Birthplace: Zeltiva Appearance: Ariane is naturally good-looking with only basic grooming, but doesn't really carry herself like she knows it. Her dark brown hair reaches just past her shoulders, accenting her light skin and green eyes. She is of moderate height, mildly athletic from catching fish for a living, and relatively slim. Character Concept Ariane is logical, inquisitive, and reasonably sociable, but doesn't really get the flow of relationships beyond friends, family, and business. She is nigh-oblivious (or indifferent, it's not really clear) to advances made on her, and will nonchalantly change the subject, unfazed. On the flip side, she is almost entirely unable to seduce anyone despite her good looks. She's tried; the results were far closer to a comedy act than anything else. Not satisfied with the meager rations Zeltiva offers its citizens, Ariane has taken to fishing as her steady source of income. She can catch and cook her own meals, but when possible prefers to split her catch with a travelling chef in exchange for some coin. She is also decently skilled in negotiating prices, and can put this to use to bring in a bit of extra coin, but her talents in this sphere are unreliable, owing mainly to the disjoint in her appearance and demeanor. In her free time, though, she really enjoys working with wood and cloth to craft whatever she can think of. This has yet to result in anything more than a few simple dolls so far, but Ariane enjoys it. Character History Ariane never knew her father, and her mother Xenia would never talk about him. Despite this, Ariane maintained a strong relationship with her mother, and the two would often talk about exploring the world beyond Zeltiva. A favorite pastime of the two was to visit the port when a major shipment came in from a distant land and listen to any storytellers that would indulge their curiosity. Most of their stories were dubious-sounding at best, and not reliable as a source of lore, but they were quite the tale to listen to, and Xenia and Ariane both wanted to set sail to these lands to see if the stories were true. As working as a sailor for Zeltivan trading crews would have meant fixed routes without the freedom of exploration, and buying a ship and supplies to travel freely would have cost a large sum for them both, they set to work saving every last Miza they could get their hands on in preparation for the journey. Xenia, being the savvier of the two, was able to work the local markets, exploiting prices differences wherever she could find them. Ariane was able to pick up a couple tricks from her mother, but ended up having to fall back on a steadier method of income. It took years, but eventually they had saved enough between the two of them for one of them to set out. After a heated discussion as to who should go, Ariane finally managed to convince Xenia to set sail, leaving her daughter behind. Ariane reasoned that the elder of the two should go, as logically her mother would have less time to save up enough money for her own journey than Ariane. But now, with her mother off adventuring, Ariane had to scrape together another small fortune on her own...
