To sew a mockingbird...no wait.

The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

Estlin heaved his load onto the deck of Stargaze, though it really wasn't much of a load. He had been shopping, for 'equipment' as he called it, and was bringing home a length of silk rope, a sewing needle and thread (in his pocket), chalk (also in his pocket) and a long leather apron. The apron and rope now on deck, Estlin quickly stepped aboard.

He then took his equipment into the single cabin of the casinor, arranging it on the floor, which was mostly bare. Then he settled himself cross-legged on the floor and began to work.

Sewing was not in his forte, but he had always been interested in the skill. Well, he'd been interested in it for a long while, since he'd began crafting things and animating them. At least today he wasn't going to tackle embroidering. Simple, utilitarian sewing would work for his task.

It took him an incredibly long time to thread the needle. It wasn't because his eyes were bad, it was just that his hands, though quite finessed at tying knots and working with locks, were not adept at putting a small, floppy piece of string through an infinitesimal hole, in an almost equally small object. When he finally had the needle threaded, and a knot tied on one end, he began the surprisingly straining work of teaching himself sewing.

He started on his backpack, trying to make small designs of stitches, which were neither small, nor neat. The thread, luckily, was plain and un-dyed, and so was the backpack. So his imperfect handiwork wasn't very noticeable. After his first length of string was used up on the bag, he cut another and went through the same arduous process of threading and tying it to the needle. Then he carefully set the threaded needle on his table, one of the only furnishings in the cabin, and started mutilating the leather apron.

The apron was an...interesting find. One that Estlin hadn't been looking for, but had struck an idea in the mans head that brought him to his newest project. He had been walking in the Lhavitian market, and as he passed a shop selling various, mostly leather clothing items, he had a sudden desire to work with the material. The apron he had found was of especially thin, almost poor quality leather, which was what he needed to start with. In his mind, at least.

Obviously he wasn't ready to start leatherworking, but sewing would be manageable. He still liked leather though, and didn't like the idea of working with plant fibers like cotton or linen. So he bought the apron, which was thin and supple enough to allow for normal needlework.

Before cutting the leather, he chalked a rough outline of the pattern he wanted onto the leather. He cut the leather with his eating knife, which was small but sharp. He would have liked to use a pair of clippers, but that had been the one item on his improvised list that he had not been able to acquire. The shape he cut looked roughly like a large oval shape attached to a smaller oval by a long, almost curving, neck shape. The smaller oval 'head shape' had several long, rounded strips of leather dangling from it, making it resemble a half-formed sun. Those would be used later, he hoped. The entire form was about two feet long, and one foot and a hand-span wide.
