One face among many, one body amidst the masses. Blending, moving about unnoticed. That's where he was at home. Those who did take note of the slightly hunched figure, however, would only remember a slightly worn brown coat, hood pulled over his face, hands pushed deeply into his pockets, revealing nothing to the world and daring those too curious for their own good to try and approach him. Those who did peek under his cowl would see his dark blue eyes, a common trademark among the Svefra. They would lack the spark of humor that most Svefra had, but instead, a fire burned in their depths that caused most to hesitate before speaking. Upon further inspection, sandy brown hair reached his brow and a five o'clock shadow covered his jaw. Nothing unique set him apart, yet everyone who saw him would leave with an uneasy feeling that they couldn't quite explain.

Character Concept

Some say, Tyrek Velkor died when his pod did. The cheerful, mischievous attitude that is so common among the Svefra was all but gone from his demeanor. Five years had gone by since that fateful day and the past still haunted him. Reoccurring nightmares plagued his sleep. He was often judged as being broody and pensive, closed off from the rest of the world. But inside, he was in turmoil with himself. His nature was to be one with the water. He was Svefra after all. But even the mere thought of water brought the flashbacks. It was enough to paralysis him. Pictures of bloated corpses that were once his family filled his mind, memories of the claws holding him under, water flooding his lungs, the sense of helplessness and fear were enough to hesitate before entering the water. Over the years, he managed to repress the flashbacks but they came when he least expected it. The flashbacks only reminded him, daily, of the hatred he had for the Zith. It didn't matter if they were the ones who killed his pod or not, they would all pay.

Character History

As a young boy, Tyrek Nautilus lived a luxurious life among his pod, skirting along the coast of northern Syliras. The palivar that was called home to the adolescent was a constant bustle of activity. Sounds of laughter floated across the waves as children wrestled with one another, swam with the sea life, and lounged about the decks of the ship. The older Svefra milled about the ship, only slightly more productive then their younger counterparts. Partially repaired fishing equipment could be seen strewn around the decks and the aroma of food being cooked could be smelled wafering through the air. This was the life Tyrek was accustomed to, until it all came crashing down.

During his seventeenth year, Lia Sasha Nautilus the matriarch of his pod, decided it was time to change scenery. For as long as Tyrek could remember, they had only traveled from port to port, never had they ventured so close to the uninhabited land. Late one night, Tyrek managed to convince a few of the young Svefra to explore the surrounding area. After crashing through the forest, climbing trees and tackling one another to the lush floor, they came across a cave entrance. Cold air blasted the faces of the youth. Their laughter and shouts died on their lips as they glanced at one another nervously. One of the young boy's, no more than fifteen, shoved the others aside and stepped boldly into the cave entrance. He turned around and struck a heroic pose, directed at the children who were bunched together at the entrance, trying to prove how brave he was. Suddenly, clawed hands appeared from the darkness and wrapped around the boy’s mouth, smothering his screams and jerked him into the darkness. The children froze, unable to process what they had seen.

Monsters, unlike anything the adolescents had ever seen before, sprung from the cave, bat-like wings flaring along their bodies, claws extended forward, eyes burning. The young Svefar children screamed and fled back towards the safety of their home. The Zith took pursuit, picking off the children one by one. Tyrek, terrified, stumbled through the forest, trying to escape the terror behind them. He chanced a quick look backwards and saw a Zith bearing down on him ruthlessly. He shouted in fear just as the creature reached out, inches away from snatching him up. But suddenly, the young boy stumbled over a branch and fell. The ground seemed to open up underneath him and swallow him as he plunged down a small slope. The Zith passed, disappearing overhead.

A few moments later, dazed but still alive, Tyrek took off back towards his pod to warn them of the advancing danger. Finally, Tyrek arrived at the beach where his home was moored a little ways off. But he was too late. The Zith flew around the palivar, attacking the disoriented Svefra. Tyrek frantically ran into the small swells that crashed onto the shore and swam towards his home to help his family. Reaching his ship that he had grown up on, his body locked up in fear as he gazed at the ensuing chaos. He snapped out of it as a Zith honed in on him and attacked. The black monster dove from the air to the deck causing it to groan under his weight as he landed. The Zith grinned evilly at the boy when suddenly the creature struck. He wrapped his claws around the boy’s neck in a vice like grip. He effortlessly picked Tyrek up off the deck and carried him to the edge of the deck. The last thing Tyrek remembered seeing was the Zith’s features contort into a mirthless grin as it shoved him under the waves and held him there.

Tyrek panicked as he struggled to free himself from the crushing water that once brought comfort. Now, it was the agent of his death. Slowly, his vision began to dim as his oxygen reserve slowly depleted. He struggled, but it didn’t matter, the Zith was too strong. Tyrek’s lungs burned, he couldn’t hold his breathe any longer. He inhaled sharply, craving air but was instead met by water that flooded his lungs. The last thing he saw was the face of the Zith glowering down at him before darkness enveloped him.

Tyrek groggily woke up. Sunlight blazed down and he instinctively covered his eyes from the rays. Nausea struck and he rolled over puking up water and left over food. His throat burned and he was barely able to swallow. He gingerly touched his neck in confusion. Tyrek groaned, trying to remember what happened. He opened his eyes again against the glare of the sun and saw two beady little eyes peering at him. Tyrek gasped and rolled to his feet. The small form scurried away, frightened by the sudden motion. It peeked over the coil of rope that it hid behind. Tyrek ignored the sea otter and stared at the carnage that surrounded him. His home and the beach were dead silent. Nothing moved except for the small animal that continued looking up at him.

Tyrek looked around in silent horror. The bodies of his pod, floated alongside what was once his home. Every single member of his family had been drowned by the merciless Zith. His legs gave out from under him and he collapsed to the ground in shock. The small otter, hesitantly crept forward and nudged him with its nose. Sensing no resistance, it crawled onto his lap and curled up.

Tyrek only felt one thing: rage towards the Zith, the ones who took everything from him. Each member of his family had been savagely killed in what once was their greatest ally. The Zith had taken away two things from Tyrek that day, his family and his greatest joy. All that remained was burning hatred.

Tyrek Nautilus died that day with his pod. As he piled the bodies of his deceased family upon what was once their home, he set fire to the ship and sent the funeral pyre out into open waters. As the ship faded into the distance the last thing to be seen before the ship was engulfed by flames, was its name. Velkor.
