Denali, The Person Basic Information Race: Kelvic (Tiger) Birthday & Age : Winter of 500 AV (9 years old; appears 20) Gender: Female Physical Description Denali is a lithe and toned 5'6” in human form. Despite her active and athletic lifestyle, she is not a stick or completely devoid of shape. She has some meat on her bones, a nice curvature of hip and buttocks as well as bosom. The young woman, being Kelvic, matured far faster than her human counterparts, making her appear and act different than usual human nine-year-olds. She has an decieving age held within her gaze and the way she appraised others, something that is often counter-acted by her tendancy to bare her teeth at those who annoy or surprise her. Inarta by birth, her black hair is heavily highlighted by dark red strands, giving it a red sheen when the light hits it right. Because of her Kelvic nature, her dark, ice blue eyes have vertically slitted pupils. As well, the majority of her teeth are razor sharp save a few in the back which are normal molars. Her face is angular, but still soft when found in peaceful expressions. Her full lips are only rarely turned up in a smile; more than usually she is pouting or giving off a pointed emotionless expression. Her manner is aloof and uninviting, though she is not usually openly threatening in her actions. Being born and raised in Wind Reach, she has adopted the Inarta's accent, and her rich, strong feminine voice makes it hard to hide. She doesn't do accents very well, and more than often she tries not to speak, instead preferring to use body language to give people their answers. Denali in her tiger form is magnificent. She is 43” at the shoulder and a full 300 pounds. Her thick coat is of the richest red-orange with a defined pattern of black stripes. There are few white markings on her face, though her underside is majorly white and tan. In both forms she is missing a few of her upper back teeth on the left side. As well, in both forms she has a wide, ragged scar on her left thigh. This scar pains her, more the broader the range of movement. But it does not inhibit her in any real, physical way; she is just as strong, fast, and flexible with it as she was before. The hesitation provided by the pain, however, has given her a bit of a limp. She doesn't make the effort required to ignore it until the situation is dire. Character Concept Denali is very stubborn. She learns lessons from personal experience and forms her opinions of the world around them, often ignoring sound argument until life proves her wrong. Because of her Kelvic nature, she has a strong desire to be bonded to someone, a 'master', and be just as important to them as they will be to her. But past experience, first with her family selling her and then with the collars and her former master, have caused her to become highly cautious with herself and highly suspicious of others, especially those of Inartan birth. She will not allow herself to be collared by another. If she herself deems a collar appropriate, she will put it on herself and make sure she has a way of taking it off herself. Even if that way is brute force and a knife. Denali was bought by her former master, Karina, at five years old, and a lot of hard work was put into her to condition her to be able to function well in a social environment. Only rarely does is she immodest in lack of dress, and she has developed enough inhibitions to keep her predatory nature her in check. Most of the time. On the other hand, being a hard-working, independent part of society is difficult for her. Instead of trying to get a job like other species, she is ready and available for almost all citizens to ask for help. Heavy lifting, guarding, hunting, scouting, fighting...she can do all these things very well. Since surviving, at this point, is her only goal, she tend only to ask for food or some small amount of money in return for these favors. When she does not get a job, she is content to take care of herself, mostly in tiger form. She has a deep-seated fear of fire and thunderstorms and an aggression to go with it. When scared or protection someone there are only three ways to stop her; win, lose, or point her toward a bigger problem. She will protect herself above other adults, children above herself, and her master, if she had one, above anything and everything. Denali longs to leave Wind Reach and longs for a lover and a master. She does not, however, want to be sold to a lover and master. She is caught right now, conflicted between distrust and a need for companionship, and right now distrust is winning out.

Denali, The Past The Childhood In her first year, Denali learned not to trust those she should be able to. It was probably mostly her own personality that made her react so fiercely to the actions of her birth parents, but what else can one expect from a wild animal? Her parents were sure by the time she was two months old that she was Kelvic, but they waited until the first time she changed form into front of them—that being another month later—to sell her into captivity. The allowed her to become highly sentient and attached before they cast her off. By the time she was a year old, she had been tagged as 'dangerous' and was forced to wear a collar under all circumstances. Her tiger form was huge and strong, even though she was still immature, and she almost killed a person when they scared her senseless. They, of course, blamed her natural aggressiveness. She blamed them. The Rescue At around a year and six months, Denali was purchased by an eagle rider named Karina. Karina was very busy, but spent all her free time matching stubbornness with her charge and encouraging the Kelvic to bond with her. Eventually, Denali did, and soon after she got her first kiss. Karina basically forced Nali to learn some limmited reading in both Nari and Common, but it was slow going. She can read, but it takes awhile and she doesn't like the effort entailed. Karina also had Denali hunt for supplemental food—her tiger form allowed her to hunt for longer seasons and far more affectively than humanoid hunters on the ground. If she spent an entire day about it during the summer, she could gather enough food for several families plus herself. She can hunt the hardier game in the fringes of the winter as well, because of her master's insistence. Karina was a good influence on Denali, teaching her how to function in a human society, but there were some hard lessons learned as well. When Karina was drunk or wanted some extra money, she would 'sell' Denali as a companion. Sometimes the tiger enjoyed it, but often she was resentful. In order to get more for her, Karina taught her some very basic massaging techniques, and made sure she was aware from pressure points in the body. The Death Denali didn't often go with Karina on hunting trips, but she did like to accompany her when she went to the lookout tower. As a Kelvic, she didn't always have to rely on her eyesight to know when a storm was coming, and it was a good chance to lay around doing nothing while still being helpful to society. One day, about a year ago, a storm was coming and Karina and Denali were the only lookouts stationed. They were a little late in getting on their way back to the city, so when they passed another eagle rider on his way out hunting, they gave him the news to deliver to the city and started a quick scout to see if they could reach other riders out hunting. They were almost home when the gales hit them. It was nothing if not sudden, and Denali was thrown off the eagle, toward the side of the mountain, when the winds hit them. She'd heard a snap in the bird's right wing, but she was unable to reach either the bird or her master before she was thrust away by the wind. Just enough thought went through her head to get her to shift form and try desperately to land safely. Not easy, but they had not been very high up at the time and the mountainside was only a few dozen yards away when she'd been thrown off. Still, it wasn't a very nice landing. Her left side was thrown against the rocks, knocking several teeth out, knocking her out, and tearing open her left haunch. She had a few panicked seconds to understand the lightning, frozen rain and what she thought was fire before she blacked out. The Rest She limped to her owner when she finally woke. The storm was passed or passing, and her owner and owner's eagle were both smote on the ground nearby. Both dead. In her shock, both from pain and realization, all Denali could think to do was limp back to the gates of the city. She passed out close by, and was found and brought into Wind Reach by the first person to notice her. Since then a few people have tried to get her to chose them as her master, but she refused violently. Her place as a Chiet of the Inarta is rocky at best as she works hard, hunting in the summer and fringed of winter, protecting those that ask it of her, doing anything she can to contribute and be seen as an asset. For now, her past as a rider's Kelvic and her present as a hard worker are keeping her in her current place. But she wishes so much to leave.
