While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Fall 35, 512 AV

Talya returned to the clearing the following day, to meet with the image for a training session once more. The skies were brighter then, not as dark as the day before, as the rain clouds had rolled out of the soft blue sea above them. Parting to reveal not only the sun, but several fluffy white clouds. The slowly dying grass was still damp however, from the rain fall, and began to seep through the suede of her boots as she walked through the clearing, awaiting the arrival of the image of her training companion. Luckily, Talya wasn't left to wait for long, as he arrived soon after, and squared off with her. At which point, Talya decided to try something she should have done perhaps, days before. She took a deep breath in through her nose, and out through her mouth, and allowed her eyes to fixate on the image's form. The paleness of his skin. The light of his eyes; the shape of his nose and its shadowed contours. The way his body filled out his clothes- his simple blue tunic, and trousers. His black suede boots, the cloak he wore over everything to help keep him warm now that the autumnal season had hit. Another breath, and she imagined that a misty vapor enshrouded him. Undulating wildly like a tumultuous sea. It was black in nature, and seemed to glitter softly. It smelled faintly of sweat, his aura, and it sounded like the clanking of metal, she pictured.

This only seemed add to the mystery that enshrouded the image of her companion. For there was something about darkness that always withheld secrets. As her chest began to rise and fall more rapidly, and her eyes widened marginally, taking on more of a far off look, Talya considered what his imagined aura could mean. She supposed that the sweat indicated that the man worked hard, that, or he had exhausted himself getting to the clearing, and had already worked up a sweat. The sounds she imagined she heard emanating from the aura, which prickled against her eardrums were harder to figure out however. She thought perhaps, that it indicated his fighting nature- how he always tried so hard at everything. How determined the image had been to beat her in battle, for example. Or it could be something simpler, like the fact that the image knew how to use a weapon. A blade specifically, a dagger at least, although she supposed there could always be more that he was hiding from her. The second thought that came to mind, was that the "aura" was indicating that the image worked with weapons, not just played with them. She supposed he could have been a blacksmith, and the sounds she heard were of him hammering away at metal with his hammer on an anvil. But as she thought about the image again, she realized that this was unlikely, as he was never covered in soot or smoke, and his hands seemed as though they hadn't seen much in the way of hard work. Not to mention the fact that he didn't smell at all of a forge, simply because she hadn't wanted him to. Of course, the image could have cleaned up before he came to meet her every day, but she thought this unlikely, and that the smell would still cling to him.

Talya shook her head lightly as she felt something bat her right, upper arm. Instantly, the "aura" fell; the imagined aura that had crept closer, with her scarcely noticing as she thought. "You ok?" the image asked, as Talya blinked a few times, as a wave of exhaustion washed over her, and her "magic" went to sleep. She nodded.

"Sorry, got distracted," she muttered, as the image took a few steps back, and she smiled sheepishly as she retrieved her blade. Holding the hilt tightly in her right hand, before easing into a start position. Her feet about a foot apart, toes pointed ahead. Feet on the same line as one another, with none leading. Chest exposed to onslaught, eyes trained ahead. Both arms held at her side, with the dagger in the reverse grip position. "Ready now," she called, as the image watched her, before sinking into a similar position- the difference being that he held his own blade in a forward grip.

"Ok," the image called, as Talya ran forward, and pulled her right arm out to the side, as though she were preparing to swipe it inward when she came within striking distance. Seeing this, the image twisted to block a bit ahead of time, but Talya tricked him. She threw her body on the floor, and skid across the grass on her knees, past him, swiping at his exposed leg as she did so. Her knees hurt from the experience, grew sore, as they absorbed a grass stain, and she sprang to her feet, as the image bat the back of her left shoulder with his weapon. (The full attack, the full brunt force), missing as she danced away from him and turned to face him.

"Not bad," the image commented.

"Thanks," she said, as the image ran at her.

[Flashback] Mysterious as the Dark Side of the Moon (Solo)

The image swung his blade outward, and then in, following the line of Talya's collarbones. Talya took a quick step back, and raised her blade to block. She pushed against his arm, moving his blade back, before guiding hers into the small opening, aiming for his chest, and then, thinking better of it as he moved to slap her, she pulled her arm back out, away from him. From there, she rotated her feet's position, and began to twirl around his left side. Allowing her right arm to extend out to her right side, so that it seemed an extension of her shoulder. As she moved, the blade spun out, and had the image not turned and blocked her, she would have stabbed it in the back. When their blades met and clashed again, Talya came out of her spin, and retracted her arm, before falling back into her traditional starting position. Feet eighteen inches apart. Right foot pointed ahead, left to the left, forming a roughly ninety degree angle. Body twisted from the waist up to present less of a target. Eyes pointed ahead, left arm tucked behind the back. Right cocked, and held across her body, about a foot in front of the chest, with her dagger wielding hand level with her pectorals, or there abouts.

The image swung at Talya, and she blocked. The image tried again for the same spot by her middle, but she raised her blade and blocked all over again. She then tried to swipe at his lead shoulder, but the image stepped back out of the way. Talya stepped forward, and finished the motion of her arm, bringing her blade around to her left shoulder, as she came within striking distance, she forced the blade back out, following an arcing path about level with her shoulders, so that the blade would spin out and rake across the image's pectoral region, (as the image was just a tad taller than she), but this he stepped back to avoid as well, causing Talya to move forward again, before moving her arm forward along the same line she had just taken, guiding it back from whence it had came. Before the blade had had the chance to move halfway down its intended line, the image blocked Talya's strike, and pulled his blade away, before making a swiping attempt at the outside of her right shoulder. Talya easily swept her blade back across however, and knocked the image's blade out of the way, before moving into the open space she had created.

Talya allowed her right foot to slide further out. Flicking several beads of moisture off the grass she trampled. She then inched her left foot forward just a tad, as she bent her right leg at the knee and leaned into it, transferring the majority of her lead foot while she pushed her right arm forward. Straightening it out as she flicked her wrist, and rotated her blade, switching the grip so that it fell out of backward, and she was able to complete her lunge and stab at the image's heart. The image took a step back however, and then swung at Talya's blade with her own, knocking it back. Instantly, the Ethaefal retracted her limbs, and fell back into a more defensive position as the image swung at her, and she was forced to block the form's advances with her blade once more. She then circled the man's arm with hers, and tried to swipe at his arm, but she was blocked, and the battle raged on after the clang of metal upon metal began to die down.

[Flashback] Mysterious as the Dark Side of the Moon (Solo)

Talya jumped back, narrowly avoiding another swipe of the image's blade at her middle. When his arm had sailed past, Talya surged forward, and struck out as his exposed chest. The image moved out of the way, just as his arm filed back in. It was headed toward Talya's side, but she blocked it by pushing her right arm across the side of her body, and then flicking her wrist until the blade had twisted and gotten in the way of her opponent's. She imagined that the metal clanged again, and ran out over the clearing, before flitting through the grass, and the emptiness between the forest's trees. The pair retracted their arms, reeled in their weapons, and each adopted a defensive starting stance and waited. Eying each other up and down as their eyes narrowed, and they breathed deeply in through her nose, and out through their mouth.

Talya was the first to dart forward, and slash at the image in an up and down, ice pick fashion. First his right shoulder, before he took a step back out of the way, and she forward, and slashed at his opposite shoulder. Talya then tried for his right shoulder again, but missed as he stepped back, and then slashed at her with his own weapon. She didn't have the time to pull back, and he smacked her with the flat of his blade on her left, exposed arm. She felt a sharp pain surge through her, but then there was nothing as he retracted, and she pulled back a little, before pressing on ahead. Swinging her right arm out to her side, before cutting it back in, in a loop aimed at the side of his neck. The image stepped back however, and avoided this too, before he began a volley of the blades.

First, an attempted strike to Talya's middle, where the blades met and she imagined that they clanged against one another. Then they met again by her right shoulder, then the left, then down by her left hip, which was dragged over to her heart. Then she nearly struck his right shoulder, but was blocked by his blade. She tried to swing around and smack the outside of his arm, but she was barred once more in the midst of her progression. They met again a few times by their middle, then by their right hips, and left, before each grew tired of this volley, and they pulled themselves apart again. By then, each was tiring, as evidenced by the rapid beating of their hearts, the rapid rise and fall of their chests, the way their breaths seemed to sound like gasps and rasps more and more.

Talya wiped the sweat that had gathered on her brow with the back of her hand. The image did the same before they put their game faces back on, and he lunged for her. Extending his blade-wielding hand to stab her in the heart, but Talya knocked it away, and moved into the opening, jabbing at the image's chest wildly with both hands and her blade. Some of the attacks got jumbled together, others were blocked, or struck nothing but air. Very few hit, and it cost Talya a strike to the outside of her arm, before the image resumed his wild volley. Striking both the outside and inside of her body- arms, legs, torso, hips, waist, chest, belly, shoulders. He hit several times, as he moved surprisingly quick for someone who seemed so tired. Although Talya did manage to step away, and block a few times by raising her weapon to meet his.

With a huff. They finally pulled apart a few minutes later and sheathed their blades, agreeing to meet once more on the morrow.
