The original "Celestial Palace" was basically a shack that the four founding demigods of Nyka built by themselves amidst the Djed storms that still raged in the post-Valterrian world. In the beginning, it was they who drove nails into wood and made bricks and mortar for the first buildings. Nyka has come a very long way since those obscure times, and after being temporarily abandoned when the Four moved to their own quarters for a few decades, the Celestial Palace has been their home for as long as anyone can remember. It has since gone through four upgrades turning it into what it is today - the largest structure in the city, and by law the one no other building or tower can surpass.

The Palace rises on one side of the Celestial Square, in the neutral quarter that shares its name. It is perfectly cross-shaped, which each Celestial taking residence in one arm of the cross together with the High Priest of their cult. The central area is where they meet, and also where they grant audiences to the population every fourth day. The audiences are quite possibly the most interesting happenings in Nykan society; they are open to the public, though there is usually a large backlog of petitioners and only matters of great importance can skip the lengthy wait involved. The resolutions made in these audiences pretty much shape the future of Nyka, when the Celestials manage to find an agreement. Often enough, the audience is adjourned with a non-decision and the matter is postponed to a later session.

The Celestial Palace is patrolled by over one hundred monks, or one eighth of their total numbers. Fighting here is usually punished by swift death, no trials involved. It is also the center of Nykan politics and culture. While the appearance of the private areas are a carefully kept secret, the public area in the middle is sparsely but tastefully furnished, with a touch of the Nykan love of religious paraphernalia; candles, incense and small shrines are almost ubiquitous through its halls.
