First Day In the Forest (Job Thread)

24th day of Winter, 514

The sun was still low on the horizon when Bruinen awoke, he felt the crisp morning air against his skin and on his eyes, he forced his barely awake body out of his bed where he would've liked to stay for another hour or two. Alas today was the day that he started his job as a lumberjack for The Sailor's Guild, he sat himself down in a chair and rubbed his eyes so he could properly admire his new woodcutting tools which he had picked up the day prior. He ate some bread and fish, he didn't care for seafood to tell the truth but there wasn't much else to eat in Zeltiva. When the man had cleaned up his food and eating utensils he loaded up his tools for the day ahead of him. As Bruinen stepped outside into the streets he noticed that he could see his breath in the air, luckily he was wearing a coat, some folk didn't have coats, Bruinen was just lucky he wasn't one of those people.

Bruinen walked down the street towards the outside of the town, trees were out there to be felled and Bruinen sure didn't want to start slacking on his first day in this occupation. As he exited the main city he felt a sense of wariness, as most people knew, the outside world was dangerous, Bruinen dismissed these fears quickly by deciding if he stayed close enough to the city that nothing would dare bother him.

As the blond finally reached the wooded area that he had been trekking to this entire time he set down his tools and surveyed the area, "Nothing out of the ordinary." said the man. He investigated a tree that seemed to be about the right size and decided that he would be better to pick another tree of a similar size that was beside that tree, because in any way that first tree would fall it would get caught on another tree, causing a potentially dangerous situation for the rookie lumberjack. He took out his lustrous axe and took a heavy swing at the thick tree, he repeated this until the tree was barely keeping itself upright, he then proceeded to grab his saw and cut deeper into the trunk, after he saw that the tree was wobbling and he deemed it unsafe to continue sawing he gave the tree a strong shove, unfortunately, due to his inexperience the tree began to fall in his direction. With an extreme rush of luck he managed to get the tree to fall to the side, neither him or his tools were touched by the wooden pole.

After Bruinen had composed himself and looked around hoping had seen his accident he began to cut the tree into smaller pieces that could be transported to town with relative ease. Bruinen found that this was harder than actually felling the tree, his forehead sweated and his arms ached from the continuous sawing and chopping motions. He was glad when he had the trunk into small enough pieces to transport, he carried the wood back in direction of The Sailor's Guild after he had moved the other pieces into a more discreet location, looters would steal anything in this day and age. He felt confident that the new location and the fact that he had covered the wood with snow would keep his lumber safe for his return trip.

As Bruinen approached The Sailor's Guild he thought about his new profession, it didn't pay bad, he could see himself doing it, and it wasn't all that unenjoyable. Overall, it was a great job, perhaps he'd get another job if an opportunity arose but he was content on being a lumberjack for The Sailor's Guild for the foreseeable future.

First Day In the Forest (Job Thread)

Postby Bruinen on December 8th, 2014, 2:51 am

Some sailors waved to Bruinen as he came up to the area where he was to leave the lumber, he had been informed of where to put it the day before when he had showed up to be confirmed for his job. To tell the truth, when Bruinen didn't have a job he mostly sat around with nothing to do, so having a job was better than sitting around with nothing to do all day. Bruinen stared at the sea for several seconds, he marveled at the beauty and strength of the waters, and imagined great sea voyages but stopped himself from just standing there, after all, he didn't want a reputation as a slacker among the sailors. He stopped to stretch his back when he had reached his makeshift hiding spot. As he had expected, all his wood was still there, in the same pile he had left it in. Bruinen headed back with the remainder of the lumber as the sun came what Bruinen guess was the 8:00 AM position.

As Bruinen returned to the guild he felt the salty sea air flow through his hair, it was refreshing to live in a city near the sea, other cities could be too hot, cold or dry, while Zeltiva had a great climate due to the moderating effect that the water had on the area surrounding it. "Thank god it is hot." said Bruinen under his breath, if he was sweating in the winter here, imagine how much worse it would be in the desert during the summer. Bruinen pushed the thought away, his job was far from being one of the city's most strenuous and for that he should be thankful. Bruinen pondered what he would do with the extra money he made from his job that he didn't spend on his living expenses. Perhaps he could go to a brothel or go to a tavern with a couple of friends, whatever he would spend his money on it would surely bring him happiness, at least for a short time.
