Characters in Mizahar:

Arandia
Mahaleth

Similarities:
- Both Drykas.
- Both outsiders of a kind.
- Both fighting their nature (enemy = self)
- Both survivors.
- Both intellectually and creatively driven.

Differences:
- Moral compass (Mahaleth: largely amoral character. Arandia: defined [at least by self, though cues taken from surroundings and religion] idea of right and wrong)
- {GOALS} Arandia: To Be Useful and To Belong (to something/someone/an idea). // Mahaleth: To Simply Exist and Discover Himself - To Belong to Himself.

Question: How do two similar paths divulge? (Play tag through the cities of Mizahar and see. Keep forum rules in mind: no two characters must be in the same city at the same time.)

Main challenge for me, writing in Mizahar: patience and attention to detail. Quality consistency. Not used to all the grading business but it is very rewarding. Getting a lot of practice in. Good stuff.

Things writers have had to say about writing --

Kurt Vonnegut said the following:

1. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.
2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.
3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.
4. Every sentence must do one of two things-reveal character or advance the action.
5. Start as close to the end as possible.
6. Be a Sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them-in order that the reader may see what they are made of.
7. Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia. (Or STDs.)*
8. Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To hell with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.

*parenthesis mine

All practice is good practice. I've read a lot of writers say that all you need to do to get better at writing is to write. It sounds simple enough. Granted, collaborative story writing, especially one that requires skill grinding, is hugely different from solo writing for novels and stories and things like that but I reckon it's some kind of practice, and any kind of practice is good.

I need to write with more people. I have a (short) wishlist of people I want to write with already. I'm not going to say who. ( Whoever writes Philomena and whoever writes Caelum, so far.)

So far it looks like I'm gonna get a lot of solo writing in. If you're reading this, whoever you are, please message me and let's start a thread. My characters, my lightning bugs, are lonely for yours.

Come on, baby, light my fire.

Two poems by Jose Garcia Villa:

14

In my desire to be Nude
I clothed myself in fire:—
Burned down my walls, my roof,
Burned all these down.

Emerged myself supremely lean
Unsheathed like a holy knife.
With only His Hand to find
To hold me beyond annul.

And found Him found Him found Him
Found the Hand to hold me up!
He held me like a burning poem
And waved me all over the world.

Now I will tell you the Future
Of God. The future of God is

Man. God aspired before and
Failed. Jesus was too much

God. Since God is moving
Towards Man, and Man is moving

Towards God—they must meet
Sometime. O but God is always

A Failure! That Time is the
End of the world. When God

And Man do meet—they will
Be so bitter they will not speak.
