Timestamp: During the later part of Spring 514 AV A few days earlier, Chandray had paid her membership in The Antiquities Sociecty and attended an introduction held by the interesting and inspiring Maltar. At the end of the course had advice the students to sign up for special courses in order to go in depht with the sciences and skills they were interested in. It wasn't possible to do this in an introduction. In addition, the akalak had also adviced the group to use the other resources in the city, for instance Valkalah Acadey and the Library. Chandray wasn't sure yet what to beging with so she hadn't signed for the speicalized coursed yet. Instead she had settled for going to the Library for a start. Her plan was to read up more and add to the insights she had been given at the introduction, and after that she would be able to prioritize her studies better. That way, she thought, she would use her time most efficiently. Chandray wasn't too bad at finding her way in Riverall but she still used her map as she found it pretty fun to navigate to her goal this way instead of just asking people for directions. She liked to know where she was, and she like the feeling of being able to find her path independently. So she put on her weapon belt with the rapier, put the notebook ink and quill she had bought at the Antiquities Sociey in the backpack, and with the map at ready in her hand she left her apartment in Northwind Suites and went out on the street. The Library was situated inside Valkalah Academy, so she would now find her way from Northwind Suites to the Academy. She started walking while she looked at the map and compared the symbols on it with the buildings and other landmarks she could see around her. To Chandray with her passion for maps, this kind of navigation was a simple pleasure she had fun with as soon as she walked anywhre in the city. First she turned left, walking upwards. She could see the familiar tower after a while - The Oathmaster's Tower, which she had never visited, but she knew this was it's name. It corresponded with the yellow circle symbol she could see on the map. When she was near the tower she stopped to look at it ; this three story square building was comprised of white washed stone bricks, reaching about thirty feet into the sky. She turned right and followed the main street towards the bridge over Bluevein. On the way there she passed buildings to the left : Stables, the map told her. She had been there once, when she had hired that horse, Zamora. She thought briefly of the riding lessons she had been given by a drykas warrior who had stopped to help her when he had seen her trouble with the horse. Vanator Denusk. She remembered the name, but hadn't seen him around any more ... well maybe that evening at Alements in spring ... On the right she had Arma'Drex Smithy. She looked at the map just for fun. But she knew that place quite well. She made a mental note to go back and buy that studded leather armor chest piece she had been fitted for but not had the money for at the time. It's was definitely not clear yet what it would mean to be the aide-de-camp of the dhani Rississa, but Chandry had a feeling it could be best to buy armor. And there had been the assasins too, she thought. Yes, she definitely would go back to Arma'Drex and buy armor, one of those days. Next landmark was The Blue Bull, to the left. She had played there and knew this place too. Looking at the map and comparing it with reality she smiled. It felt so good to know her way, it made her feel competent and strong, sure of her goals and she was heading, sure of being on the right way. She walked on and ticked off the Labor Aid ot the right, yet another well known place in the city which had started to feel more familiar now. To the left a huge building turned up : she looked at the map and saw that it seemed to be something called The Gideon Arena. She didn't know much about it, but the Gideon Combat Arena was nigh impossible to miss. Whitewashed steps were leading up to a set of pillars marching nearly thirty feet into the air. The akalaks sure had some impressive places here in Riverfall ... Next she came to the bridge. She walked over it, listening to the roaring water beneath, and unwanted memories haunted her. A fight on life or death, and then the interrogation of the prisoner, herself stooping to take part in beginning torture, putting booth on the mans mouth, that madman Kel Tempest cutting of the man's ear, the prisoners sudden suicide with poison, herself pusing the corpse into the river in order to get rid of it ... unwelcome memories, memories she was't proud ot, but memories she needed to make sure to recall ... She reached the other side of the bridge and with her usual optimistic attitude she shook off the tough memories and felt sure everyhting would be just fine. To the right she found the big building that was her goal, Valkalah Academy. Feeling satisifed with herself she looked at the symbol at the map and read it's name. But it wasn't really needed. The building was huge and golden, golden like knowledge and golden like her dreams about the secrets of the past and i's treasures. She folded the map and put it in the back pack and then she approached the Academy. |
