| 11th of Spring, 512AV. The last thing he remembered - falling. Falling through the sky, wind whistling past his face. He was on his back, hair strung around his eyes, arms and legs spanned out to his sides, rushing towards something big. And then- The morning sun kissing the side of his face roused him to wakefulness. Water was lapping at his legs - he dragged them away and pushed himself up into a sitting position, back against a tree and legs hunched up against his chest. There was little shade - the trees were still in early spring bloom and the rest of the forest was too. If he wasn't so self-absorbed, he might have taken the time to consider its beauty.. but it wasn't what he wanted. He didn't want the beauty of the mortal world.. they had that from the heavens, that he stared at for now. The orange haze that had once been his home.. that he could no longer see. Like a child lost in a crowd - forgotten. They'd always be watching him, but he was just another one of the fallen - Ethaefal. They weren't even true children any more. As the thought sunk into his head, cemented itself, he began to cry. He'd not cried in countless seasons. Hundreds. But he did that day, knowing that he was now resigned to live a mortal life again. Tears streaked down his cheeks and pooled in his fists as he tried to contain himself and failed completely. He screamed and cursed as loud as possible, and then pulled himself as far as possible into the deep recedes of his head to escape it all. Got up, punched the tree, tears staining his cheeks. Everything he had, gone. Death had been the final straw, but she'd given him a whole new chance - a new world to live in, and a new life to live inside of it. Said that he deserved it. Spent his time with so many others like him, surviving in a world that no longer demanded strength. But now it was all gone again, just like last time. Just like last time. And now he'd be forced to spend the rest of his new life going through the same hell as before. And then a voice called out from the forest. "You alright?" |
