Tending to Kenash's ghostly needs

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role playing forum. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

The paraphernalia of spiritism is at its core a rather slim collection. Without even soulmist the spiritist has access to various powers of mediumship. With it, almost all of his powers are accessible, and only some food is required to produce it (other than blood, which a spiritist can always find in himself). A few other odds and ends might aid the spiritist's task, but all in all it could probably be fit in a drawer or two. To more convey the mystery and occultism of his station, Aspahassajiv has cloaked the outside of his office (and some of the interior) in various charms and trinkets that give the impression of myriad arcane purposes. Any seeking the spiritist's help are encouraged to realise that such matters demand great expertise (as is truly the case) and to parcel out proportionate money for such. Some of the beads that drape the exterior are indeed charged with soulmist to resist the entry of ghosts, but Ajiv does not act to update them frequently and his soulmist does not retain its potency overlong at this point.

The front door is curtained with beads, the most likely to be charged with soulmist other than the loop around the bottom floor. The rustling and clinking they give off are provide a transition between the soundscape of the Sun Island and the interior of the office, with sounds from the outside intruding little through the curtain, even when the actual door lies open. Around the perimeter of the office lies the only actual protection against ghosts: a series of pegs through the floor connected by a string of Ajiv's hair. When the pegs have been recently smeared with soulmist (which happens intermittently), the interior of the office is unreachable to ghosts. It is more a precaution in place in case a lengthy project with a powerful ghost leads Ajiv in need of a safe house. The functional furniture includes a large desk, the middle of which is clear of the various occult trappings that litter the many surfaces. It has a large chair on one side, and three smaller chairs on the other. All the chairs are comfortable enough, but are best described as business-like. There is another smaller desk with a small, hard chair near the entrance. This is where Amaury, the clerk slave works, though he is allowed to use the main desk after the office has closed to visitor and then only if Ajiv deems it necessary. A door in the back left corner leads to two further rooms. The first is well organised supply space with the food, weapons and vials of blood and soulmist that are actually necessary to Ajiv's work. Continuing through from that is a sparse room that will serve for evocations the spiritist might need to perform or, at a push, an area to secure ghosts or the possessed.

Moderation Info :
As Ajiv currently owns no PC slaves, shoot me a PM before using the place. We'll either do a thread together or I'll give you permission for self moderation. Not a lot of point to self modding, though, as Ajiv is the whole business and you can't moderate him.

NPCs
Image
Name: Amaury Laurron
Race: Human
DoB: 18th of Winter, 476
PoB: Zeltiva
Title: Clerical Slave
Skills: Organization 65, Mathematics 35, Negotiation 20
Additional Info: Amaury is a pretty man in his mid-twenties. He leverages this to his advantage when he is trying to reach an advantageous compromise between himself (or his master) and another party. It is unclear whether he learnt the skills he currently possesses as a clerk from attending the university at Zeltiva, or merely from his proximity to it in his youth. He handles booking appointments with Ajiv who is not overly prone to waiting around in the office for someone to contact him. He also manages the books and inventory of the office. Somewhat quietly spoken, his greetings to arrivals at Spirits Bound unintentionally add to the mystique of the premises.
Image
Name: Aila
Race: Inarta
DoB: 47th of Autumn, 464
PoB: Windreach
Title: Slave Bodyguard / Mercenary
Skills: Tulwar 70, Brawling 50, Shortbow 30, Unarmed Combat 30, Spiritism 5
Gnosis: Evantia 2
Additional Info: Aila is a middle-aged Inarta and a capable warrior. Ajiv had a significant hand in her training when she was first enslaved. He makes sure to coat her tulwar with soulmist regularly as her main purpose in the business is to aid in the wrangling of ghosts. She has some spiritist training to aid in detecting ghosts and resisting possession, but if the possibility of facing a powerful possessor is on the cards she is far more of a liability than an aid.

Name: Khalta
Race: Eypharian Ghost
DoB: 8th Summer, 357
PoB: Ahnatep
Title: Occasional Secretary
Skills: Materialisation 10, Soulmist Projection 35, Possession 20, Spear 40
Additional Info: A ghost with whom Ajiv is on good terms. In exchange for regular gifts of soulmist, Khalta occasionally deigns to sit behind the large desk and act as the spokesperson for Spirits Bound. She is somewhat haughty to customers, but this combined with her flickering manifestation and exotic appearance adds to the powerful mystique of the business. Or so Ajiv believes.
