43rd of Summer, 514 AV
Drefan gritted his teeth as the summer sun beat against his arms and neck, his muscles straining as he clung to the heated rock surface. The slope, just shy of vertical, conjured images of Wayne's shipmast in his head.
"Its just like climbing the rigging, Drefan." He whispered to himself. While the Inartan wasn't afraid of heights, his previous attempts to scale the cliffs of Riverfall had only taken him to the closest stairway. It was still a fair distance, but nothing like what he was attempting today.
Every day, for the past several weeks, Drefan had been scaling the walls of Riverfall. There were stairways provided for that sort of thing, but only the sensation of forcing his body to climb, to endure falls, and to get back up again and deal with the bruises, made him feel as alive. Something about climbing the mast in Wayne Wavearrow's ship just didnt quite cut it anymore. His breathing ragged, he finally made it to his usual stopping point, haulting himself onto the flat rooftop of a building carved midway into the stone walls. He turned, gazing out over the horizon, watching the sun as it slowly climbed its way into the sky.
