This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

When he grabbed her shoulder to stop her, Shayna's training took over and she went limp. She didn't fight him, she didn't jerk away, she didn't even tense up. She simply stopped, her eyes closing just for a tick, it might have been a blink but on a slower scale. Other Dynasty might have taken offense at the bold way she had looked him over, or at the way she had spoken so freely. Of course if he had been a slave she would have been freer still so she supposes it is better that she at least had kept that much propriety about her.

When he speaks she lifts her eyes, though not enough to meet his gaze, instead the green orbs landed around his chin area. "It wasn't proper the way I was carrying on. But thank you for saying so, not many Dynasty would have tolerated such insolence." She gave a soft smile, just a bare upturning of her lips before she turns, "If you will follow me I will lead you to where you were wanting to go." No longer was she quite so curious, quite so eager to talk. Instead she spent her energies in being aware of him, of where he was in relation to her. She used the corners of her eyes to try and ascertain his mood using his facial expression and his body language. Just like she did her Mistress, and others who were prone to expecting certain behaviors from a slave.

He was breathing harder now, his heart thumping heard in his chest with the excitement of the moment, but he scarcely noticed it. All he was aware of was that he felt something akin to overwhelmed, for it took very little to excite him. More than that though, it felt as if he was talking to an entirely different person now, though whether this one was the real one, or artificial it mattered not for either was unsettling. Had she been faking kindness before, or was she faking reverence now?

Moving to step in front of her, he tried to meet her eyes, but disappointingly they linger just barely enough not to do so, though that at least he could understand by his own scars, and sympathetic he thought to connect in that manner but quickly decided to let her speak first. After all, it was him imposing, him pressing too hard maybe.. Her words came as bitter medicine for perhaps this was how it was to be, for she was certainly decided about him, and perhaps he of her. Could it be that he was in the wrong? He curtly shook his head at such thoughts, for being genial could not be a mistake. No, this was all just one big misunderstanding, though all the same he wouldn't press it any further. Nothing good could come from trying to convince her already made up mind.

So with just a slight hesitation, he followed her once more, save for this time silent and free of mirth. At least the silence gave him a bit of time to think things over, but the path they took offered him no peace, only more questions as he realized just how much he didn't understand. Freedom was still so new, and sweet on the tongue… how was he supposed to sort things out. They arrived before he could think any further on the subject, and he focused instead on her once more, curious to see what she would do now that they had arrived, his thoughts far from the bolts of cloth awaiting his appraisal.

She too felt the difference in the atmosphere, but then again she was the one that would be on the receiving end if one of them got irritated at the other. He had not seemed the type to be irritated with the behavior, for he did let her ramble on. However his wasn't the back that would bear new scars, or worse if she made him angry.

She walked smoothly between the people, used to moving around people who either didn't notice her or didn't acknowledge her existence. It bothered her a bit more then it should, this glaring silence. However she was not suppose to judge or question Dynasty. "Here it is M'Lord." She says almost softly, her fingers clasping in front of her. She didn't want to leave it all that, it seemed unfinished. Yet she didn't know what would be said, or welcomed.

She stood still for a chime, sighing after a moment before speaking again, "The things that have been happening, with the death of the slaves and the Radacke lady going missing.. "She shrugged self consciously almost as she spoke, still not quite meeting his eyes. "It has a lot of us slaves worried, particularly as the Dynasty begin to get more ... upset, and paranoid. " It was the closest thing to setting up her request that she was about to ask. If he hadn't seemed as kind to her before then she probably would not be trying to ask. "I am a little frightened to be out here. Not because of the fact that I might be targeted by...them.." Best not to mention the Rujaro, to anyone, that was how she had managed to get pegged for the whipping that scarred her now. "But because some Dynasty members worry that any slave is a potential...one. I am not! Can I stay close to you until you leave please?"

"So it is.." Came his icy reply, though he made no effort to even pretend to look at the wares around him, and instead kept watching, oblivious to the world around him. Try as he might though to keep his face expressionless, his eyes did indeed widen at her admission, and he felt more than a bit guilty for his behavior. He had figured himself beyond the reach of troubles and hand't really thought about how tense things might be right now from her perspective, especially with so many families on edge. Caught in the awkward middle ground as he was, and keeping mostly to himself, he had been sheltered mostly from it, but one could not help but hear the whispers. Perhaps though all it was that she thought him forgotten of his roots.. thought him self absorbed like that pretentious oaf Rowan Morealis. Well then, if it was as he hoped was the case, he would just have to correct that image.

Breathing out the tension that had gathered about his shoulders, cleared his throat before he spoke. "Of course, I could always use a extra set of hands if you don't mind" With that said, he managed a small smile before at last shifting his focus to several colorful bolts of cloth that sat in rows in on a wooden rack.

"You never did tell me your name.." He remarked as he walked to a stand of deep red linen, "after all if we are to remain in each others presence we might as well know something about each other, right?" The fabric's they offered were all deeply colored linens, though the displays differed considerably depending on how much the different merchants wanted to spend. To the one he was now before for instance, bolts of red linen were hung vertically on a well made wooden display that looked like a shelf with wooden hooks protruding from either side, and evenly spaced all the way down it's four foot frame. It was presented so well, perhaps it would look good in his own shop. Coming to a crouch before it, he ran his fingers across the richly hued cloth, pleasantly surprised to find it of decent quality after seeing so much travel, and looking down to his own shirt, he wondered how the red would match what else he had to wear.

Shayna watched him closely, her oddly colored eyes settling on his chin but using her peripheral to gauge his reactions. She tightened her hands in front of her, her knuckles whitening though the rest of her body was held in an easy docile pose. "My name is Shayna M'Lord and I will, of course, help in any way I am able." She agreed easily enough though she did not know much about fabrics and the sort.

"I am Mistress Katherine Morealis' Gardening slave. Ask me things about herbs, or plants and I can answer." Her words are quiet and her tones subdued however she watched him closely as he examined the fabric, red of color. She watched him as he fingered the fabric. "What do you look for when you are .. touching the cloth M'Lord?" She asked curiously. Moving just a little closer in, keeping an eye on the stall keeper so that she could light out of the stall if the keeper had a problem with a slave inside.

The stall keeper watched the two, one brow raised but she doesn't move toward them. She figured that if the man with the unusual mark wanted to buy something or had a question he could come to her, or ask his slave that was hovering around him. She was new to Kenash, not quite understanding what the different brands meant. She did, however, keep a close eye on the slave she didn't want any of her wares damaged or slipped off with.
