Creation of Avanthal's Dire Polar Bear Kelvics

I’ll start with the knowledge and assumptions I have first, before I delve into my questions:

A Kelvic can only be produced when a Kelvic mates with a Kelvic. But Kelvics cannot bond with another Kelvic.

It seems that it would be very possible for a Kelvic couple to mate together and produce a Kelvic baby, while each parent has their own human bondmate.

We know that Morwen has created Dire polar bear (DPB) Kelvics that breed true, and we also know that she needs many DPBs as Icewatch guards who also MUST have human (Vantha?) bondmates…

If all of my assumptions are true, then it seems that Morwen’s DPBs would potentially have complicated familial relationships. If Morwen requires a large number of DPBs, then I guess she’d require every single DPB to mate with another DPB. It sort of seems like there could potentially be a sort of ‘arranged mating’ season in Avanthal, set up to ensure that Morwen receives a steady supply of DPBs.

Could this be possible?

I’m asking because I’m finding it difficult to imagine a realistic, believable familial history for my PC---trying to figure out who Isaac’s mother and father are, and who their bondmates were, etc.

You are operating under several incorrect assumptions.

Marcus Kelvic was Morwen's Grandson... Yshul's Son. That makes him an Alvina in his own right. He was a brilliant scientist that made Kelvic Polar Bears for his Grandmother's City as a gift. They ensured the Vantha People protection and a mobile standing army that did not get too bogged down by snow, ice, and general frigid temperatures.

Now, you are assuming several incorrect things here. First assumption is that a Dire Polar Bear makes another Dire Polar Bear. Second assumption is that you need kelvics mating with kelvics to produce kelvics. Your assumptions aren't fact. Morwen can program kelvics to produce specific kinds of kelvics - any kind - and she can make Dire's breed true Dires. She only uses this knowledge for expanding her icewatch not for her own whims.

The design was that every kelvic bonded with a human and a great many of those bondings resulted in love matches. If bondmates are the same sex, which happens frequently, matings can be sought elsewhere. That fact preserves the genetic diversity of both the Kelvics and their riders. If only Bear + Bear made Bear in Avanthtal, your genetic diversity would be almost nill and everyone would be related to everyone else. So for that reason alone, your assumptions can't be true.

If you have kelvic blood in you or your unborn child does, Morwen can make you or your unborn child a kelvic, and she can pick what kind. The process? It's a divine secret. Remember, the first Kelvics were crafted, not born. It was only about the F6? (guessing without looking) Generation that they started to be bred true.

So does this mean that a child with Kelvic blood can be born as a DPB, even if no one in their familial history had ever been a DPB? And that if this DOES happen, then is it because Morwen had somehow decided that the unborn child would be perfect as an addition to her Icewatch?
