Appearance

Race: Mixed; Human (Benshira) and Zith
Gender: Female
Age: Eighteen
Birthday: 33rd day, Season of winter, 495.
Birthplace: In a Zith colony

Appearance:

Basic
With large, dark eyes, an angular jawline, and a slender frame, she's easily mistaken for a beautiful statue from a distance.

Though once approached, it's easy to see that she's less than perfect. Her features are exotic, though strange as a whole, as if someone had fiddled around with the proportions of her features far too much. She appears delicate and fragile, like a doll.

She weighs around 82lbs, and stands at around 5'. She lacks the full, rounded figure of a normal human woman, and looks quite androgynous in tight clothing.

Leggy and long-limbed in general, her skin is stretched tightly over her small, elongated bones, giving her the appearance of an anorexic. Though, she's quite fit, as evidenced by the taut muscle tone underneath her skin. Her hands and feet are small and thin, as her bones are smaller than a human's, and her muscle/fat mass is lower. Her body simply requires less to function properly.

Her skin is naturally the sandy, tan color of a Benshira, but it has an odd gray undertone to it. One of her most beautiful features happens to be her hair, which is thick and wavy and would flow down to her waist if she let it grow uninhibited.

Disfigurements
Because of her mixed parentage, her teeth are slightly larger and sharper than a normal human's. Her teeth fill her jaw a bit more than her skin can accommodate, so her smiles look remarkably like demonic smirks.

She has nubs where her wings would be, as marked by the excess cloth in this picture. Although they're slight and relatively flat, the skin is faintly red and textured, almost like healed-over scar tissue.

Her bones are small and strong, and are thin enough to keep her in the air, if she had wings. Unfortunately, this makes her very weak in terms of physical power. If she became a runner, a swimmer, or an acrobat, her muscles would settle and her body would be stronger that way. But because she's so small, it's not very practical to hope that she'd ever become a physical powerhouse.
---
RECENTLY:

Lately, she's been eating as little as she can get away with, to save money. The outline of her bones are clearly visible through her skin, because her diet is poor. She's only able to sustain such a low body fat percentage and yet be healthy because of her racial characteristics; otherwise, she'd probably be dead.

Her knees, elbows, and knuckles look fairly knobby. Her skin is paper-thin, and it's very easy for her to get injured.

Mannerisms
Her voice is lower and huskier than most women's, but still manages to be distinctly feminine.

She's very comfortable with her body, and tends to walk around without clothing when she's not in the company of others.
In another's company, she wouldn't -- she lacks the soft sensuality of a human woman, and is painfully aware (and insecure) about it.

She spent most of her life in Zith compounds, which were very low-lighted and usually underground. Being out and exposed on the surface is nervewracking for her, and she usually covers her face in daylight.

Strangely enough, she seemed to mature at a human rate, not at a Zith rate. Her emotional maturity was quicker, however, so she acts like an old soul.

Character Concept

Personality
Wide-eyed and observant, Ildiko is most often found watching, rather than speaking. She appears reserved to most, and innocent to many. She speaks carefully, contemplatively, as though she'd intelligently pondered for an extra moment before sharing her thoughts. When with company, she plays the perfect Benshira host, often inconveniencing herself to make her guests comfortable. With an air of constant emotional detachment, she gives the illusion that she's cunning, mysterious, and untouchable.

Her true personality is nothing like that.

She appears stoic, though inside, she's always a bundle of nervous, chaotic emotions. She's constantly aware of her own shortcomings and weaknesses, and very fearful, as a person.

She's calculating, and tries to keep her emotions hidden out of the public face. When she reaches her limit, however, the explosions are exponential.

Her loyalty is dependant on her mood.

Because she spent so much time around Benshira slaves, she does resemble a Benshira woman, if only slightly. Ildiko expresses the same hospitality towards everyone she deems worthy. Ildioko also, however, carries that trademarked Zith coldness towards outsiders, causing people to wonder whether she's prideful or stuck-up or both. This is not paradoxical; she does the bare minimum to be hospitable, but keeps her emotion and warmth out of it. She desperately wants friends and companionship, so she overreaches and does as much she can to keep them satisfied, to the point of making a fool of herself.

She's very passive aggressive, and does not let her guard down easily. Living in a community that valued hunting and testing the weak taught her that only the weak show their flaws first. She considers herself terribly flawed, and therefore is twice as defensive. The passive-aggression stems from being strongly opinionated, and yet not wanting to inflame a situation or cause direct conflict. Though she might judge someone and pick them apart in her mind, she recognizes that she's not strong enough to win the fight that she'd start if she spoke her every thought.

She generally has a lot to say, but she's a woman of few words because she lacks confidence. She loves being around people but somehow manages to be people un-friendly.

Ethics
She lives by a personal code: "Remember your mortality."

She's not against the shedding of blood, though she tries to avoid it.
She'll only stand up for an 'innocent' or someone in need if she recognizes that it's within her power to do so and come out mostly unharmed, or if she sees that there would be some benefit to defending them.

As someone who recognizes that she's weak, she tries to stay out of situations that she can't handle.

She thinks stealing is fine, as long as you don't get caught.

Ildiko has a very open sexuality because of her upbringing, and is not strictly attracted to one sex... or even one partner.

She judges worth and people as the Zith do: if it's useful, strong, intelligent, attractive, or otherwise necessary, it can stay.

If natural selection would have taken it out, if it's unattractive or unnecessary, then it's only fit for eating, and sometimes not even that.

Religion
She learned of Yahal from the Benshira slaves, but he's more of her family heirloom. The only reason why she still considers him at all is because she grew up on her mother's knee, hearing about how he punishes the wicked-hearted.

Ildiko acts as her own god. She lives by her own rules, by her own heart and hand, and she realized at an early age that no god was going to step in and save her from everything. She has no personal relationship with any god, but the one that she knows most about is Yahal. She's never been one for the Zith religion.

After the Djed storm in 512, Ildiko realized that the gods were still alive and kicking, and she shifted focus from 'Staunch Athiest' to 'Hesitantly Religious'.

Her heart is never kept pure enough for Yahal, and she knows it. She has little intention of changing her sensual ways, as well. She just hops that he'll pity her and her situation enough to not curse her.

Fear of retribution from Yahal keeps her from absolute lawlessness, for now, but she's still looking for a household god. Any god that appeals to her will do. If they did something for her, she'd become wholly devoted. Right now, she lives for herself.

Currently, she prays to both Yahal and the Moon God, Leth.
Viratas holds a special appeal and attraction to her, as someone who always felt like an outcast. She's not ready to give herself over to him, though, because that would reportedly arouse Yahal's wrath.

- She's constantly aware of her being half-zith, and knows that Zith aren't regarded in the highest light by other races. To a Zith, she's a zith. To any other race, she doesn't answer their questions, allowing them to assume that she's human. Her fear is that someone will attack her, thinking that she's strong because she's Zith... and will completely overwhelm her. Becoming stronger is her highest priority.

Character History

Childhood
Her mother was a slave in a small Zith colony, a teenage Benshira weaver who lamented her lost innocence. Spending the the rest of her forseen existance in a pack of 'barbarians' broke her down emotionally, so the woman became extremely docile woman that was prone to fits. As a child, Ildiko spent most of her time with her mother. The lack of emotional stability in her life made her withdrawn, immature, and introspective.

Ildiko's father was a high-ranking, influential male in the colony's leadership, and kept the Benshira as a personal slave. When Ildiko was born, he heard her cries and laughed, considering her strong enough to keep.

She spent the rest of her young life trying to prove that fact, that she had been chosen to live, that she was strong and not weak enough to be food, that her father hadn't made a mistake.

Growing up, the Zith saw her as kin, because they knew her father, she had their blood running through her veins, and she could understand their language. Yet, she constantly found herself in fights -- Zith children would fight to prove their dominance, and time and again, Ildiko would lose. They would playfight and knock Ildiko over because of the vast differences in their strength, sometimes intentional, sometimes unintentional.

Her small colony was often run out of its hunting grounds by bigger ones, so they traveled frequently. She's been to a few different settlements because of it, even visiting a few Banshira settlements.

She did experience bullying, though she was too young to really be affected by it. The Zith her age treated her as a member of the family... even if she did resemble a naked Zith without wings.

Teenage
Her teenage years were rougher. She realized that though they did treat her well, she was seen as a cripple by the Zith, because of her lack of wings. They enjoyed conversations with her well enough, and she could hold her own in a taunting match, but she was singled out because she was poor at fighting, where it mattered. She was quiet and often spent time with the slaves when she wasn't hunting, which didn't help her social status one bit. She spent the rest of her time trying to learn skills, something to help her become more useful. Though they accepted her as 'Zith', she always felt 'Other'.

In the Spring 512 Djed storm, many in her community died. Colonies moved, small ones joining with bigger ones for survival. Her colony had to merge with a much larger Zith colony, and that upset the fragile leadership balance.
Her mother didn't make it. Her father lost his position. By this time, Ildiko was old enough to contribute to the flow of the community and to pull her own weight. But the way she was treated grew increasingly variant: some Zith would hiss when she walked by, while some would continually try to drag her into bed with them.

The conflict grew high, but she stayed because they're the only family she had left. Even if some didn't treat her as family at all...

Recent history
Ildiko's colony travelled north, until they were about a 10 day foot journey from Syrilas. She stayed with her colony until the end of Fall 513, when she had a falling-out with a few of the members that made her want to leave.

Since she wasn't a slave or food, they let her go.

She packed her things and left, headed in the direction of Syrilas.

A ten day journey that would have been relatively easy for a Zith would have turned into a weeks-long survival test, as Fall changed to Winter quicker than she knew it.

She stayed within reach of her colony, far enough for independence, but close enough for protection. A few members volunteered to escort her a half-day away from Syrilas, joking that if she wasn't strong enough to make it to the city from there, she shouldn't have left in the first place.
