AppearanceRace: Drykas
Gender: female
Age: 17 years old
Birthday: 85th day of Spring, 498, AV
Birthplace: Endrykas
Appearance: Reitari is a tall girl, standing at 5'9". She has a slender, graceful build. Her skin is a dark tan from spending most of her life outdoors. She has thick, wavy waist length black hair that she usually wears in a braided rope, or a twist of braids. Her bright crystal blue eyes were once the windows to her soul, reflecting every emotion she felt as clear as day. Now they are dark, and shuttered, revealing nothing of who she is or what she might be thinking. She has graceful, thin, wavy lines spreading horizontally across her back and curling around her arms, all the way down to the backs of her hands. They are reminiscent of the wind. Her back is laced with thin white lines, the remanants of numerous whippings. Mingled in with those scars are more thin white lines that look less random than the others. Some are straight, while others are wavy, or spirals. Some are short, and others are longer. These were carved into her flesh with a knife; shallow cuts, but deep enough to scar. More thin white lines mar her abdomen, thighs, and legs. Still other thin horizontal scars can be found on the bottoms of her feet. She walks with a slight limp in her right leg that becomes more pronounced when she pushes herself too hard.
Character ConceptMany people would say that Reitari is broken. They would be wrong...but it was a very near thing. At the moment, Rei is little more than a shadow of the person that she once was. But there is a fierce flame burning deep within Rei's soul, and that flame has never ceased burning. Reitari is determined to rebuild her life, and in doing so, prove to herself that the blows that she's suffered in life will not destroy her. And while being forced into becoming a Nakivak is yet another severe blow, she will fight to live her life rather than fearing the worst, and assuming that she won't survive.
Character HistoryReitari was born into the Diamond Clan. But when she was three, her parents, and older brothers all died while defending a hunting party who had been attacked by a zith raiding party. Her oldest brother Diran had married Asira, a young woman from the Opal clan. When she learned of her husband's death, she returned to her family, taking the newly orphaned Rei with her. At the time, Asira was three months pregnant with her first child. Unfortunately, she died in childbirth, leaving Reitari alone once more. Asira's family kept the girl, and raised her, but they felt that she was a bringer of bad luck, so they never fully accepted her.
Reitari did the best she could to please her adopted family. Sometimes her efforts paid off, and sometimes they didn't. But when she still hadn't bonded to a strider by the time she was ten, they gave up all attempts to pretend that she wasn't a bitter disappointment to them. Even then, Rei tried to earn their love and acceptance. But their cold indifference took its toll on her. When she was 12, she finally bonded to a strider, but the damage had been done. Even with that success, her adopted family still saw her as an unwanted burden, and bad luck. And when she was 13, she gave up. Reitari ran away from home, and fled Endrykas. Her only desire was to escape. She really didn't care if she survived to reach another city or not.
A few days after she ran away, she was captured by slavers; her strider was killed in the process. Normally she would have been sold quickly, but she caught the eye of the leader of the band of slavers. He kept her as a play thing. Mostly for himself, but he allowed the others to use her as well as a reward, or on a whim. This continued for three years, during which her spirit was nearly shattered. Then the slavers were discovered by a party of Akalak warriors. They were wiped out, and the Akalaks rescued Rei along with the other slaves the slavers had been transporting at the time. The loot that the slavers had with them (things belonging to the slaves they had captured) was divided up among the slaves that decided to stay in order to help them start new lives.

-An old but well cared for short bow; it belonged to her oldest brother, and her father before him. Rei took it when she ran away. The slavers took it from her, but since it was useful to them, they kept it rather than selling it. As a result, they still had it when Rei was rescued, so she got it back.
