Timestamp:Day 55 of Spring 514 AV
Location: KRI, in Doctor Gaius Alzelin's office
Amolina had finally paid her debt. Her time as volunteer worker at KRI was coming to an end and it was her last meeting with doctor Gaius Alzelin. She sat on a chair in his office - actually the same chair she had been sitting in when she spoke with Valerius, long time ago. Last summer …
“Well, you have actually done a good job here Amolina” Alzelin said. It’s possible that he sounded a little bit surprised. “I have heard about the project my assistant has started in Noble District. It doesn’t seem to be too successful. In case that … idea … would come to nothing, I can offer you a job here, for me. I would say I have a great deal more to teach you about medicine, if it’s knowledge you want !”
Amolina was totally surprised, but being a skilled actress she didn’t show it. She acted calm : she just sat on the chair and smiled politely, and in a businesslike manner she answered: “I’m happy that you are satisfied with my work here, and that’s a wonderful offer. A great opportunity for somebody like me. And I must admit that though Valerius Nitrozian has been very generous to me, his knowledge of course doesn’t compare to yours … you are the most skilled and knowledgeable researcher I have ever met. I would like to work for you above all else ! It’s just that I’m bound by business agreements at the moment, contracts … not only with Valerius Nitrozian but also with a lab assistant named Parnell.”
“No problems miss Moletta”. Gaius Alzelin smiled back at her. “It’s not like you need to be here full time. I’m a busy man and I have a lot to do too. We can meet once in a while. After working hours. I suggest we continue our follow up meetings so I can go on and chek up the development of your health. And from now on I will combine this with teaching you a thing or two about medicine. How does that sound?”
It sounded unexpectedly good. It was an opportunity to finally find out more about the treatment she had received a year ago, the treatment that had saved her life but maybe caused permanent side effects. After all this time, Amolina still didn’t know what that mystical drug with the code name ‘Vipocarine’ was. As she and Valerius had seen Alzelin’s notes she knew the doctor had tried the drug on her and it had healed her. She couldn’t ask about it, as she wasn’t supposed to know anything, but working for Alzelin the way he suggested would maybe give her opportunity to find out. Finally.
“Wonderful” she said. “But after working hours? If I arrive late I won’t be able to get in.”
Alzelin was enthusiastic. He had been about to lose a subject of scientific interest, but managed to make a deal with her. Not only did he want to follow up her health, miss Moletta was also a pleasant looking woman, and well behaved. He might … he was sure they would get along quite well, and it wasn’t half-bad to be the teacher of an attractive woman who admired him. He found himself looking forward to it.
“That’s no problem Amolina” he said benevolently. “We two have been working together for a whole year with the follow up of your health - and as far as I’ve heard from Valerius his leadership has been perfect and he has assured that you have never done a single mistake with the kelvic. A year is a long time…I do believe a woman like you can be trusted with my extra keys to KRI.”
He opened a drawer in his desk, found the keys and handed them to her.
Amolina accepted the keys to KRI with a graceful smile.
A long discussion of work shedules followed. She could use her baby Pearl as cover for being unavailable on the days she would go to KRI, she thought. Valerius and Parnell would hardly ask any questions about it. And what could they say, if they discovered that she found a good teacher in a skill that seemed essential for NMSS? She would be studying medicine with an expert, and they knew petching well that none of them had much to teach her !
