Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Favchean looked up at her when she started speaking on the need of the women. The way she said it sounded almost like the Akalak's were just using women, as vessels for children. In some cultures he could see why that would seem like what they were doing but it was really so much more. "Women are vessels of life. They are precious gifts that must be protected and taken care of." Favchean shrugged gently, letting his broad shoulders work up then down in the motion. It was hard to explain to someone who's race had both pieces of the puzzle for procreation.
"Akalak's are an all male race, very rarely when an Akalak and Konti procreate the gods smile on the child and it is an Akontak. They can be both male or female, with the dark skin of the Akalak and the fair hair of the Konti. That is as close to a female Akalak..naturally...made." He didn't mention the poor souls that had got caught up in the Djed storm, and walked out female. Those were..unnatural and strange. He couldn't look at them, no better to stick to finding a woman not of his race.
"You are full of questions for one who guards secrets so dear." He mentioned casually, shifting so that he could lay back, his solid arms raising to cradle his head. "Not that I mind, but generally speaking if you want to hold onto secrets, asking questions is a good way to get them asked back."

Juriya lifted a brow at the Akalak, "I do not think all women need protection." She put an emphasis on need before chuckling softly. "It is not as if we are little glass baubles. I for instance can defend myself." It was interesting to hear his point of view though, and her tone did not indicate she judged him on it, after all, she did not really see herself having children in the future, though until now the thought had not even crossed her mind.
When he began to explain the Konti-Akalak hybrid she could not help but tilt her head slightly. She assumed Konti were the pale girls she saw most often times being escorted around by the Akalak men, but she could not remember seeing a big blue lady with pale hair, Juriya decided she would have to go out more and observe people more in the hopes of seeing one. Would they be delicate and tiny like their mothers, or huge and muscle bound like their fathers?
As Favchean laid back in the grass and spoke of her secret keeping, she held back a snort and shifted to sit closer so she could maintain her locked gaze on his face. She herself did not quite understand the whole 'personal bubble' thing many had, but on more than one occasion she had broken it, apparently. The Kelvic narrowed her eyes slightly and leaned over the much large man on the ground to look more closely at his face before she spoke quietly. "Some secrets are there for a reason... but... I'll answer one question truthfully, just one." She added with a slight smirk. Despite trying to evade questions so vehemently, she was growing fond of Favchean. She was interesting, and speaking to him was not boring, nor hard. Sure, at first it was awkward, but now that they'd been talking for a while, she felt more comfortable. |

Favchean grinned, he had had a little run in with a small Myrian lady who proved that not all women needed protecting. He still thought back to that sparring session with a fond grin, though he had lost it soundly. "No. Not all women need protecting." Favchean turned his head, pale blue eyes raking over the other for a moment before he smiled. "But most women deserve it."
"Females of all races, species and animals, save Zith who have no thought but to be scourge upon the face of Mizahar, create life. For that they should be taken care of and protected with our last breath." He might have sounded as if he were talking flippantly except his voice remained serious and almost a stern quality. As if he was used to the arguments that women could take care of themselves. He didn't mind the thought, it wasn't that he thought them incapable, he just felt that the gods had designed men to be protectors, and women to be nurturers.
When her head popped back into his line sight, blotting out some of the sky above Favchean instincts made him jump to the side, sliding along the prickly grass. He slid back to a seated position, and raised a brow. "Okay. Then my one question would be how old are you. You look like an adult.." He didn't finish, she acted naive and young.

She chuckled at him. He had obviously had this discussion many times with many different people. "Fair enough, so long as you do not try to protect women out of a jaded belief that we are made out of glass and would break if we tripped or anything." While she wasn't exactly amazing in her unarmed combat, she felt she was decent enough that she could, at the very least, get a punch or two in. She was not utterly helpless, besides, there were many warriors who were terrible at hunting and surviving in the wilds. In most cases, she could out hide anyone looking for her unless they had competent skills in hunting and survival.
When he spoke about all women, save Zith, of course, being able to create life she simply watched him and nodded. She supposed that was true, only females could have children. Sure, men were required for the whole child making thing, but, in all honesty, one woman could do what no man ever could. But, she supposed, while pregnant, it would be nice to have a protector. For her kind, at least, if she ever had a child, she would be unable to shift after a point, without risk to the child anyways.
At the question of her age she frowned. That was the one question that could easily unravel her true race. She leaned her head back and looked directly into the sky, a slight frown on her face. She was obviously thinking deeply. After a quiet moment she sighed and hung her head down. "I did promise... I'll be two years old come the Summer." She replied with a slightly disappointed look, like a child who'd been promised a great time, but had been obviously lied to. Finally she flickered her gaze to Favchean and watched him, almost as if waiting for him to start talking to her like she was some lost pet who needed to be leashed and returned home. |

Favchean nods easily, of course women weren't glass baubles. Had he not spent quite a few bells last season teaching women how to defend themselves, mostly in dagger? It didn't mean that the deep seated need to protect would be any less, it just meant that he understood that they didn't need a guard, lock and key to be safe.
He was enjoying the day, lazy though it was and it was not his personality -either his or Chealvan's- to sit around doing nothing but talking. When she finally answered his question, he paused coming to the conclusion that his suspicions had been correct. Kelvic, there was no obvious change though his brow did raise. "What kind are you?" He queried, though she had only promised one answer. "You know you won't be able to make Kuvan as Kelvic.." He said this matter of factly, not in a way that was apologetic but in a way that he thought she would know this already. Cats don't don't own houses, dogs don't own businesses, kelvics aren't granted citizenship.

She was a little surprised at the lack in reaction, though it was a good thing. The last thing she would want would be for her new friend to just shrug her off and act like she was just some stray. Juriya wiggled her foot as she thought about answering his question about what she was, but she figured since the cat was out of the bag why not? Her amber gaze lifted to Favchean and she smirked slightly, "Why don't you guess what I am?" It was not exactly easy, she knew, to guess a Kelvics animal. Sometimes you could tell when one was a bird by the way they behaved and even looked sometimes, but other animals, it might be harder.
At the mention of her not being able to obtain Kuvan she frowned, but seemed to decide against starting an argument. "Figures." Was all she said. Why would a society that treated Kelvics like pets and animals give them citizenship. But then again, women had it, why couldn't she? How was she less useful than a human woman? Sure, she lived not even half as long, but she could still have children, could still fight for the city, and even work. She kept these thoughts to herself though, she figured it was pointless arguing with someone who likely held these views himself. Besides, she liked Favchean, the last thing she wanted to do would be to get into a fight and ruin her chances at a friendship with him, assuming her beign a Kelvic had not already done that. |

The fact that she was kelvic didn't really alter Favchean's view on chatting with her. She was probably not bonded to any particular person, for she was still quite ..chirpy. It has been his experience that unbonded Kelvic remained untrained and flighty until they bonded. Then they began to settle down and become more used to being civilized and not quite so spontaneous ,,though that really wasn't the right word for it. It was almost immaturity, or perhaps it was simply that unbonded kelvics remained untrained.
"That seems to be a fruitless game, considering there are many different animals in the world." Favchean's bass voice grumbled good naturedly, his lips still parted in a friendly grin. "You sit too still to be a bird kelvic..they tend to be ...jumpy even when they look human. Cats tend to be a bit more languid in their human form..hmm.. " Favchean finally took the moment to actually study her, his pale blue eyes sitting quietly on her frame, watching how she held herself. Of course all of his conjectures came from stereotypes of the animals themselves, most of the time kelvics exhibited their animal traits in human form, but that was not always one hundred percent true. "Canines, well they are harder to guess because there's is more personality then physical..and even then there are so many different species of canines. "

Juriya was indeed unbonded, and while she was unsure of how she felt about the concept as of yet, she still felt it was worth taking a chance and meeting others. Maybe she would find a bondmate, but for now, she was content just making friends. And for all she knew, her bondmate would be like a brother or sister rather than something more intimate. It seemed easier to accept that she would simply meet someone and the bond would form into a beautiful friendship, although one never knew how things would turn out.
As he mentioned canines, her smirk seemed to brighten. "Close enough. I'm a wolf." She told him with a nod. "The wild cousin of the dog." She always wondered how she would get along with a dog Kelvic, would they be friends, or would their need to please humanity get on her nerves. True, she was a loyal companion, but you had to earn that loyalty. She did not just roll over and look for tummy rubs from anyone who tossed her a few scraps under the table, no, she demanded respect and expected the same amount of loyalty that she had to give.
"Have you ever seen one before?" She asked, the question having two meaning, one being a Kelvic and the other being a Wolf. While Juriya had originally been very opposed to letting anyone know what she was, more comfortable than she thought with Favchean knowing. He did not seem to treat her very differently than when they had begun chatting earlier. She became more and more confident that he would be a friend, someone she would be comfortable, and even happy, to hang out with every now and then. |

Favchean didn't see her any different, though found it odd that she had tried to keep her Kelvic status a secret. Kelvics were taken care of well in Riverfall, most Akalak's who bond with kelvics tended to pamper and spoil them considerably, at least in Favchean's experience. "Have I seen what? Kelvic or wolf?" He grinned and shifted forward draping his elbows on his knees comfortably. "Riverfall is full of Kelvic. You can't stretch your arm without hitting one it seems."
The green Akalak shrugged, letting the simple leathers of his clothing shift against his skin in the process. "I have several Akalak friends who have Kelvics. Most are birds, but there is a cat here and there. Now wolves, I have met one kelvic wolf before, and he was quite feral. Otherwise the only wolves I have ran into were wild and only out when I was patrolling outside of the gates. Keeping an eye out for Yukmen."
He shifts and stands, tilting his head with a grin. "Have you seen the Menagerie? I haven't been there in quite some time, but you might like it. No Kelvics of course, but there are animals of all types and even a zith or two if you want to look into true evil." His arm extended toward her and he offered her a hand up with a grin.
