• Character Concept

Personality – Church is a generally likeable fellow. He’s still fairly new to traveling around the world and is still learning his place in the land. Though being out in the wild after a few years has hardened his heart and will. He is still a gentle person, and has no problem helping out a stranger or a friend in need when the moment arises. Because of an incident in his childhood, he if fueled by a strong urge to better himself mentally, physically, and emotionally everyday so he can protect those around him and not let something happen to those whom he cares about. Though he holds a dark secret to his past. Even though in his heart he’s filled with the right ideals and motives. His anger at himself for allowing his father to die and his mother and sister to be taken has been a personal battle of demons for him. It’s left him feeling hollow and without a purpose. He hopes to fill these holes when he completes his quest of vengeance against the Zith.

Ethics – Church will only fight when necessary. He doesn’t like to start fights but will protect himself when the need is there. He will fight for the weak and protect them as well. Even if it is against the established order of the land. His sense of justice and doing what’s right for others is extremely strong. He won’t ever be swayed of it and is willing to fight against evil whenever the chance arises.

Likes – He likes to fish, ride horses, and enjoys a good pub every now and again. He enjoys to train in fighting hand to hand in his spare time to keep his skills up to date. Also, because of his childhood, he holds the Chaktawe and the Akalak to a high regard because of his father’s teachings about them. As in his teenage years they taught him the same skills they taught his father and mother. They are like a second family to him now while he searches for his own.

Dislikes – He hates seeing others hurt for someone’s own personal gain. He doesn’t like the Zith, because one of their hunters killed his father and took his mother and sister in for slavery.

• Character History

Pre-Creation – Church Hanrahan was born within the region of Sylira, in the city of Zeltiva. His parents, Rylan and Bliss Hanrahan, were a part of the university within Zeltiva and were always sent on assignments to help study the other cultures on Mizahar. During his childhood Church was used to traveling a lot and actually enjoyed it. It allowed a lot of time for his father, Rylan, to teach him about many different cultures and the ways of the world. Also it let him teach Church many techniques for surviving outdoors. Which his father and mother learned from the Tastuwaat tribe of the Chaktawe. When his parents were studying the Tastuwaat tribe, the Wayhali or chieftan, allowed his parents to travel with them and study their ways. Even though Rylan and Bliss didn’t possess any of the special “gifts” the Chaktawe did, the freckled like dots on their fingertips which were used to sense the air movement around them, Church’s parents studied how they hunted and tracked and started to develop their own tracking skills through more traditional methods by looking for signs along the ground which the Chaktawe also use in combination with their extra sensory gifts. They taught his parents everything that they knew. Which in turn Rylan had passed on to Church throughout his childhood. Also within his parents’ travels, they journeyed to the Akalak city of Riverfall. This is where Rylan, in order to accurately portray the Akalak in his writings, participated in their customs of unarmed combat and were taught the techniques the Akalak use in combat against foes. Because of the trials Rylan put himself through, the Akalak gave him a replica Laken, as a token of them accepting him as an honorary member of the Akalak. These skills Rylan passed down to Church, and one day Rylan even planned on taking Church there as so he could let Church improve in his martial combat skills with one of the Akalak children. That is until one night they were traveling back to Zeltiva from Riverfall. Church was about 10 at the time, it was getting dark out and his father had built a fire for Church and his sister Serenity. The two of them were drawing in the dirt around the fire while Rylan and Bliss were cuddled up on a log watching the children and enjoying the evening. As the night was winding down and the fire was dwindling, Rylan was enchanting Church and Serenity with stories about the many places he’s been on their travels and the different cultures he’s encountered and studied. That’s when he caught something fly past. Rylan quickly jumped up and told Bliss to grab the kids and get his sword. She tossed his sword to him and then grabbed Church and Serenity and made for the horses. Rylan quickly fought off one attacker. Not sure what he was fighting he picked up a flaming stick and waved it around. Just as his attacker tried to swoop back in the flames startled it and it flew back. It was the Zith. Rylan thought to himself that he must of gotten his bearing mixed up and traveled too close to their capitol city of Castle Xy. He heard the stories of some researchers getting too close to the castle and barely coming out with their lives. Rylan the watched as the Zith landed on the ground and shrieked at him. That’s when he heard a thump from behind him, another Zith had landed behind him, then another one to his left. He knew just then what was happening. This wasn’t some random hunting party, they were slavers. He wasn’t going to let them get his family. That’s when Church and Serenity got on their horse while Bliss got on her’s and they rode off leaving Rylan’s behind. It was the last time Church saw his father. The last thing he heard was the cry of his father dieing from the attack. That’s when Church heard the Zith shriek and whoosh up from the trees behind them. He noticed they took to the sky and were heading towards them. His mother shouted to head into the woods in hopes of losing the Zith inside. Just as they get ready to enter, Church turns around in time to see the Zith swoop down and capture his mother. He notices the Zith who captured her just flies away and doesn’t attempt to do anything. Church then pushes his horse harder as to put as much distance between him and the Zith still chasing. He tells his sister to take the reins. He then switches her places and pulls out his bow. His eyes were always better at night for some reason. He couldn’t explain why. He tries to focus and take a shot at the Zith chasing but their swaying and diving patterns were throwing off his shots. He decides he has no shot and tells Serenity to head for the opening up ahead. He knew from his Akalak training his father taught him to think ahead and put himself in the mind of his attacker. To anticipate their movements before they even know they’ll make them. His plan was to wait until the Zith dove down in on them to pick one of them up. Which then he’ll already have an arrowed knocked, he is then going to quickly pull up and fire at the Zith in hopes of taking it down momentarily, long enough to pull away and find cover for the night. They approached the opening, his arrow was ready. He turned and looked up to see the Zith coming down. The moons light helped his vision a good bit. He waited. He wanted to make sure his shot hit its mark. He could feel his heart beat practically through his chest with fear and anticipation. He breathed deeply, stared sternly, concentrated. He had to make the shot count. That’s when he looked back up and he knew it was time. In a split second he pulled up his bow and let the arrow fly. It penetrated the shoulder of the Zith which sent is spiraling back into the sky and hit the ground. Church shouted in triumph! He turned and smiled back at Serenity and she smiled back. That’s when what Church tried so hard to prevent happened. He didn’t notice the other Zith flying low beside the one he shot. Before he could even turn to face it, the Zith flew in and took the horse off its feet. Church flew through the air and he grabbed Serenity. They fell against the ground and it took the breathe from his chest. He told Serenity to hide, but it was too late. The Zith had Serenity by the hair and off the ground. He spoke in a deep rumble to Church and told him that his mother and sister will enjoy their new lives as his slaves. Church asked for his name, to which the Zith replied there was no sense in knowing his name as his life will soon end. But just for one last request his spoke his name to him. “My name, is Dis Pater.” After which he handed Serenity to the other Zith who was present with another who carried Church’s mother. “Now, I will make this as painless as possible for you little one. As you have shown great courage.” Dis Pater picked up Church, and drove his finger deep into his shoulder. As at the tip of his fingers were sharpened claws for such need to kill when he chose to kill. Church screamed in agony and then was thrown aside, left for dead. Church awoke the next morning in care of the Akalak. They nursed Church back to health. He trained for the next few years there in martial arts and sword fighting. He also learned how to become one with himself, and center his mind as to heighten his awareness in combat, which in turn helped tune in his eyesight at night. This allows him to see further at night and in more detail. After his training there he packed up his belongings and headed out in search of more knowledge. He knew if he were to have any luck tracking down the Zith and planning on getting his mother and sister back he had to visit the Chaktawe tribe his father once stayed with and studied. He traveled to the city of Ahnatep. He asked the local Benshira about the Wayhali Shanataypak of the Tatsuwaat tribe. They pointed him towards the outskirts of Eloab. He tried his best to track them down but his skills weren’t like his father’s. He wandered for days and was running out of water and food. Upon exhaustion and death, he noticed something in the distance. It was a Chaktawe tribe member racing towards him, his spear in hand. When he got close to Church, Church reached out for the tribesman and passed out from the heat. The Chaktawe carried Church back to the encampment and Church was giving water and food and told to rest up. The next morning he found out that the group of Chaktawe he was with were the descendents of Shanataypak. The Wayhali of this tribe, Shanajitak, was his son. Church explained to him the history between their fathers, and how Shanataypak taught his dad Rylan how to track and hunt as they did. Shanajitak wasn’t too sure about Church story and so they traveled to where Shanataypak was. Shanajitak told his father what Church had explained to him and how he taught Church’s father their culture, ways of life, and skills. Shanataypak was much relieved to learn his old friend had finally had a family. That’s when Church told him about that night 5 years ago when his father fell fighting the Zith and how he couldn’t protect his mother or sister. Shanataypak then told Church his is now a Tatsuwaat tribe member like his father was, and that he shall learn everything they know about the ways of the world, hunting, and tracking in order to fulfill his quest. Church spent the next 6 years with the Tatsuwaat tribe and Shanajitak. The two of them become close friends in their time. Often sharing stories from their youth, singing songs, and hunting together. They had grown into brothers. When it was time for Church to go, Shanajitak gave him something. “Church, please take this, it has served me well in the past. And it is only right you take it along with you on your journey.” “But, Tak, this is your father’s bow and spear, I can’t accept this. It should stay within the tribe.” “Church, you are a part of this tribe, we are brothers, and this was our father’s. It should go with you.” “Tak, I don’t know what to say, thank you brother.” They both placed a hand on each other’s shoulder. Church said his goodbyes and then got on his horse. With one final look at Tak, Tak nodded his head. Church knew what he had to do and this is what must be done. Not for revenge, but for vengeance. Church road for 3 weeks north back to his hometown, his place of birth, Zeltiva. It’s here that he’ll start his search for Dis Pater and get his family back.
