Deyk

Appearance

Race: Inarta
Caste: Endal
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Birthday: 28, Fall, 499 AV
Birthplace: Wind Reach

Appearance: Deyk stands 5'9" tall, and weighs approximately 150 lbs. Like most Inarta, Deyk possesses fiery red hair, which he keeps short, and piercing green eyes. His physique is strong and wiry, but his teeth are crooked and his eyes are too close together. Multiple scars can be found on Deyk's body, evidence of his adventurous youth. Deyk's wardrobe is plain and simple. When Deyk moves, he is graceful and deliberate.

Character Concept

On the exterior, Deyk does not seem to be very outgoing or outspoken. He is generally quiet around others, and prefers to watch and listen over speaking himself. When he does enter into a conversation, Deyk is blunt and simple. He prefers to communicate through actions over communicating with words. Despite his quiet demeanor, Deyk emits an aura of cool confidence. Very rarely does Deyk lose his temper, but when he does, he can become very violent.

Despite his uneasiness with social encounters, Deyk possesses great bravery and courage when confronted with physical challenges and threats. A natural thrill-seeker, Deyk enjoys risking his life and pushing his body to new limits. Deyk's lack of fear and love of challenge can also be incredibly dangerous to him, rarely will Deyk back away from a challenge he is unable to properly handle.

Deyk is extremely loyal to those he cares about. His loyalty is derived from a strong sense of stubborness and determination. On the good side, Deyk rarely gives up or betrays somebody's trust. On the bad side, Deyk does not change his mjnd easily, even when he is wrong, and hates to compromise. Deyk fears change.

A young man of simple motivations, Deyk possesses a noble heart. He is generally and nice guy, and has simple aspirations. Deyk wants nothing more than to develop into a strong hunter to help feed the people of Wind Reach and hopefully starting a family along the way. Sometimes Deyk can be unpredictable, and he does enjoy bending the rules and playing somewhat harmless pranks, but ultimately he does what he thinks is morally right and just.

Character History

Deyk never knew his father, but he had briefly knew his mother, who had been a member of the Dek caste. Deyk's mother had never had enough time to care for Deyk and his twin brother Falkre. Eventually Deyk's mother was forced to give Deyk and Falkre to one of Wind Reach's large nurseries because she could not support them herself. Deyk never saw his mother again, and assumes that she is now dead. He has grown extremely close to his brother, the only family Deyk has left, and the two brothers enjoy a strong relationship.

Growing up, Deyk adopted the role of the younger brother while Falkre adopted the role of the older brother. Falkre was larger physically, and possessed a more outspoken and dominant personality. Falkre and Deyk did manage to cause a fair amount of trouble during their youth, but they were not responsible for anything too major. As a child, Deyk enjoyed climbing and exploring. He was extremely curious, and loved being outdoors.

At the age of fifteen, Deyk began training to become a hunter. His mentor was nineteen year old Avila, and he was her first apprentice. Meanwhile, Falkre became a glassblower's apprentice. While Deyk was content with his apprenticeship, Falkre became unhappy, and frequently visited the Aeries to attempt to bond with a Wind Eagle.

A year later, tragedy struck. Falkre had finally managed to attract a Wind Eagle to himself, but during their first flight, Falkre slipped and fell. The Wind Eagle had been unable to save Falkre, and Deyk's brother had perished. Filled with anger and lonliness from his brother's sudden death, Deyk began to find it more difficult to focus on learning his trade.

As Deyk's performance faltered, his lack of energy and concentration began to frustrate his mentor. As the winter snows melted and the valley thawed, Avila sent Deyk into the wilderness alone, and informed him to either return with a fresh kill, or not return at all.

Hunting through the woods, Deyk eventually managed to take a position downwind of an unsuspecting mountain goat. Before Deyk could fire a shot, a Wind Eagle swooped down from above and landed on the goat, killing the beast instantly. After a few moments, Deyk recognized the Eagle as the same one who had let his brother fall to an early grave.

The Eagle recognized Deyk as well, and spoke telepathically to the young Inartan. The Eagle, named Varonius, did not seek to make amends for Falkre's death, but instead had stated that it was Falkre's own weakness that had caused him to fall towards his death. The conversation was cut short by the nearby screams of a terrified woman mixed with a loud rumble.

A merchant had been travelling to Wind Reach to arrive just after the snow melted in order to maximize her profits. Unfortunately, she had found herself on top of a minor rockslide, and suddenly she found herself grasping to a nearby ledge for dear life. Thinking quickly, Deyk demanded Varonius to grasp the young Inartan in the Eagle's mighty talons, and transport Deyk up to the woman's ledge. At first hesitant, Varonius complied, and together, the pair was able to save the woman from certain death.

Deyk and Varonius escorted the woman back to Wind Reach. Varonius was very impressed by Deyk's impressive and decisive reaction, and forged a bond with the young Inartan. Deyk disliked Varonius, but opted to become an Endal to honour his fallen brother.
