Koyu stood a few feet from the dock, looking at Wayne's boat. He admired how different Marlin's Arrow looked, yet how similar it was from 5 years ago. He saw the scratches that were there from the last time he saw the boat, and the new scratches that he had not seen before. He looked over and about a couple feet away was the spot where he threw Wayne down when they first met.
"Damn, there it is. Five years ago huh?" He said to himself softly.
It was about 5 years ago.. the day when I had met the crew of 'Marlin's Arrow'. I remember I was looking for work around the city, and had no real luck finding anyone that month who actually needed help or any task done for them. Silver and I were walking along the docks when we heard a huge commotion going on down by the end of the docks. I began to look around to find where all the noise was coming from when I saw the boat. 'Marlin's Arrow' was printed right on the side of it, and two men were bickering over the amount of load they had on the boat.
At first glance, it seemed to me that the Inartan man was a thief trying to get whatever profit he could get out of the fisherman. The fisherman, however, seemed calm and relaxed.
After a few moments, the two stopped the argument, and began to unload the fish. The fisherman caught a glance of me out of the corner of his eye, and waved to me. The man's kindness sort of caught me off guard. Most fisherman in this day in age are generally more anti-social and cruel. 'It's all about fishing, nothing more, nothing less.' The man stopped working and came down from his boat onto the docks and greeted me. At first, I was hesitant, for even now my policy is 'As long as it benefits me, I'll be friendly' and the man seemed to have the work easily managed, so the man didn't come off to me as someone that was offering work.
"What are you looking at so intently?" The man inquired, smiling, holding onto a small fisherman's net.
"I was just watching you do your work, what of it?" I had always finished every first sentence with anyone with the grasping of the hilt of my blade. It was like a reassurance that 1. I'm not going to be screwed with and 2. I was serious and I knew what I was heading into (For those more combat involved jobs)
The man shrugged and began to talk about his fishing. It didn't seem like the man cared or even paid any mind to the fact that I was being aggressive towards him. All he seemed to talk about was his fishing. The more and more he talked about his fishing, the more I grew agitated. After a few minutes of a one-sided conversation, he grabbed my shoulder. I'm not the type to get all emotional over greetings or introductions, and by that point, I had snapped. I grabbed the man by his forearm and threw him away from me. His crew mate overheard the commotion and came out from the boat.
The Inartan stood about a few inches taller than me, and it seemed to me that he was a couple years older than I was. The man was different than the fisherman, he did not seem to have much tolerance for what had happened, and began to draw his blade, when the fisherman stopped him.
The Svefra had explained that he was getting too close to me, and said that he had it coming. It confused me a bit, the fact that the man had remained calm throughout that whole time. The three of us all relaxed, when I offered to get them a drink at the local tavern.
After a few hours of friendly drinking and introductions, we headed back to the docks. I was about to bid them farewell when Wayne (The Fisherman) had brought up the fact that he was looking for work. He explained that he was looking for someone to help unload the fish and to repair the boat. From that point on, I had worked for Wayne at the docks for half a year. Now that I think back on it, it was a strange circumstance that we actually ended up becoming friendly..
After reminiscing about the his first encounter with Wayne, Koyu stepped back a few feet, and sat down. He brought his knees close to his chest and face, and wrapped his arms around his legs. He looked to his right and saw a decent sized stone. He reached over and grabbed it, looking it over thoroughly before beginning to toss it up in the air. After a few minutes, Koyu stopped and tossed the stone into the water.
Koyu laid back, letting his legs spread out across the dock, and rested his head on his forearms behind him. He looked up at the orange sky as it was setting, and slowly began to close his eyes.
