Mamoru explores the shady dealings in the night market

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role playing forum. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

Shayna was such a curious girl, and he liked that about her. He knew that type of curious mindset and found himself asking as many questions and seeking as many answers beyond what many would expect. So when it came to her, his loyal pet, he was glad to give her the knowledge. "These I would think, are used for illusions of the sort. Maybe a person wants to trick others into thinking they were gems? Gem are very pricy and not something people toss around for show. Unless they are of the Dynasty." He watched her, saw the look in her eyes as the glass danced in her green eyes. Perhaps if she did well enough he would reward her with a bag for herself.

Mamoru found the girl interesting and he was amused at some of the things that she said. She was confused by what he meant about stories and it told him a bit more about her world and the access that she had before he arrived. "A story is a story, wouldn't you agree? They all tell a tale of something happening, about someone. Made up or not they can be entertaining either way." He smiled again, thinking over the life she must have lived. "If you have no stories then I guess we'll have to create some for you." His expression didn't change this time, nothing to say what his meaning could have been.

He watched her as she bounced on the trampoline and something about it tickled him in all the right places. Maybe it was the look on her face, as if at any moment she expected to fall on her face. Or perhaps it was the way her body moved as she jumped. Or, was it the freedom, the freedom that one got from being air born. Mamoru stood by and watched her and didn't bother to hide it when he licked his lips. There was so much more to her than people gave her credit, and now she was his to use as he saw fit.

The man standing behind the stall was also watching but his expression was hard to read. Stepping forward, Mamoru reached for her and if she would reach back, he would literally pluck her out of the air and pull her into his arms, not bashful at all to let her slid down his body to stand on her own two feet. "How was it? Enjoyable? The feeling of flying does have that effect." He'd listen to her thoughts, though he was already thinking of buying one for their home. Suddenly his eyes darted to her right as he saw the same man standing around looking suspicious. It was bold even, the way he looked around to see if any eyes were on him, before he slipped into one of the dark alleys. "Come alone Shayna..things just got interesting."

Shayna thought it odd that people would want to try and trick people into believing that these were real gems because they seemed pretty enough to her. His comments on stories made sense, and when he held his hands out to her she obediently reached for him trusting him as he plucked her close, off the strange contraption called a trampoline. Her arms fell around his neck as he lowered her and she didn't try to hide the bright smile on her face before she remembered where she was - or perhaps what she was- and ducked her head. "Yes M'Lord it was very fun indeed. I have never seen one of those let alone used one." She couldn't think of a useful use of for it, other then just having fun. She was completely unaware of any enjoyment her master gained from watching her, but she had to try and calm her heart from the exhilaration.

"I have stories, I mean I remember events and things that have happened to me of course. I just don't know if they are that entertaining." She said, bewildered that anyone would think that anything in her life was interesting. Of course since she had been purchased by Mamoru things had gotten far more interesting of late.

Her eyes follow where her master was looking, and her lip was caught between her teeth but she followed him. "Careful M'Lord." She whispered, not because she did not think he could take care of himself -and her- he had proven he could, but simply to caution. His wounded shoulder and scalp from the tussle at his cottage proved he was not invincible.

"It's not something that's used often. I've only seen it in one play. It was a comedy, and I'm really surprised to see one here." Mamoru was glad to see her having fun, and the fact that she seemed interested in the entertainment gear as he was, made him smile. The trickster enjoyed his own sense of humor, even when others didn't. So for Shayna to also enjoy it gave him a bit of joy. When she fell into his arms that moment ago, he saw the look in her eyes, and if not for their company he would have kissed her. "If you liked it so much, maybe I will get one for the cottage."

The stall owner stepped closer, moved the trampoline backwards and turned it on it's side. Apparently he didn't want anyone jumping on it. Mamoru didn't bother to check what he was up to and instead focused on the teen in his arms. "Ah, so you do have stories. You'll have to tell me about them one day soon."

The moment was over soon, and the trickster was off to follow the proud stranger. He moved closer to the alley, but didn't go in right away. He too looked around to see if anyone was watching him before he entered the alley with Shayna behind him. Mamoru took careful steps, lightly stepping on his toes to make the sound of his boots less noisy. It wasn't far into the alley that he started to hear voices. A conversation going on between the man he had followed inside and another.

"Now you listen to me. I have the coin, I've got plenty of it. I just need you to find out where they are keeping her, that's all." His voice was easy to understand and he spoke plainly as well. The second voice spoke up, and he spoke more like the woman from the silk stall. "I can't help ya. Sorry, but you ain't got enough coin to offer. Nuthin is worth going against that family." They heard foot steps next, and the voice of the clearer speaking man calling for the other to come back. "Don't you have a heart man? It's my kid, my daughter!" No matter how much the man pleaded the foot steps continued to move away from him and closer to Mamoru and Shayna.

When he realized that one of them were coming his way, Mamoru pulled Shayna into his arms pressing his body against her and her back against the wall. Leaning in, he pressed his lips against hers and lifted her off the ground, holding their kiss. Soon the footsteps were upon them, and they slowed for a moment just enough to watch Mamoru shift his way between the teen slave's legs before they shuffled off and into the night. Breaking the kiss, he turned towards the exit but the man was already gone, and he wondered if Shayna had saw what he looked like. "Did you get a look at him?"

Suddenly, he started to shift both their bodies closer to the corner where the stranger was still waiting. Looking back to his pet, Mamoru lowered her to the ground and whispered into her ear. "Watch the exit and alert me if anyone else comes in." He gave her another bump to her chin and slowly made his way around the corner to meet with the troubled stranger.

Dealings In The Night

Shayna was not trained in stealth and subterfuge, however a slave is often expected to be seen but not heard..and sometimes not even seen. Most life long slaves learn the art of slipping along corridors, or down rows of plants without making a fuss. Dynasties like their comforts but rarely want to be disturbed by the slaves. So as Mamoru slipped through the alley quietly, Shayna followed lightly. She stopped close to her master when she heard the voices, her hand raising to rest lightly on his back, mostly just to have the contact with him. He had responded well when she had brushed his hand without permission, and the dark alley was a little more cramped then she liked not to mention they were following a strange man so the contact with him helped ease her pounding heart.

That was why Shayna had a little heads up that Mamoru was moving, when he turned and trapped her between the wall and him -both being impeccably strong and unyielding- she was able to contain the cry that bubbled from her lips. Muffled against his, her arms twined around his neck and when she felt her feet leave the ground she wrapped her legs around his waist tightly. Her lips returned his kiss, though her eyes remained wide open for all the world to see focusing on her master's face, her attention was divided. One part of her was registering his lips on hers, his body between her thighs, the tremble in her body as it began to react, the other was watching the man walking away. It was dark, her eyes were no better then any other human's but she saw how he walked, she saw what he was wearing.

She inhaled softly when he broke the kiss, her lips close to his ear so that when she whispered she did not have to raise her voice. "Older then me, he walked with an weird gait, not a limp but not a normal walk. I think his hair was dark, but it is dark in this alley I couldn't make out the exact color M'Lord." She unlocked her legs from around his waist, so that when he let her down, her feet caught her weight and she only looked a little disheveled. When he ordered her to watch the exit she wanted to ask to be allowed to go with him, but she didn't. "Of course M'Lord." was her standard response to orders. She moved back up toward the Alley, only so that if someone turned down it she would be able to move back toward the corner easily and naturally.

She watched the exit, she wasn't sure how many chimes she stood against the wall, not letting her eyes falter once from the Alley exit. Occasionally there would be a moment that there was someone turning down the alley but instead moved on but otherwise there wasn't anything to declare for a long while. However what felt like bells, though probably was only chimes a man turned down the Alley. He didn't look like he was lost, but he also didn't look like he was looking for something in particular either. Shayna bit her lip and started to move toward the corner to let her master know, but thought that the other man might not realize she was out here and with Mamoru. So she improvised.

"Master!" She cried out loudly, hoping that Mamoru would recognize her voice, but also recognize she was not speaking to him. For she didn't call him Master. As she said this she stepped in front of the man, and tipped her face up to allow her brand to be clearly visible. "Oh forgive me M'Lord.. I thought you were someone else." She knew her master was smart, and hoped he would be properly forewarned..and perhaps this man was just ducking in for a private meeting with a lady and will just move on when he realizes the alley is not deserted.

With Shayna watching the exit, Mamoru peeked around the corner to look at the man. He was pacing back and forth, talking to himself and cursing under his breath. The long coat that he wore billowed behind him and also showed more of the style of clothing he wore beneath. It wasn't something the locals wore, but the materials were good quality. He seemed enraged, not at all like the cool and calm demeanor that he had moments ago.

"I don't care what it takes..somehow I'll get in there and I'll find out where they're keeping my girl and somehow..I'll get her out of there."

Then he said the name.. "I knew I shouldn't have trusted anyone under Mica."

Mamoru's eyes widen and he stepped around the corner and lightly clapped his hands together. He wore the hood of his robes over his head, the dim lighting in the ally concealing his features. "You must be a brave man to go after that family...Or stupid. " he cackled softly and settled against the wall where he could keep an eye on the man if he decided to attack.

"I don't like ease-droppers, they tend to go missing quickly when I'm around. What do you want, huh? You working for Radacke? Or are you just another no good freeborn like the other one?" He stared at Mamoru, eyes unmoving, but he didn't try and get a closer look at him. This man knew the city and how it operated well enough not to charge in unarmed. "You just going to stand there looking all mysterious or you going to say something?"

The trickster cackled again and waved his hand up."Me work for Dynasty? Not at all, I'm just a simple man looking to make roots in a new city. I'm not the type for the flair and dramatic, but I am good at finding things others would want to keep hidden." The Dhani flashed the man a smile, one that probably seemed more creepy than not in the current light.

"Making roots in a new city? That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard, and what's with the outfit?" he was angry and Mamoru wasn't helping to calm the man. However, he didn't lash out at the man's words and laughed instead. "Aren't we full of compliments, and here I thought you were in need of help. Guess I was wrong if you're making jokes." Smiling, he stepped off the wall and turned to leave.

"Wait.." the man called back and Mamoru paused, the same smirk written across his face. He turned back slowly, yellow green eyes looking into the human's soul. He took two steps closer, but said nothing putting it all on the man to restart the conversation. "Are you really good at finding things, people?" He waited for an answer, but the trickster only smiled in return. "Well forgive me if I'm not sold. I'm don't know a thing about you. But.." he paused and took a few steps closer.

"I wonder how good you are at putting things in places? Here's the deal, there's a man here named Horthal that sells clothes, jewelry anything that he can steal. He should be easy to spot with that bright red hair of his." Pausing again, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a necklace and gave it to Mamoru. "Place this with his wares, just don't let him see what you're doing. If you can do that and return here, I'll know I can trust you and I'll tell you everything that you need to know, and the pay will be worth it."

It was an interesting job, and the man was smart enough to keep his secrets until he knew that Mamoru could be trusted to help him. The trickster gave him credit there and took the necklace. Suddenly, he heard Shayna's voice, yelling about a master. It was odd to hear, and he had never told her to call him that. It also wasn't like her to yell so loudly. Something was up.. "Don't go anywhere, this won't take long." the Dhani said, almost in a threatening tone. He slipped back into the shadows then, and returned to find Shayna standing alone. He called for her, extending his arms for her to come in close so that they might speak without others hearing. "What happened? Did someone follow us in?"

He waited for her answer, one arm around her body to appear as if they were being intimate instead of what they were really doing. "It seems we have a need to find a stall that sells clothing and jewelry. There should be a man with bright red hair attending the stall." He lifted the necklace between them, high enough that Shayna could see it. "We're going to give him this..without telling him."

The man stopped short when Shayna stepped in his way and appeared to confuse him with someone else. He had slipped down this alley to see if he could find someone to sport with, but this slip of a slave impeded his progress. His clothing was rumpled, and looked like they could use a good washing, for that matter he smelled a bit too much like stagnant water to have had a proper bath in a few days. His teeth were rotting, but he possessed something Shayna did not. A freeborn brand, still newly healed, on his right hand.

"Your one of those slaves now aren't you?" He asked, his words precise and surprisingly educated sounding coming from someone with such appearance. Enough to make Shayna's eyebrows raise though she kept her gaze directed toward his collar rather then his eyes. She didn't answer, except to lift her chin in case he didn't see the brand when she first tried to reveal it. His hand raised to trace the brand edges before he returned his hand to his own person.

Shayna stood still, and to her credit managed to not wrinkle her nose when he touched her though she did turn her head to look back down the alley, unable to help herself. He grinned in any account, he knew what he looked and smelled like and it didn't bother him. He wouldn't find his sport in this alley it didn't seem for he had noted that she looked over her shoulder once and deduced that whoever she was looking out for was back that way. He didn't want to mess too much with someone who afforded slaves and dealt in dark alleys. "Perhaps I will be seeing you." He said, grinning again before turning on his heel and heading back out of the alley.

Shayna felt that it was an encounter at the very least, and as her master does turn the corner she smiled with a little relief. The man hadn't accosted her, or molested her in any fashion, it just was weird and left her with a funny feeling. Mamoru did not have to beckon twice for her to come, and she eagerly slipped against him into his embrace. "It was nothing M'Lord. Just someone who was coming, I just didn't want to alert your.. friend that I was here if he did not already know." She reached a hand up and wiped at the brand on her neck, as if there was grime left by the man's touch. There might have been as filthy as he had looked.

"He left after I stepped in front of him." Together then moved out of the Alley, and while they weren't arm in arm, Shayna walked a little closer to her master then she had before they went into the alley.

"Why are we .. secretly giving something to someone M'Lord?" She asked in a low voice, finding it very odd. If they needed to give something to someone, wouldn't they be happy to be given something? Unless, of course, she supposed her master was making a euphemism on doing some kind of harm to the man. She shivered but before too long she noticed a stall with various brick-a-bract and baubles. The stall owner was a red headed man, who stood out even without trying. There were no customers right now to distract him, and he sat toying with something shiny in his hand but Shayna could not tell what.

Mamoru held Shayna close, arm around her and hand caressing her buttocks. She was such a good slave, and she was starting to act without him having to tell her exactly what to do. It may have seemed like small things, but going by what he would ask, most wouldn't expect that of a simple garden slave. His hand stroked her rear just a little more and he placed his lips to her forehead and applied a kiss. Another praise for the teen slave, something he was sure that most other slaves didn't receive nearly as much. "I see you got rid of him, Good. We have work to do."

He noticed how she touched her brand, but didn't know the reason behind it. He imagined that it might have bothered her, for the purpose of appearances. Shayna was the perfect slave, and if he'd ever had her do anything that she didn't like, the girl was very good at hiding it. But there was something in their budding relationship that told him that she enjoyed being his, and that had him wondering if she didn't think herself pretty with the mark on her cheek. His hand raised and touched her her skin there and he smiled, but the time for petting and praising was over.

The trickster moved at a somewhat quick pace, his legs shuffling under his raven colored robes. He wasn't in a rush, but it was obvious that he had somewhere he needed to be and window shopping was out. "Our new friend wants this placed under the care of that merchant without him knowing. My guess is that he is looking to use that to his advantage. The how I'm unsure of at the moment. But that's not even his real problem. It would seem that the Radackes has something that belongs to him and he wants help getting it back. I don't know the whole story yet, but once we help him here, I'm sure he won't be as tight lipped."

They continued on their search, and while they walked he thought up the best way to handle it. He had already placed the necklace in Shayna's care so the guy wouldn't know that he had it first. The trick was to get it on his table without him knowing it was added. The alley man was sure to go and check when he was ready to do whatever he had planned, and the necklace needed to still be there when he did. He thought it over longer, the idea of some form of distraction came to mind before they spotted the bright red hair of the man at the stall.

"Ah, there he is..." Mamoru gave Shayna a glance and moved in front of the stall. The man was toying with something silver, but it was hard to see what and the moment they got closer he put it away. Mamoru smiled and drew back his hood so that he appeared less threatening. He made note of the man's strange behavior but at the moment he had a job to do. "Hello there, I'm in the market for something..exotic for my girl here. Something that you wouldn't find on just any slave." A hand wrapped around Shayan's and he lifted her arm to spin her around so that the man could see her slender curves. "Get ready.." he quickly whispered to his pet.

Mamoru stepped to the very right side of the stall and browsed the table there with fabrics and clothes items on it. He had an idea to get the man's attention and hoped it would be enough to give Shayna the chance to slip the necklace into the jewelry on the other table. He found a gown, that looked pretty enough and pretended to like it. "Now this I like but..wait. What is this?" The trickster went to work here, his gnosis tingling on his shoulder as he placed an illusion of a stain on the garment. It was an easy trick and since it didn't have a different texture than the cloth itself, even touching it wouldn't matter. He held the cloth up for the man to inspect, who snatched it quickly to look over. Now was Shayna's chance.

The memory of his hand caressing her rump kept her warm for the walk through the midnight market, the press of his lips against her head and the praise gave her a giddy feeling in her stomach. Shayna didn't think she could ever describe the thrill of obedience, that was heightened by the knowledge that one's master rewards their slaves for said obedience. That was the whole of her ambitions, to further her master's agenda, and reap the rewards that he gives. Helping her master rise in power, political or otherwise, would mean nothing without that praise and rewards.

So when they reached the stall that the and he began to converse with the shop keeper Shayna had the necklace buried in her palm. When he lifted her hand and twirled her, her black hair fanning out she did not have to fake the smile that lifted her lips. Slightly disoriented from the spin it took her a tick to re-orientate her self as she watched for her opening.

The red headed shop keep pulled the dress from the man with the slave with a growl. No way could a stain have gotten on one of these, "These were just delivered, and I checked them myself!" He exclaimed, bent over the dress, his finger trying to scrape at the stain to see if it was just dirty or really set in. Shayna didn't even have time to move when he looked directly at Mamoru, "Tell your slave to quit eying the merchandise. She gets her grubby hands on anything, I will be expecting payment from you."

Shayna's eyes went to Mamoru, she hadn't moved or even tried to inch forward and the man was already suspicious of her. Of course many just assume slaves were too stupid to be loyal or faithful, to realize that if they were caught their master would have to compensate. Shayna had never stolen more then perhaps an extra piece of bread in her life. She had to push back the offended feeling, reminding herself that it was a common assumption about slaves.

She ducked her submissively, trying to look docile and trying hard to keep the mild offense from her face. Offense reads so much like anger that it would not be a good thing to display. She waited, watched, knowing that her master would do something to divert attention back to him, though the red headed man never once looked at her. She wanted to make sure that he wasn't watching her some how, just the simple accusation had her worried that he was able to see. Even though it was most likely just that he didn't trust slaves in general.

A few chimes go by and Shayna finally moves forward, moving around the stall the long way as if she was just moving toward her master. Without a glance toward the red head she moved her hand near the stall and let go of the necklace on the move. She doesn't stop, she rounds the stall corner to stand beside her.

Mamoru chuckled softly at the man's words when he started to take his frustrations out on Shayna for the ruined, or rather the dress he thought was ruined. The Trickster had placed a well colored shade upon the cloth, a dull brown that would appear as if the stain had set bells ago. "Is there something wrong sir? You couldn't be serious? You're the one trying to sell the good people of Kenash dirty clothing, and you're going to blame that on my slave? She hasn't touched anything..she knows better. Isn't that right my pet?"

He noticed her hesitation and with the man eying her, it would be hard for her to sneak the item onto the table. It was time for another distraction and this time, it didn't take him a tick to think of it. Mamoru lifted his voice and started to speak louder as he folded his arms across his chest, one hand lifting to rub his chin. "Wait a tick..That hair, that red hair. You're Horthal, aren't you? I've heard about you, you're the seedy merchant that will do anything for a sale. Why, I heard that you even rob graves to steal their valuables and sell them. Is that what this is?"

The trickster forced a serious look upon his face and continued loudly. "Is that stain dirt, from the grounds were someone had been buried? You disgust me." Horthal was beside himself, and his face was almost as red as his hair. There were people all around the market and plenty were close enough to hear Mamoru and the gossip he spilled. "Shut up you fool! What are you trying to pull? My wares are all good and new items. I don't need to sink to that level. Don't you go starting rumors and lies!"

Mamoru smiled then, his yellow-green eyes flaring with mischief. "You're the fool. Did you really think that you could disrespect me and get away with it? No slave of mine steps out of line and I won't take insolence from people like you either." By this time Shayna had quickly hid behind him, he slipped his hands behind his back, palms turned up and fingers waving her to come closer. He figured if she still had the item that she would place it into his hands, and if not, she would place her own hands into his instead. "You're a depraved man Horthal, and a sad excuse for a merchant. I no longer wish to shop here. Good day to you."

With that Mamoru turned and headed off in the direction that he had came. Horthal glared at him for a moment then quickly turned to those looking at him and tried his best to dispel the rumor and explain away the stain on the dress. The trickster slowed his walk, making sure that Shayna was with him and spoke to her with a hushed tone. "You did well my dear. I don't think Horthal's luck is about to get any better, but that's no my problem.. Now then, let's go and see what our alley friend wants."

They returned to the alley, and this time he had Shayna wait closer by the corner, rather than the alley entrance. That way she was closer to him, if she needed to get his attention. Mamoru moved back around the corner to find the man sitting on a chair with his arms folded and one leg half crossed the other. It was odd, he was sure the chair wasn't there the first time he came through. "It is done." the trickster said simply. The man nodded and stood up from his chair. He appeared just as he had before, not the last time that Mamoru saw him, but from the first time that he did. "I know, I saw your work."

Mamoru arched a brow, and the man did so in return. "What? You thought I was just going to take your word for it? Come on, but a word of advice. Your little friend, next time she might want to try and be a bit more subtle. Lucky for us no one would suspect a thief would ever put anything back. Name's Berk by the way." He almost smiled as he reached a hand out for Mamoru to shake.

"I see, well can't blame you for wanting to be certain. As for my girl, she's a bit new to this all, but she learns very quickly. Now, you mind telling me why you're giving a man a free necklace?" The trickster had his own ideas as to the why, but he didn't want to make any assumptions. "Fine, I'll tell you. That Horthal is a sleaze, been swindling people s in Kenash for years. Well he owes me a favor, at least he will when I threaten to alert the authority that he's been stealing his wares from others. That was a pretty interesting rumor you started there. Think I'll use it to further my own cause."

Mamoru smiled and folded his arms, looking down on the man even though they were the same height and about the same size. "Smart man, I can see how that could be useful. Now that I've proven myself, shall we get to business then?" The Dhani wasn't stupid and he noticed how the man didn't exactly answer his question, but after communicating with him, he realized that this wasn't some small time crook. This ma was smart and Mamoru was curious what he was up too. He could find out what the stall theft and replace was about if he wanted to, but he was more interested in what came next.

Berk nodded his head and got right to the point, he saw now that he could trust Mamoru and that he wasn't a dynasty spy or freeborn undercover. "Alright, let me tell you a story. A man comes to town a few years ago looking to make a name for himself. He had a very unique type of tobacco to sell. Something from over seas. But he doesn't have the finances to move the product. So he goes into business with one of the families, promises of equal shares, well mostly equal. But the deal tanks, the tobacco is no good and then he owed the family a lot of money. So the guy went to work, did everything he could to earn the money but..it wasn't enough. So to settle the rest of the payment, they took his daughter...his only child. Told the guy that once he pays them back the rest of the money he could see her again."

Guy leaves, comes back a year or so later with the coin to pay off the debt, but now, the family is asking for triple the amount of coin. Saying the girl was now more valuable. The thing is, they wouldn't even let him see her, so who's to say the girl is even still there? That's where you come in. I need you to find out if this girl is still on their property. That's all, I'll handle the rest. I offered the other guy six gold coins to do it, but I'll pay you double if you can get me that information.? Her name is...was Selena. Blue eyes, dark hair. She would be around seventeen by now. I can't imagine what they would have her doing, but check everything and everywhere."

Mamoru had been listening to the man's story and it wasn't hard to see who he was talking about. Another ambitious freeborn coming to Kenash, the trickster could see now why the man scoffed before when he mentioned his own intentions. "You're playing a dangerous game here friend, but I'll look into this for you. Find me again tomorrow just as the sun is about to set..I'll meet you at Reed Park and tell you what you want to know." Without another word, he slipped back into the shadows and rounded the corner to find Shayna. "Come Shayna, we have more work to do."

Once positioned behind him, Shayna saw his wiggled fingers and hesitated a tick for a moment wondering if she was not suppose to go ahead and dump the necklace. Worry that she had messed up bloomed in her mind, but she slipped her empty palm into his, enjoying for a moment the strength in his hand. She knew he was putting on a show for the other, she knew that he was simply creating a distraction so that she could do his bidding, but it soothed her offense to hear her master defend her. She was a good slave.

Moving back through the market, Shayna's mind was working hard to memorize details, to watch where each stall was located and the general things that the stalls sold. Of course it was far too much for her to memorize in entirety, she was no whiz at mental recollection but she felt confident that she would be able to remember very general details should she need to later on down the road.

She remains quiet, unusually silencing her questions only because she had so many she didn't quite know where to begin. Positioned closer to the corner she could hear her master's conversation with the other fellow, and her face burned gently at the rebuke of her stealth skills. She had been working on instinct and apparently it did not go as well as she had hoped. Then again what did she expect, she knew nothing about this cloak and dagger business.

The details of what the man wanted raised her brows, certainly anyone taken in by a family better have had their freeborn papers in order. Otherwise more often then not they would have been branded with the slaves mark. Perhaps though since this girl was suppose to be used as a bargaining chip the family hadn't done something so drastic. What if they had? Would the man demand that her master steal a slave? That thought filled her with fear, hoping her master wouldn't want to do something so dangerous.

When he rounded the corner and ordered her to come she fell into step with him easily once more, waiting until they cleared the alley before she spoke in soft tones, all the while she watched the ground as they walked. "If his daughter didn't have her freeborn paperwork on her M'Lord it is likely she is working as a slave. " Kenash was not a place you wanted to be lax about following their city guidelines, for Kenashern had no problems taking anyone who falls out of line and making a slave of them. Some people adored collecting slaves that were not born slaves.

"What will he do with the knowledge that this girl is a slave? Would he let it lie? Or would he expect you to steal this slave?"
