A Market of Curious Spiders (Vetari)

20th of Summer, 515

It was the first market day of the season, and the first real break Phlox had since the summer had come Wind Reach. With all the running around the clear the tunnels, patrols in the sky on Ithuriel to ensure the safety of the city, and endless practice to make herself better with her bow, she had barely gotten any time to herself. Especially just to breath, think, and observe. Phlox, although she appeared to be wandering the stone streets of the city, was on a specific mission to the heart. It was market day, and she had heard there were mountain climbing things that she may be interested in. With the recent chaos due to the earth rumblings, it may not be a bad idea to look at the wares offered. Besides, she desperately needed a quiver. In the new flight, she seemed to be out on more patrols which made it difficult to carry enough arrows in hand.

Derdain was there, waiting to admit a line of people. Phlox waited her turn, breathing in the sweet smells of pastries and other delectable food choices that were to be offered that day. Another person was let in, a ginger boy hot on her heels in hopes of getting a treat that day. Phlox’s golden eyes rotated around to a nearby stall, watching the young man wave a bolt of bright blue cloth around in hopes to catch a woman’s eye. He was successful. Another man was allowed in. Her eyes flipped to the other side, where a man was whittling away at a bit of wood. His table had an array of little wooden toys for boys and girls. The next person was let in.

Now this person get her eye because he was clearly not an Inarta. His hair was short and white. Although he was pale like those around him, the gingers were a peachy pale. He, if he was truly a male, was more a pale white. Was there even blood beneath that skin. Phlox had been so dumbfounded by this peculiar creature that she nearly forgot her purpose for being here.

“Your reason for being at the market today?” Derdain questioned, narrowing his eyes at her thoughtlessness.

”I need a new quiver, and to look at the featured climbing gear.”

He let her pass. The breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding escaped her lips. So much for the moment of peace she had been set on having. Her curiosity was clearly ruining that idea. As soon as she was out of sight from Derdain, she headed off in the direction that the weird creature had started on. Soon she was able to catch sight of him again. It wasn’t hard to see a head of white in a sea of red. She got close enough to watch for some time, slowly getting closer and closer. Finally, she just couldn’t take it any more and found herself walking all the up to him until she was standing so close her excited breathing could be felt.

”You aren’t one of us. So what are you? Who are you? I must know this instant.”

Rude much?

NoteMod - Will the first half of this count towards the 'Moment of Peace' seasonal challenge for June? Let me know. I'm working on them this month!
