Galvin Tad
Basic Info
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Birthday: 3 Fall 493 AV
Birthplace: Nyka
Current Location: Zeltiva

Appearance: Skinny and lean means Galvin had to be a scrappy bastard; his knuckles are flushed red and pink spots decorate his body. In Nyka Galvin's of his orangey whitish complexion, and after puberty hit he never quite took off like the other boys, capping at 5'8". His most noteworthy feature ares eyes that fade from hazel to green as the day wanes, but that itself is hardly noticeable. He isn't glamorous, and doesn't stand in out in the wave, but his looks are quietly charming Galv tends to fancy a dark blue, gray, or black when it comes to attire for easy hiding.

Character Concept

Galvin is a young, lost, and lonely soul seeking his answers in the muck. He is as ambitious as any young man and seeks definition through action: the young buck doesn't do a lot of prearranging but prides himself in being decisive, in the moment.

Kindness is what Galvin greets the common folk with these days, but he still has a bitter sentiment towards authority. Quick with wit, humorous, and cultured Galvin can function well in most given scenarios. Alcohol is Galvin's great disinhibition: He might throw some wrong words and greet punches, or perhaps he has a confession of love, better yet pull his pants down! Anything's right then, no?

Galvin has complex relations with women and has never experienced love. He can be shy or act the boaster because he feels so off; he simply doesn't know how to carry himself. Galvin finds comfort in the brothel and it's simple terms mask his inability to deal with his inhibitions; in all reality he is love sore, depraved and Galvin couldn't be more willing in love.

There is a good bit of guilt on Galvin's shoulders and between that and his fathers death, leaving his family, and other minor sins the boy has built a soft sense of ego, blushing easily and getting defensive when his character or image is in question. Contrastingly, Galv doesn't really take a whole lot of shit, words or blows, whatever they like.

Professionally Galvin has functioned as a salesman up until now, and has worked the back alleys as a pickpocket and overall thief; he has a way with blending in the darkness and striking when the moment is opportune. However, now Galvin seeks to make a bigger splash in the underworld. He dreams to become a more professional man of shadow be it as a spy, professional thief, saboteur, agent, or anything of the sort; his ambitious goals reveal his fiery, tempered heart.

History

The Tads were a poor human family living in the Eastern Quarter of Nyka; the head of the family, Neil Tad, was once a monk of Laat, and his wife Helena was the daughter of a monk of Skerr. Helena and Neil’s firstborn was already in womb by the time Helena’s father had heard of their love, enraged, he would wage a personal campaign against Neil and his associates. The warring monks went blow for blow without loss on either side, but the fight was short as Laat’s monks soon came to understand Neil’s actions. Realizing that he had dishonored their faction by not only putting love before Laat but also falling in love with someone of close-familial relation to a rival monkhood the monks of Laat excommunicated Neil for his actions.

Galvin was born shortly thereafter and Neil struggled to support himself and his family. Being that he was wasn’t provided ample food for himself, wife, and child Neil looked to his neighbors for help. Unable to find legitimate work, Neil took to doing odd jobs for the townsfolk to make ends meet. The family quickly grew to four with the addition of Jarlath and to five with Myrna, all this before Galvin was even much of a boy. Things seemed to be going well for the Tads.

It wasn’t long into his childhood before Galvin was being made a mockery by the innocent, parent taught slander of children. Aside from his families personal shame his physical appearance drew remarks too: while most natives of Nyka were tall and had pale skin Galvin was of average stature and a colored complexion; he looked foreign. The boy would grow up hateful yet envious of his peers, trading blows and blood with them as he wandered into his teens.

When his second brother was conceived Galvin’s father found himself under unusually heavy scrutiny from the community. The monks of Skerr had disowned Helena and claimed to be no longer able to support her in her dishonor; to couple with that the monks of Laat had finally approved an eviction of the Tad family from the Eastern Quarter. As hunger set in so did desperation: Galvin was now twelve and Neil began to teach him what remained of his monk training so they could fend off the dangerous Nykan streets. It was during this training Galvin realized his talent for thievery, and while his father kept watch of the family he would nickel-and-dime food from the monks who thought to lowly of the boy to offer him much attention. Galvin had learned that stealing, contrary to his religious teachings, was justifiable to some, and it was this knowledge that granted him insight into the corruption of Nyka. The monks were a bunch of self-righteous, goal-driven thugs on a personal path under the guise of religious undertaking.

The family had been living inn-to-inn and sleeping the odd nights on the street when Neil hadn’t woken with them one morning. The family flew to the alleys and found a trail of blood leading to town square that was engulfed by townsfolk and men of the cloth alike. They were barbarically jeering as the once proud monk was broken on the rack, and after his limbs had been properly dislocated he was burned at the stake.

Realizing that their future was on the line the Tads fled Nyka and hitched a caravan out to Syliras. On the trip Helena gave birth to her fourth child, Neil.

Syliras greeted the Tads in friendly fashion and took them in quickly. The knights supplied the family with their needs in exchange for work: Helena had become a nanny while Galvin worked at a local tanning shop as a barterer. Galvin, however, remained suspicious of the present authority but, being obliged to accept their hospitality, he kept quiet for the time. Young Tad was eighteen and beginning to show promise as a shop-keep when Jarlath and Myrna began working, the boy was nice and strong making an excellent courier and the girl took after her mother’s work.

Helena would fall in love with a local knight much to Galvin’s dismay; the knights were one thing for the boy, but having one replace his father? That was unspeakable. Galvin began working hard at doing whatever he could to save funds: Taking the odd Miza off the books, collecting shavings of precious metals, even stealing whatever goods floated off a courier’s route; Galvin was dead set on getting out on his own. He began to read of a place named Zeltiva, a land of scholars and sailors, sails and swords, wages and waves. Galvin dreamt often of his new home, he fancied himself to find a girl and begin what was passed on to him as the good life, paradoxically, our young hero also thought his future to be one of shadow and power; in his dream he was always walking a tightrope over that same, jeering crowd his father fell into.

One night Galvin left a note and some Mizas on the family table and went to stay at a local inn so he could flee in the morning. The boy woke and set off to hitch a ride to his city of fable and all seemed well. The young man boarded and the band was about to make its way when Galvin caught a grieving sight: Jarlath delivering a package morosely to a gatemen. The brothers caught eyes and while one ran the other looked away; Galvin had an omniscient guilt lurking over him the whole ride and he would constantly turn in what sleep he could get.

When Galvin arrived in Zeltiva he put his Mizas towards a house and shacked up. Here is precisely where this young wanderer’s story picks up.
