Percy Donhaeris

Appearance

Race: Human.
Gender: Male.
Age: 17
Birthday: 90th Winter 497
Birthplace: Zeltiva

Appearance: Sleep is a waste of valuable time, to Percy – he strives to spend as little time as possible unconscious. Of course, this has its effect on his mental and physical states. The firm hold of bags beneath his eyes are tell-tale signs that Percy would rather be hunting at nightfall than beneath a soft cover. Pride is a concept that is seldom associated with the boy, his hair takes only the shape given to it by the hand that so often runs through it in stressful times. This, and patches of missing hair due to spiritism experiments, make for an interesting arrangement on Percy's head.

Not tall, nor short, 5 feet and 10 inches is where he stands. Aside, he's a very skinny person, due to a combination of eating too little and exercising (Wandering around, constantly) too often – with of course a good metabolism. Percy's hands are slender but lean, and well looked after. It's his belief that the hands are representative of sentience, and that being delicate with the hands is a good sign of a person's capabilities. Besides the other rough aspects of his face, from weather or poor hygiene, Percy's cheek bones and jaw bones can be recognised beneath the flesh quite easily.

His current garments consist of standard, brown, leather breeches with similarly standard, leather shoes. His attire becomes more decorative from waist upwards. A surf-white shirt is recognised as a sailor's uniform, this is made of linen – while Percy's silken sash is representative of the firm he worked for. Percy wears the sash as a symbol of his honour to the sailors he worked for, and will unlikely ever retire his possession of it. Percy isn't the sort that takes kindly to a pampering, though he does have his soft gloves and scarf to help protect him from the weather. These are dark blue, as is the sash. Over the shirt sits a dark-red vest of medium wool. The vest acts as a warmer and as protection for his sash. Percy's exterior and latest addition to his outfit is a large canvas jacket – his environmental layer and parting gift from his shipmates. This is usually only worn when his survival depends on it, as it restricts access to Percy's pockets a fair bit, and looks quite untidy (it also covers his treasured sash). Unfortunately, Percy requires a belt to prop up his slightly large and heavy breeches. Beneath the outfit are simple undergarments.

Character Concept

The simple, dark mind of Percy is something that projects him deeper and deeper, eternally. Most of his life is spent thinking about the history of the planet and purpose of all things. It's this fundamental concept that drives his passion: to destroy all he can destroy that the Gods have made. Realistically, Percy is an opportunist, seizing every moment and seeking to undo the will of the Gods. His priority is to eradicate 'The Blessed', to remove all with a Gnosis from the world. As such, he strictly worships no idol and is more often than not seen as a nuisance by Gods and their mortal servants.

Obsessed with the ethereal and what rests outside of the world, Donhaeris studies Spiritism and sees allies in the dead (being some of only the few that roam Mizahar to be conscious of afterlife). Although his skill is little more than the ability to be aware of spirits, he aims to one day be able to completely understand what it means to be a ghost. Despite his interest in spiritism, his primary goal will always be to punish the Gods.

Character History

Born of Zeltivan descent, Percy worked as a porter and errand boy for a small sailing firm. The adventure at sea intrigued him, though his concern was mostly around the life and death of sea folk – when it occurred that someone was lost in the blue or assaulted by pirates, the Gods were always the first for Percy to blame. All the more puzzling, was the birth of new sailors at sea. Why do we not choose life? What determines where someone is born? Would the sailors' children go on to do something other than sail?

Eventually, the questioning pushed him away from his duties and he spent more time with his own mind, manipulating his own thoughts into a hatred for the divine. In time, knowledge grew inside of Percy, and he learned of more things to hate.

Inspiration of who to hunt, who to act against, came to him shortly after he learned of spirits inhabiting the ships. Spending too much time in his own cabin at night, or with little work to do in long afternoons due to his strong work ethic, Percy could afford to invest much of his time in old books. The things that he picked up from the books were powerful but dangerous information to him, and soon he understood that if he focused carefully, he could experience the spirits that manoeuvred around him.

After his spiritism detour, he learned about Gnosis marks and religion pacts, cities led by religious icons and the many practices based around religion – it was enough to send the boy crazy, and completely force him away from his hometown. With only the skills he had learned as a deck-hand, and the knowledge of the spirits that surrounded him, he journeyed out to destroy the impressions of the Gods.

Skills

Spiritism
Novice – 15 Skill (+ 15 RB)

Spiritism is Percy's main attribute. It's his lifeblood, and he dedicates a lot of his time into it. Through what he could make of the details in musty, old books, Percy learned the fundamentalist's way into contacting Ghosts, and from there, went on to learn better how to make the most of his connection with spirits. Not only is Spiritism something that interests Percy, it's a driving force for his mission to purge religious icons from the world.

Brawling
Novice – 12 Skill (+12 SP)

Brawling was Percy's outlet of rage since childhood. Being the creepy, lower class, introverted misotheist he is, a lot of his attention came from other youths looking to pick fights. This, and the occassional unproffessional customer service, meant that Percy had to learn to fight. Worse than this, eventually, Percy came to enjoy being in scraps with other men. Sometimes after a long day's work, he'd look forward to coming back to the port and defending his way to his cabin. It was a tough start to life (granted, not as tough as they come), but Percy survived to make the most of it.

Fishing
Novice – 8 Skill (+8 SP)

Percy's most dull moments were spent with a fishing rod in his hands, while his life deteriorated in front of him. Percy hates, above even religious things, wasting time. Setting traps and automatically gaining food is something more suited to Percy, nonetheless, fishing did occupy a lot of his time as a deck-hand.

Wild. Survival
NoviceEnvironment: Forest – 10 Skill (+10 SP)

Percy has never had to spend a day in Mizahar's wild regions in his life, in all honesty, it's something he dreads. As much as he likes nature, Percy sees the outdoors as a threat (and for all deserved credibility, he's right) to his life, and aims to move through it as carefully and quickly as possible. He learned the skill through much preparation. Deck-hands secretly helped him after learning of his plans to leave his service – and were happy to do so, in payment for the long years of labour he'd been through. Day by day, Percy would be given lessons on all things wilderness. He'd learn from his friends all sorts of things, from how to avoid spending more energy than necessary, creating basic twines and which clothes were appropriate for which climate. Realistically, he could narrow down his knowledge base to a very few things to get to where he seeks to be, but he found that a few things (such as which foods come from where, and making twines from simple fibrils) could be applied to his Spiritism.

Cooking
Novice – 5 Skill (+5 SP)

Cooking is actually one of the things Percy did as a deck-hand that he enjoyed. Spending a few hours just to appreciate food was a good way, in his opinion, of spending a morning before hard labour. It was often the case that Percy would assist in the preparation of breakfast, though it was rare that he would be left entirely alone to cook anything. Despite having a passion for cooking, he's not very good at it, and can barely muster together a meal out of mundane raw fishes, never mind prepare land meat to be safe. The extent of his culinary knowledge is basically that food must be hot to be eaten (and usually to be enjoyed).

Endurance
Novice – 5 Skill (+5 SP)

Being essentially an errand runner, endurance was something that slowly made its way into Percy's life. While not significant enough to make him particularly tough, little things, like walking for longer and carrying rough objects without much pressure on the hands, are things that helped Percy maintain his position as a porter/sailor with a smile on his face.

Swimming
Novice – 5 Skill (+5 SP)

It's assumed that sailors spend most of their times floating around in boats on top of water. Many times before, however, Percy and his shipmates have fallen into the water below and had to learn to survive until they could return to something secure. Unfortunately for the boy, he feared the waters terribly. Few things haunt him more than the unknown that resides in the deep. Because Percy avoids situations that could end in water, he rarely has to swim, and knows plainly how to keep his body above the water to await rescue (or enjoy some relaxing time in a bathhouse).

Land Navigation
Novice - 5 Skill (+5 SP)

Land Navigation might seem ironic for someone who spent their working days at a port or at sea, but it's something that has been learned through careful adaptation from the tricks he learned on the waters. Percy has a good idea of the compass points through use of the sun at day, though may find it difficult to coordinate at night. Percy also has a basic understanding of how to avoid dangerous natural places, such as waterfalls or sinkholes - this small bit of information was taught to him as he learned wilderness survival from his shipmates during the later days of his career.

100 Gold Mizas

Heirloom: Large, Dark Green, Canvas Jacket. (1.8 GM)

HousingPercy left his home. He is on the move from Zeltiva to Nyka and sleeps in a tent - I didn't cash in the housing and instead just left the 100 GM starting gold to pay for the tent etc. I thought it was unrealistic of Percy to know how to ride a horse and more unrealistic for him to have hundreds of gold mizas spare. PM me if this is a problem, please, I wasn't entirely sure on the best way to solve this problem but I think I clocked it :p

Location: Zeltivan outskirts – en route to Nyka. Wilderness of Sylira!

Living: Small tent, with bedroll and winter blanket. Percy's on the move and doesn't live in a house.
