13th of Autumn, '14 Midday The city was a messy place to be in, despite the care that people took to clean it; it was full of the heavy sights and sounds, the weight of passage, the tumble of dust and the background noise of the waterfall and ocean colliding with a faint thunder, ever present in the back of the landscape. Since her arrival in Summer, Lumi had found her deep blue skin and strange ears and aboral barely warranted a second glance- although sometimes she got those because what people mistook for a short child Akalak was in fact a female Charodae,- and had taken to walking without her cloak pulled as tightly as she had on arrival. She now strolled down the streets with a better measure of ease, not jumping every time an Akalak bellowed out a challenge to a friend or broke into fisticuffs in the street. She had been terrified of their warriorlike natures; they were so very violent, but she'd found that here, in the city, it seemed necessary. Those were thoughts she'd never thought she would be entertaining the way she was at the moment- the necessity of protection and violence. The avocation for self-defence in offensive capacity. Her compliance with it was startling and more than disturbing. But like everyone else affected by whatever was in the air at the moment, the Charodae had felt an almost uncontrollable totally dichotametic violence in her gut. And where did you go to experience that? Well, she'd been here long enough to hear about the Blue Bull and know it was where you went for a bit of rough sports. Although the Akalak who'd mentioned that had given her a leering look that implied something a little less public in terms of exercise. So, with a determined look to her aquatic features, 'Lumi arrived at the notorious tavern and was given a look-over by the city guard who looked like they were worried another violent, brutal brawl was going to happen there- although not, it seemed, from the petite Charodae. She pushed through the azure painted doors and stepped inside, looking around with equal parts curiosity and consternation. There were women serving drinks, and a lot of tall, buff, burly looking Akalak all looking sour-tempered and spoiling for a punch up to start again. She felt the anger in her gut churning to something more akin to nervousness, any one of these Akalak would just about flatten her with one hand- why did she want to get into a fight? What had she been thinking? Lumi stood frozen in the doorway, blocking the entrance and exit, indecision eating her. |
