Ulric Everard

Appearance

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Birthday: 27 Winter, 495
Birthplace: Zeltiva

Appearance: Ulric is of average height, measuring about 5’9”, and is around 150 pounds. He has brown hair, which he often leaves medium length and uncombed, and grey eyes. His beard is often kept short so that there is only a bit of scruff covering his face. His face looks thin, but rounded with a broad, flat chin and sunken cheeks. He does not wear nice clothes but he tries as best he can to keep it presentable, even though he often smells like raw fish and cooked fish, generally he smells like fish.

Character Concept

Ulric spends a lot of his time fishing around the docks of Zeltiva. He uses what he catches to feed himself and trade for the other things he needs. Ulric has also had experience in preserving and cleaning the fish and other food items he makes, from smoking over a fire, to salting, to pickling. Ulric does his best to maintain a full cupboard of preserved food and hardtack. Ulric never likes to go hungry, which was a feeling felt all too often when he was young.

Ulric, at first glance, to be a carefree, joyful person. One of the dock workers that you would see in a bar in the evening, drinking kelp beer and having a laugh with some of the other people in there. But that is something that he never actually does. He is one of the most serious people most will meet, until he gets comfortable with people, then he will open up to the people he’s around. Much of this behavior is inherited from his mother, who was much the same way.

Character History

One of Ulric’s oldest memories are those of fighting amongst his mother and father. His older brother always seemed to love his father’s magic and adored him, even being given the “gift” as one might call it, of magic at a young age. It was not much later that the family collapsed. Ulric went with his mother and Leeson, five years older than the year old Ulric, went with his father. Ulric’s mother, Julia Everard, a Zeltivian native, became a bit of a social recluse, she goes out to work but has not been in any kind of relationship since then and Ulric has not seen her with many adults outside of work.

His rough and often poor childhood led him to begin worshipping Xyna, the goddess of money and commerce, hoping that she would help him in having a prosperous life. Although he has not been as religious recently as he was previously, he still offers prayers to Xyna a few times a week while not expecting much in return.

Ulric was never the smartest of children, but he had the capacity to be if he had ever tried. Ulric always prefered the simple, straightforward path. He was always willing to do the hard work to make his way through life, a lesson ingrained by his mother from a young age, and he did work. At the age of 12 he started doing odd jobs for people, from running mail to helping the people unloading ships for a small amount of money. As time went on though he needed to find something that could provided him with more than these little tasks and by 14 he started to go on fishing trips with his mother, while she was working. By the age of 16 he had decided that he would fish for a living, it was a job that could pay well enough for him to live comfortably.

At the age of 16 Ulric moved out to his own house, paid for by the money he had saved up selling fish that he caught in the bay and from the odd jobs he had done helping to unload ships. Over the course of his years on the docks and in the bay Ulric has picked up a little bit of the Svefra language of Fratava. He has kept the small cottage for the past three years and is still living there moderately happy, even though he would like to move up in the world at some point. His first step towards this ascension through the world is his acquisition of a row boat, allowing himself better access to the water and the ability to carry more fish at once.
