he removed his gloves and set the broom against the wall. "While I am terribly sorry about interrupting you during your little 'activity', neither of you appear to be Bingly Wellston, so I'm just going to make the assumption you snuck in for some privacy."

At that, the man turned to the woman, muttering in Vani. "I'll handle this idiot. Commoners aren't that difficult to persuade." She nodded, glaring back at Meville now that the initial shock had passed. It seemed the two of them felt entitled to their stolen privacy, a notion that only served to widen his grin. Shaking his head, Meville winked that the two of them. "
Maybe I hearing you wrong, but I will saying I am not so easy to 'persuade'." Again, the two Vantha's eyes widened, to which Meville just gave a happy shrug as he removed his coat.

Glancing from the woman to Meville, the man decided to address the newcomer. "I-I'm sorry... I didn't realize..."

"
That someone working at the Warrens actually understands Vani? It certainly is a surprise, you're right." The sarcasm was heavy as Meville ambled over to the ice box, opening it for a moment to confirm there wasn't anything left inside. "Of course, you'd be correct in assuming I don't speak it as well as a native, or, for that matter, a talkative child." He ran a finger over the counter, checking for residue. "Still, it's a bit narrow minded of you, don't you think?"

The man frowned, obviously having a difficult time translating in his head. The woman, however, scowled. He voice came out as a slight crack before she swallowed and tried again, this time in fairly decent Common. "Just because you work here doesn't give you the right to admonish judgement upon us!"

Meville raised his brows, pausing in the middle of rubbing out a dark smudge on the countertops with a rag he'd pulled from his back pocket. "
Judgement? Oh no. I couldn't care any less what you two do on your own time. However," He'd returned to scrubbing the counter. "You're on my time now, and if you'd like me to keep this little fiasco a secret, you would do well to make yourselves useful."

There was a little gasp of fury that was quickly followed by, "And what do you mean by that?!"

Meville turned, grinning a particularly devilish smile. "
For starters, empty out the chamber pots, sweep the floors, and put that waste bin outside." Winking, he added. "Or perhaps I should notify the lovely Whitevines their dear little Aura was sleeping with Thoren Frostfawn, hm?" Both seemed stunned he'd known their names. The two were much slower than he'd thought they would be. They were, in a sense, a bit of a scandal among the two holds. Neither wanted to be wed to their parent's choices, but neither wanted to be disowned by their holds. Thus, they had been working to try to get everyone on the same page by vowing their purity of love. Catching the two of them together gave him quite the leverage.

"H-He can't prove it."

"
Ah, that may be true, but the time and place certainly don't work in either of your favors."

She scowled, standing up in her stark nudity, clothed only in her own rage. "Fine." Turning to Thoren, she commanded him in her haughty Vani, "Get your pants and start sweeping." After which she stomped off to the back room to clothe herself. Thoren, dazed and uncertain, rose, still hiding himself, and wiggled into his pants before giving Meville a lost glance.

Gesturing at the broom, Meville grinned. "
Sweep."

With the assistance of Thoren and his bristling lady, Meville finished the rest of the cabins in no time. The two of them got the knack of things after the third room, and by the end they were doing things mostly on their own with Meville checking in on them. He felt very much like Jennai, poking his head in to make sure everything was in working order. The power felt excellent, though the one time Thoren had spilled a chamber pot in the middle of the floor had taken quite a few chimes to clean up. Overall, however, the pair did exceedingly well. Thoren even went as far as happily chatting with Meville as they walked back to the main lodge, speaking far to fast for Meville to get the majority of his jokes, though he still grinned politely which was more than enough to keep him yaking.

As for Aura, she was much more tacit. While she had stopped throwing things at him whenever he told her to do something, she wasn't making any effort to form a friendly relationship. He found her very similar to Lorelle's more frustrated moods, though while Lorelle would have cracked by now, she clung to them like an icicle. Icy or not, he and Thoren had become quite good chums, if only for the day, so he had chosen to focus the majority of his sociability on the shorter, louder man. At the moment, he was describing a hunting trip his father and he had gone on that had gone terribly wrong. From the sound of things, Meville was surprised Thoren was still alive to tell the tale.

Pushing open the door into the main building of the Warrens, the three of them filed in, shaking the snow from their bodies and relaxing some in the happy warmth of the fire. Geninsi looked up from her desk, but seeing Meville, she only smiled and returned to what she was doing. "
Good working today." Thoren grinned, but Aura seemed to have a different idea.

"Today?"

Meville shrugged. "
I am only meaning a nice phrase."

Thoren gave Meville a light punch on the arm. "Compliment!" He chuckled, to which Meville gave a grateful grin.

"
Yes. Compliment."

Aura rolled her eyes, her arms crossed and mouth in what seemed to be her perpetual frown. "Come now, Aura! Don't be so hard on him. I for one actually had a bit of fun today!" Ribbing Meville, he winked, "In more ways than one!"

Not pleased in the slightest, Aura only huffed out her frustration. Thoren, finally catching onto her mood, frowned slightly, offering Meville an apologetic smile. "Well I guess we should be going now, Brightshade." Meville nodded, his nonverbal communication giving them both permission to leave. "And everything is just between us then, yes?"

"
Between us." Meville nodded, his words more solemn than usual. He rather liked Thoren, which meant purposefully getting him into trouble wasn't something he wished upon him. Though, if it were possible to cause a bit of mischief in Aura's life, Meville would have snapped that up in an instant. With a happy nod and wave goodbye, Thoren wrapped his arm around Aura, doing his best to coax her into a better mood as the two of them left.

"Shirking duties again, Meville?"

The address had come from the elderly figure of Geninsi, not bothering to look up from the ledger as she spoke. Meville only shrugged, sitting down in front of the fire to warm his hands. "
It was all in good fun, Nini." The old woman let out a warm chuckle as her quill continued scritching on the parchment. As the flames licked the logs in the hearth, the warmth spread over Meville chilled fingers and nose, sending the burning sensation out over his body in a comfortable pain. "I'll be going then." Rising up, he made a small mock bow in Geninsi's direction, to which she responded with a nod of her head.

"Meville." He stopped, turning a questioning gaze at the old woman. "...Don't catch cold." Grinning, he winked at her before stepping out into the chill.
