This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

Braggart Square was certainly not the location to go to for some peace and quiet. It was loud. It was busy. People clamoured for attention, sometimes. At other times, people stood up and spoke louder than the rest. They proclaimed their loves, their trials, their successes. In the bells that Adrienna Lynint had been there, simply enjoying a day off, she had seen different couples proclaim their vows and be wed by Cheva, and she envied the freedom that the Freeborn possessed which allowed them to so easily make their choices.

Oh, but she was disgusted by them for the same reason. It was the contrast of feelings that had her there, biding her time as the bells progressed, and capturing spare bits of information that she could use to glean further knowledge from. The smirk that sometimes curled her pale mouth was more devious than kind for a reason.

The Lynint had procured writing materials earlier, with the intention to seize upon the resources available for Dynasts that were interested. Braggart Square was near the Library, though, and she could not resist gleaning a bit of gossip that Lucian might find interesting... or that he'd at least listen to as she reasoned over it.

In her endeavor to begin taking notes, Adrienna had purchased ink in black, red, and blue. She'd bought quills. She'd bought two books. Wisely, she'd brought her backpack from home in order to carry her purchases*red ink 4gm, blue ink 4gm, black ink 4gm, two books 12gm, three quills 3sm. It sat there, upon her lap and beneath her clasped hands. She sat daintily enough, painting the austere image of delicate Dynast in bearing and clothing choice, but she bared the inkings upon her arms and the piercings at her face with a sort of pride that, really, only a Dynast could carry.

To be perfectly honest, the young larcenist had no intention about spending his afternoon striding towards the so-called Braggart Square. In fact, he had originally wanted to spend the day exploring the tomes held within the city of Kenash's Library. To this end, he had dedicated sole day off from serving Lady Adelaide in order to venture into this repository of information. At first, there was not even the slightest hint of a problem; for Nickolai placed his attention solely upon the bottom floor. There resided a rather impressive collection of books on a plethora of topics, both mundane and interesting. Of course, this collection was the sole attribute of the city that Nickolai could describe as "modest" in comparison to something he had seen...for the University's library made this one look like a small heap.

However, the young larcenist kept this particular thought to himself as he did not wish to offend...or disturb the peace of the Library with idle chatter. As such, he strolled back and forth amongst the stacks, browsing the various topics. For a few minutes, he was content to simply look around for something that tickled his fancy; but soon halted in his tracks when he saw it. The tome itself was nothing of immense splendor, for it was simply of good condition and held together by a brown binding. However, the words emblazoned upon its spine caused Nickolai's blood to raise to a boil. It was an account of an attempted harvest by the Symenestra many years ago; one that nearly claimed the life of a Dynast member. Reminded of the untimely demise of Shalita, Nickolai couldn't help but find a seat and read this book.

The came as entertainers and used this "cover" as a means of gaining access to their prey...

A combination of disgust, anger, and guilt crashed down upon Nickolai's shoulders to the point where he had to return the book from whence it came. Despite harboring an immense despisition of the very word Symenestra, what truly bothered the young larcenist was that he blamed himself for Shalita's death. Had he been there, he could have protected her...instead, she now existed as a ghost. In his eyes, her blood stained his hands; and no sum of kindness extended to his former love could ever rectify that. In an effort to take his mind off of things, the young larcenist decided to study that which his old mentor, Rayage, bestowed upon him. However, this would require heading upstairs...which he attempted...Never before had Nickolai been turned away so quickly, and harshly!

It left him so sore that, quite frankly, the young larcenist left in a huff. Now, with his mood absolutely ruined, he roamed about until coming upon the Braggart Square. He had never before been to this location, but it at least was a place to sit down for a moment and cool off. Upon locating a table, Nickolai eased himself down and folded his arms across his chest. Exhaling softly, he began to look about his surroundings and saw the numerous faces. There were a few standing and boasting, quite loudly, and even more sitting around watching. However, there was one that stuck out like a sore thumb; and the young larcenist literally stared. It was an excessively beautiful woman, characterized by piercings of the like he had never seen. She proudly wore the marks of a Dynast, though Nickolai did not readily identify her as a Lynint due to sheer unfamiliarity.

Upon catching himself staring, he simply looked away; not caring to realize just how...moody...he looked.

Adrienna was blissfully unaware that she had been the source of interest, rather interested herself in the grand news of a child born to the Draer dynasty, which perhaps promised her a relative to send a gift to. She had been surprised nobody had mentioned a pregnancy yet amongst the families, but sometimes matters like this were best left to secret, especially if the child was born out of wedlock and the parents were not yet wed. She suspected that the announcement was perhaps because a wedding had been arranged and carried out in secret.

Shame could not be aired in public.

Eventually, the Lynint grew weary of the 'braggarts', and though she smirked, she rose from her seat, smoothed creases in her skirt, and lifted her head to glance around the more mundane happenings in the square.

Almost immediately, her eyes set upon a figure of slumped posture who wore the lines of care in his bearing but who didn't decry his pains to the ears that would have devoured the words hungrily.

Admittedly, Adrienna was taken aback by his presence and his lack of exuberance. For a long moment, she stared at him and tried to remember if she'd ever seen him before. Her eyes scoured his face and didn't find the brand that would have named him a slave, although he dressed too finely to be a member of the poor class. She stared at his hands and forearms now, straining to see a mark, and she thought she did.

It was enough to satisfy her curiosity, and she turned away, faced the direction of the Library, her destination, and started off towards it.
