Sheng's Inn and Storage

Image

Once, when the Southern Trading Post was small and sparsely populated, merchants would sleep with their caravans filled with goods — an unlucky merchant with little in escorts or bodyguards would spend the night with their sleep-deprived eyes peeled for would-be robbers and thieves (for the Ebonstryfe had virtually no business with non-citizens that weren’t immediately entering the docks, merchants or not). Some merchants, without influence or fortune, would spend days on end without rest; the wait for entry into Ravok was torturous for many. Baolach Sheng, a merchant both wealthy and famed, saw these conditions and an opportunity and, with his abundance of lumber and slaves, built what is now Sheng’s Inn and Storage.

Sheng’s Inn and Storage is a semi-detached, two-story building nestled near the tower, some ways away from the base of the hill and the small gathering of tents and stalls and ramshackle buildings that make up the village. The building is large and sectioned into two down the middle of the building; one section where the merchants lay rest, and another section for their wares and goods.

When one enters the inn section of the building, one notices a counter to their right with a very pretty lady standing behind it. The lobby area is small and cozy — a fireplace crackles off to the left, and the majority of the lobby is standing space, sparsely furnished by wooden tables and chairs. The sole window sits to the left of the entrance, decorated by a flower box maintained by the very pretty lady that otherwise stands behind the counter all day. To the far left is the hallway that leads to the various rooms that will house the visitors for the next few days, and to the far right are the stairs that go up, leading to even more rooms. The rooms themselves are simple in design, complete with a bed with a bedside table, a desk and a single chair tucked into it.

The storage section is tall-ceilinged and vast, and sectioned off into large spaces for merchants to store their goods.

Moraya is the very pretty lady that waters the flowers and stands behind the counter all day, showing teeth and being generally pleasant to everybody who walks into Sheng’s Inn and Storage. Akin to an intricately put together doll, she carries herself with the grace and gumption her grandfather, Baolach Sheng himself, taught her. She hands out keys to rooms and storage space for the right price, and always loves a good chat with an interesting stranger; having never actually been to the city in the middle of Lake Ravok, she is filled with interesting rumours of the city for the curious visitor before they arrive.

Nobody knows how she manages to run the building all by herself and, with that mysterious glint in her eye and occasional threatening smile, aren’t too keen to find out how. Some say she was also taught by her grandfather how to make troublesome visitors smile red, and some have claimed to see a glimpse of what may be a gnosis mark; but nobody can accurately say which god or goddess it belongs to.
