27 Summer 514 AV

Shoshana had already passed the university the day before. The bath house had been far more interesting to the weary traveler at the time. Her conversation with the Kelvic had been very disturbing to Shoshana, left her with many questions that she wanted answered. But most of all, it had left her with the realization that she knew very little about....well, anything. She had not even known the university had been a university until the buildings were described to her. But she knew what a library was, a good place to begin trying to remedy her ignorance.

History would be the best place to start, she decided. Best to begin with basic knowledge everyone else seemed to have, so she would not appear to be so stupid again. Maybe more information about the many races she might expect to encounter... or an explanation of how an entire city can be made of ice.

Brave New Everything

There was a sort of hush about the place, as though all the library dwellers had taken a vow of silence. Or perhaps they were too busy learning to even have the desire to make any sort of sound whatsoever. Occasionally, a paper would rustle, a chair would squeak against the wood, or a footstep would fall more heavily than the rest. Shoshana was reluctant even to breathe too loudly, and imagined whoever was responsible for clearing his throat every five minutes must be widely disliked by the library goers as a whole for interrupting their peace so selfishly.

It was an even larger selection than her house had possessed, larger by far. Shoshana was certain there were more books congregated in this place than one hundred people could read if they spent their entire lives reading away. So much knowledge! How could anyone ever know that much? His head would explode.

Needless to say, she gave up on finding any book about any specific sort of history. Anything from the section, she decided, would do just fine. But how to choose? The tall woman strolled down a randomly selected aisle. Perhaps something would jump out at her.
