Odesse - History

Her father was a strict disciplinarian, teaching Odesse all that she knows. She loved him dearly, but forbade herself for, showing any signs of affection toward the man in fear of ridicule. Her father was rarely home, and the few times he was, he was very intimidating.

He was a very practical man and a lover of hard work. He hated magic, believing that it was "the easy way out" and that good old fashioned field work was the best there is.

The reason for this was that their family came from a bloodline who renounced magic as evil and a way for the lazy. It was embedded into their culture, and anyone who disrespected their law must be renounced and punished.

Her mother was a lover of arts. She would paint and sing and dance all day, writing poems and simply admiring nature. She was simple and philosophical.

Odesse became a mix of both in her attempt to try to tear her parents' attention away from their obsessions that were nearing addiction. However, they paid little mind to her, only tending to her practical needs.

One day, Odesse felt unloved and so left her home with all her belongings. She met a boy living in a village by the volcano, who made her smile and feel like she was more interesting than work and art. He taught her the art of wind painting, how to capture the wind in a bottle and tame it to fly the way she wants it to. He also taught her woodwork, how to craft things out of crude wood with sharpened tools.

Odesse was fascinated by all the new information she was learning. The boy taught her how to find precious stones and all the information about it, claiming that he had found the most precious one that day— Odesse.

She followed his advise, but started to ignore her parents by dealing with her own obsession. She, however, caught their eye.

Her father was impressed by the woodwork and the jewellery crafting.

Her mother was impressed by all three, but especially the wind painting.

Odesse, was however done with them and ran away once again to return to the boy. She discovered that he was a follower of Ikus and had gone to assist him in his grief and rage.

But to her own grief and rage, she followed the tracks of her lover only to find him kneeling before the weeping god despite of the flames dancing. He refused to move out of obedience for his master, and Odesse was forced to watch her lover burn before her eyes.

Horrified and stunned, she was unable to move for a moment. She was rescued by a group of angry people who plotted to kill Ikus. Odesse joined them vengefully, and in the process had used magic to kill his army and assist in the god's death.

Her father found her after the battle, horrified and shocked to find out that she had used magic. He brought a witch to her and had her cursed by stopping her aging for six centuries. She was chained by magic against the tomb of her lover, forced to endure the many seasons that passed.

To her surprise, her body changed with the seasons. She found out she was not mortal. After six centuries had passed, her bonds broke away and  she started aging again.

She now had an anger for humans because of the man who had punished her and the woman who had stood by and done nothing while she remained alive but dead inside. She was genocidal, and would kill a human on sight.

Her mood was determined by seasons. During winter, she was fiery and hot-tempered. During spring, she was cold and calculating. During fall, she was cheerful and optimistic. During summer, she was moody and depressed.

But overall, Odesse was fearful and mistrusting, but her sense of curiosity would get the better of her. She wasn't above hurting and manipulating others if it meant for the common good. She didn't mind minor evils if it lead to her success, and her methods were dark and uncommon but for her, it was effective.

She had a soft spot for orphans, because she herself didn't know who her real parents were. She made no plans to find them, though, because she felt that another pair would be just as disappointing. And dead, too.
