Birthplace: Suvan Sea Secret : Character Concept Ssedna is patterened after Laticauda Semifasciata; the Black Banded Sea Krait (A.K.A. Chinese Sea Snake) General Description: Highly venemous, but generally docile. Length: 100 - 170 cm; or up to 5 1/2 ft Weight: 496 - 895g; or about 2 lbs Females are generally longer and tend to weigh more than males. Coloring: Black or dark brown lateral (horizontal) bands run the length of the body with (usually muted) blue, grey, or green interspersing the bands and blending to either pale blue or white on the underbelly. Fangs: Medium in size and rigid,located in the anterior part of upper jaw. Disposition: Juxtaposed to it's highly toxic venom, the Black Banded Sea Krait has a very mild nature. Due to this inoffensive, docile nature they seldom bite, even in self defense. Additionally they have few natural enemies, which lends to their placid disposition. Diet: A a variety of fish that live among the coral reefs which they inhabit. Defenses: Coloring and banding act as effective camouflage. Laterally compressed tail acts as both a paddle and a decoy - predators often mistake the tail for the head, allowing the krait the chance to strike and disable the attacker. Potent venom means that an envenomed bite is extremely painful, if not (and usually) fatal. Venom: Potent myotoxin and neurotoxin; meaning the venom affects both muscles and nerves. It is 10 times more toxic than that of a cobra or rattlesnake. Each krait can produce up to 10-15 mg of venom. Only a fraction of the amount produced is a lethal dose.
