Coryphee

A Desert Mongrel raised in a painted Caravan

"Lust is to the other passions what the nervous fluid is to life; it supports them all, lends strength to them all ambition, cruelty, avarice, revenge, are all founded on lust."

Image

Name: Coryphee the Versatile
Race: Mixed - half Chaktawe, quarter Benshira, quarter Eypharian
Age: Twenty-six
Gender: Female
Birthday: 1st Summer 488 AV
Birthplace: Ahnatep
Current Location: Ravok

Appearance :
Coryphee is an attractive young woman, not devoid of charm, and able to use her appearance to secure that which she wants. Tall and graceful, she is not a stranger to attention, while likewise having a great ability to blend into a crowd when she wants to. She knows how to make herself fade away, whether against a wall or into a crowd, even though she has quite a distinctive appearance. Grace is personified in her, her long neck seems as elegant as that of a swan while her fine jawline and high cheekbones could be sculpted out of a fragile porcelain. Even her slightly large nose seems more like the gentle crook of a bird's wing, sweeping in line with her face, rather than a fault. These features being so finely balanced can sometimes give an air of great fragility to Coryphee, as if a simple punch could be enough to shatter the delicate composition of her face. For, in a way, all her features are slightly wrong and only achieve beauty if the way they are combined.

She has pale skin, very unusual for someone of her heritage and probably due to a recessive gene somewhere along the line. Sculpted eyebrows frame one coal-like black eye, characteristic of the Chaktawe, and a lighter one, recalling her Benshira heritage, which has shades of turquoise, blue and green, but also a light grey. This mixture of two different eyes is decidedly unusual and rare and, as such, causes many people to suppose her left eye is a glass one rather than a Chaktawe mark. This couldn't be closer from the truth for Coryphee has excellent eyesight, even if sometimes the black eye causes discussion amongst those who see her.
Her dark curls are usually cropped quite short and either left in a tangled mess or styled slicked back, as this elongates her rather round face, while drawing attention to her cheekbones.
Although tall, the young woman's body does reflect the elegance of her features. Her feet are small, but her hands not so much - rather a lot more fine and long-fingered, the hands of a concert pianist. Her figure is light and pretty with a tiny waist which makes up for her altogether lack of bountiful chest though, as she frequently likes to say, a handful is all that is needed.

Coryphee has two invented alter egos, Vasiliy and Juliette, into whom she shape shifts when the need arises but also when she feels like it, both forms having their own characters and, to a certain extent, lives. The other form she frequently takes is that of a black panther, of the same weight as her natural form, which allows her to skulk in the shadows of the city.

Character Personality :
Coryphee has two, very different, sides to her personality. The first, for want of a better word, is cold and calculating - a creature of the shadows that likes to act as the power behind the throne, that likes to manipulate and control others... but without their knowing. Outright power is distasteful to the more bohemian and freedom-loving side of Coryphee's personality. This other side is a complete hedonist. Once a lover of drugs, alcohol, sex and other debaucheries, something which she toned down considerably after the birth of her son, Ambrose, she still remains a libertine, devoted to having a good time. There is nothing more enjoyable to Coryphee than to spend an evening surrounded by good friends, with hopefully the same loose (though not non-existent) morals as herself, dancing and drinking until morning, maybe enjoying herself with some prostitute.

She is however a completely devoted mother, a tigress when it comes to protecting her young son. Even though he has a red birth mark on his face, people now know not to bully him for, when angered, Coryphee is merciless in her desire to punish, and she will usually find a way - even if the punishment is grossly extreme relative to the crime. She never leaves their small apartment at night without making sure he is asleep and someone is looking after him, just as she makes sure that he doesn't run in with the wrong sort of people. In a way, in spite of her relatively poor upbringing, Coryphee is a little bit of a snob, probably a product of her proud Eypharian side and, thus, she speaks with a misleadingly sophisticated accent.

Coryphee can sometimes come across as very unemotional. Firstly, she is Aromantic, meaning that she has a complete lack of interest in romance - she has never been in love, so to speak, and believes herself completely incapable of that sort of love. The only person she truly loves is her son, Ambrose. That is not to say she is asexual, quite the opposite. Secondly, she is almost unable to cry, her tears something that had dried up with her swaddling years. She last cried as a seven year old when she broke her leg falling out of a tree and had to wait, crippled at an odd angle on the ground, all night before anyone heard her cries... and caught a fever as a result. Since then, she has been through child birth, having a wisdom tooth pulled out, being raped by an employer and frequent migraines without even shedding a tear. The only thing which, she imagines, could bring her to tears would be the death of Ambrose.

Positives: Highly independent, strong sense of justice, versatile, open-minded, protective and has great personal strength which allows her considerable control over her actions. Fun-loving, willing to stand up for her beliefs and to defend others, witty and both good company and a good conversationalist. A very loving and gentle mother.

Negatives: Manipulative, controlling, blasé to the point of indifference, cynical, prone to lying but also, when she's in that sort of mood, unnecessary frivolity and silliness. Sometimes, she can also come across as cold, distant or even lethargic. Can often seem blunt and ill-tolerant of the faults of others, especially if those faults are vanity or arrogance.

Coryphee

Alter Egos

"If you cannot say it to my face, then do not say it at all..."

Image
Goes by: Juliette van Daarl
Supposed Race: Human
Title: The reluctant Tightrope Walker
Supposed Gender: Female
Appearance:
Juliette was the original proof of Coryphee's success in completely changing her outer appearance and useful for a number of reasons. Juliette has the appearance of an urchin but also the sort of face people seem to trust instinctively. Thus, as Juliette, Coryphee often has more luck in getting around people and going unnoticed, in spite of the fiery red mop of hair. She has even been used in the past to avoid some landlord or other.
Oddly enough, when she is with Ambrose as Juliette, people are much quicker to think her related to him, but usually as an older sister with the same dark eyes and red hair... and Coryphee is quick to maintain this illusion - a game which Ambrose likewise takes considerable pleasure in joining in with.
Unfortunately, Juliette has been caught out as a fraud a couple of times, causing Coryphee to have to make a swift exit, especially when her ability to juggle, eat fire or perform acrobatic tricks (or rather lack of ability) has been noticed... since that is what she tends to say she does when asked. Otherwise, Juliette makes a very good beggar.

ImageGoes by: Vasiliy Rimsky-Korsakov
Supposed Race: Human, half Benshira
Title: A Sculptor (just don't ask to see his work)
Supposed Gender: Male
Appearance:
Vasiliy was invented so that Coryphee could act as her own husband when the need arose, whether to ward off lusty landlords or straitlaced do-gooders making a fuss about a single mother raising a child. He would probably have never been used except in those cases if Coryphee had not rather liked the respect that the serious and intellectual-looking male form had afforded her. She grew very fond of the character of Vasiliy and developed him further, giving him a surname and a made up history, even if it is quite a short one.
Supposedly, Vasiliy is a sculptor born into a rich merchant family (Rimsky-Korsakov being the name of such a merchant family) but known for his eccentricities, liking to forgo luxuries. As such, via Vasiliy, Coryphee has been able to enter places reserved for men (such as closed brothels) and socialise with some of the higher class citizens of many different cities.

NPC - Ambrose

"The art of motherhood involves much silent, unobtrusive self-denial, an hourly devotion which finds no detail too minute."

ImageName: Ambrose
Race: Half Inarta, 1/4 Chaktawe, 1/8 Benshira, 1/8 Eypharian
DoB: 90th Autumn 506AV
PoB: Lhavit
Relation: Son
Skills: Singing - 15xp, Escape Artist - 10xp, Running - 5xp
Gnosis: None
Additional Info:
Ambrose is Coryphee's son, a small red-haired child of eight years old with beetle black eyes and a red birthmark on his right cheek. When Coryphee found out she was pregnant, her mother urged her to find a way to get rid of her unborn child and again just after giving birth, but Coryphee never, for one moment, wished to. Ambrose was born sickly, supposedly unlikely to live more than a dozen or so days, but his mother's devotion and diligence allowed her to nurse him back to health, careful with her fragile son. By the age of two, the fact that he had ever been sickly or delicate seemed implausible for Ambrose had become a boy, though small for his age, of great personal strength and endurance who, by the age of five, had endured the hottest of Ahnatepian Summers and the coldest winters of the Northern reaches of Taldera. Charming, intelligent and sensitive, Coryphee fell heart and soul for her small child and found herself able to love in a way she had never loved before. If anyone teased him for his birthmark, that person regretted it almost as soon as the cruel words had left their mouth.
Although things are often tough with Coryphee having to cater for herself as well as for the child, she has never considered giving him up... that being possibly her only selfish flaw when it comes to securing his well-being. Ambrose has no qualms about his mother's morphing into different people and, in fact, rather enjoys it, perhaps mistaking it more for a game than for anything serious. Still, he has seen the trials his mother has gone through and hates to see anything or anybody harm her, defending her even if he has no power to do so.
Ambrose has the beginnings of a good singer and the ability to get out of tight spots (as long as they're not too tight)
