Kain Retsill

Outer Self

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 24 Years
Birthday: 78 Spring 489
Birthplace: Sunberth

Appearance: Kain is approximately 6'1" tall and weighs about 185lbs. His skin tone is a light olive hue, and his hair is a dark brown, that almost looks black. He does not cut his hair frequently, so it rests about two inches from his shoulders. On his right cheek, there is a scar running from the lower cheek, up and out towards the ear. The scar is mostly covered by Kain's unkept facial hair, which is about three inches in length, and covers all but the neck. Kain does not stress body building in any way, and such, his muscle tone is only average.

Inner Self

Kain is a Sunberth native Mercenary. He is a pious man, to only a few select goddesses, and strongly believes in the natural order of life. Daily, he prays to the three Goddesses in a particular order. When he wakes, he prays to Kihala, Goddess of Life; thanking her for bestowing her gift upon him for at least one more day. At noon, he prays to Gnora, Goddess of Logic, Order, and Balance; asking her to be his strength in helping him to bring balance to himself, and those around him. At night, before he sleeps, he prays to Dira, Goddess of Death; thanking her for staying her hand for one more day, and asking for a swift passing when the time comes. As a Mercenary, there are times when he has to take another's life, in which he will kneel to their body and offer a kind prayer to Dira on their behalf.

Being a pious man, with a specific set of morals, there are Gods that he abhors the worship of. These include Rhysol, Nikali, Vayt, Yshul, Uldr, and Krysus. Living in Sunberth and be against murder and thievery tends to be hard for Kain. He wants to bring order to the chaos that is Sunberth. With this mentality, he tries to keep a neutral attitude on all aspects of his life, as how Gnora teaches. This, however, is not always possible, no matter how much he tries to force it. He often becomes quiet and withdrawn when reminded of his past. He can also be seen holding his mother's pendant while thinking.

The Past

Kain's mother died in childbirth and his father was an aging Mercenary. As a young boy, Kain's father taught Kain that balance was important to the world. He was raised to see the balance in everything; especially about life and death. Every time he would ask his father about his mother's death, the only response would be that everyone has to die for anyone to be born. The cycle is only to be respected. As a child, Kain did not fully understand this. His father made him pray three times a day, honoring the cycle of life and death. This belief system was engraved in to his life. As Kain grew in age, and began to understand the workings of the world, the more he realized that balance was missing from the world. He could not understand how the world could be as it is. Everything he knew was about balance and fairness.

In the year 505, when Kain was 16 years old, an old enemy of his, now retired, father saught revenge. It was late at night, when Kain was praying to Dira, a man burst in to their small home. Kain only remembers the pain on his face, and the sounds of steel through flesh. After that, all that was left was a corpse and a dying man. Bleeding out on the floor, Kain's father told him to be strong, and to promise to never mourn his death. Kain never learned who the assailant was, whether he was hired or held a grudge himself. All Kain had was his religious teachings, the skills of a mercenary he learned from his father, and a city full of imbalance. This is when he knew that he was meant to bring balance to the world. Bring justice to the unjust, and take power from those who take it from others. Everything needs to be balanced, yet nothing is. That is the only thing that could cross his mind.
