Time Stamp: 60th Fall, 510

Khal trudged out of Syliras, wincing against the midday sun as it stabbed cruelly at his eyes. Maybe I can just do it tomorrow he thought... Before his better half replied. No, if you put it off until tomorrow you'll just put it off again then, it's the 60th, every ten days that's how it works.

But... My head hurts... He argued, Doesn't matter, every ten days, you don't want to end up unremarkable or, even worse, ordinary.

Grumbling at himself Khal made his way to the edges of the Bronze wood, moving a little inside before sighing and dropping his water-skin to the ground, his top following shortly afterwards as he started to stretch his body and warm up, swinging his arms around a few times and twisting too and fro.

Every ten days, that was the pledge he'd made to himself a long time ago, that he'd spend one day in ten training and bettering himself, no matter what happened.

Finishing with the warm ups he sighted a tree a few dozen yards away and sprinted for it, reaching out to touch it before turning back around and jogging slowly back to the tree he started at, touching it before turning and sprinting again. He kept going until a thin sheen of sweat covered his body and his breathing came hard, scooping up the water skin and taking in a few mouthfuls greedily.

Once his breath had come back to him the Vanthan sat, closing his eyes as he sought a calm within himself, focusing on a single flame within his mind until everything else fell away. Slowly he opened his eyes and incanted softly under his breath, the alien sounding words rolling off his tongue and blurring together as his Djed flowed out of his hand and coiled as smoke-like Res, the words continued to flow as he toyed with it, changing the shape and texture, from a ball to a coil, to something resembling a bird, even to something that looked almost like a person.

Pausing to let out a long breath, his eyes shifted further towards green and his rumbling whispered incantations continued to flow as he floated the Res shape into the air before him and moved it, the little crude homoculi's legs swinging as he walked it through the air, then shifting it back to a coil and making it wind and unwind before him, lastly moving it into the crude shape of a bird and making it's wings seem to flap a few times as it circled around him. His brow furrowed with the strain of it before he sent the Res into the ground. Blinking as his rolling incantations stopped suddenly and he took another drink, standing up and stretching before another lazy jog around the glade, working the tension from his mind.

Finishing the jog Khal stretched again and then dropped forwards, catching himself with his hands just wider than shoulder width apart as he began to perform basic push-ups, doing ten before moving his hands together and performing another ten, then moving them apart again. Once his arms were trembling he turned over, reaching above his head to grab the base of a tree as he curled his body, bringing his feet up to touch the tree then lowering them back down, he did this over and over again until his stomach muscles burned and then he lets his legs drop back to the ground, panting slightly as he glared accusatorialy at the tree branches over him.

Groaning the man rolled himself to his feet and found a solid branch within grasping distance, taking a hold of it with hands stretched far apart and using it to lift his weight, repeating the motion several times to work his back and shoulders before inverting his hands and performing it that way to work on his arm muscles.

Dropping back to the ground the Vanthan stretched his arms and torso, twisting his body and pulling on the muscles until each one relaxed one at a time and he sat back down for another small drink of water.

Again he closed his eyes, focusing on finding the emptiness within his mind as he whispered alien words quietly and projected his Djed into a small ball of Res in his hand. Willing it away he moved it a few feet from his body before bringing it back, and then tried again, moving it a few inches further away. He continued this many times until the Res ball accidentally slipped out of his zone of control and fell away, dissipating as Khal swore.

A few seconds later he had a new ball forming in his hand, and sent it out to right near where he'd lost control of the other one, pushing it out inch at a time before pulling it back in to relax, his eyes shifting to dark green as his brow furrowed and he battled to control the Res ball further and further out, until it also fell out of his control and dissipated.

Standing up with a groan he shook out his limbs and stretched slightly.

Picking up his sword Khal wrapped the leather tails of the scabbard around the hilt of the weapon to keep it in place, the scabbard made the sword a little heavier, and was supposed to make real fights feel faster and easier by comparison. Sighting on the tree that would be his enemy for today the would be swordsman started with a simple drill, slash down and right, thrust, slash down and left. Repeating the three movements slowly at first and then faster and faster until he was moving as quickly as he could, panting heavily.

He took a few seconds to regather his breath before starting a footwork drill, quick advance and thrust, quick retreat and block, advance thrust, retreat block. His feet kicking up small twigs and dirt as he quickly shuffled forwards and back.

Sighting a knot on the tree he began precision drills, quickly advancing and lunging to try to connect the tip of his weapon with the knot in the tree then backing away again quickly before trying again. His brow furrowed when the tip missed more than half the time and he took a break afterwards, shaking his sword arm out and glancing around the little glade.

His break wasn't to last long however, a few minutes later and he was back at it, sighting on three different parts of the tree now to use as targets, stab at the knot, slice at the shoulder of a branch, block the imaginary riposte, thrust at another branch. He moved with exaggerated slowness at first, making sure to hit each mark exactly before slowly speeding up. As the weapon moved faster and faster his accuracy began to decline until he was all but flailing at the poor tree.

Taking another small breather he moved into his final sword drill, incorporating the targeted slashes and stabs of the last one with footwork, advancing while deflecting imaginary strokes and then retreating again, advancing while cutting and stabbing at the targets then retreating while deflecting new imaginary strokes. His feet shuffled quickly back and forth along the ground as the scabbarded blade weaved and cut and stabbed.

Dropping his blade Khal took a few breaths before looking for the calm within his mind, focusing on the image of a single candle's flame before opening his light blue eyes and murmuring softly, his Djed flowing out into two small smoke-like balls of Res. He breathed slowly for a moment before he began to move them, weaving them in and out of each other, changing their shapes in simple ways, his eyes flicking quickly back and forth between one and the other.

He kept one close while sending the other out a few feet and then bringing it back, then he switch and did the same, lastly trying to send both out at once, losing his grip on one after a few feet as it fell and dissipated. Frowning the Vanthan summoned a new second Res ball, being more careful now as he shifted their shapes into simple forms, and moved them slowly through the air before him.

Beginning to speed up as he moved them quicker and quicker, spinning them around himself and each other until he lost his grip again and they both fell away and out of his control.

Khal did a few more stretches and jumped up and down on the balls of his feet a few times, wiping at his eyes before he began to murmur again, forming the ball of Res in his hand he sent it a few feet away from him and then ignited the outer layer, making the small flaming ball hover in front of him. He made it move through the air, careful not to let it get too close before sighting at the base of the tree and sending it hurling in that direction. The thumb-sized ball not making much of an impact when it struck the ground.

Conjuring a new ball Khal this time shaped it slightly, making it look more birdlike before igniting it, sending it sailing towards his target again but this time igniting the core just when it was getting close to being out of reach, the small birdlike shape burning suddenly brighter before diving into the ground with a small splash of grass and dirt.

Taking a few deep breaths Khal summoned another little ball of Res and ignited the outside, sending it sailing towards the same place he'd sent the others but then adjusting it's course slightly when it was only a few feet away, redirecting it to hit the other side of the base of the tree with a small splash of dirt.

Finally the novice Reimancer moved up to the most complicated manipulation, conjuring another tiny ball of Res and igniting the outside before sending it sailing towards the first location, when it was only a foot or so from the outside limit of his control he adjusted it's course suddenly and then frowned as he ignited the core just before it was out of reach, watching in satisfaction as the little flame ball struck almost exactly where he wanted it to.

This last task he tried several times, occasionally slipping and the ball veering too far off course or letting it go too far before trying to ignite it. After another half dozen tiny fireballs had impacted the ground he stretched and sighed, glancing up at the sky as the sun made towards the horizon.

Picking up his top he slipped it back over his body, shivering as the now cold leather touched his skin, fastening it in place he put his sword belt back on to and picked up his water skin, heading back towards the city as his spirits lifted. That's done now, now I can have another nine days of actual fun.

Pretty straight forward training thread, though it'd be cool to get more insight into Khalzaan's character (even though it's just a training post). Also, as your skill in Reimancy grows, Khalzaan will begin to suffer the effects of overgiving as he continues to draw out res continually as he has here. If you have any questions about the XP/Lore award, send me a message. Good luck in your future adventures, sir.
