Dhanya felt petty.
She loved Khiara. She owed Khiara, for all those times she looked out for her and picked her up when she was drunk off her face or kept an eye on her when she was sick. For all the times she had tested the Vantha, just to check that she wouldn't go away or give her up.
But.
She was angry because she had told Khiara all of her feelings, even if she hadn't told her much about her past and Khiara had never once said a word about liking Van. That frustrated her terribly. If Khiara hadn't told her, did that mean she didn't think Dhanya could've handled it?
Well, chances were she would not have handled it exceptionally well. Still, she would have tried, been jealous but tried. Maybe it wouldn't have been good enough. Effort meant something, surely? She wasn't good at holding back from attachment, from trying to protect the few bonds she had from other people interfering. It had just blown up in her face. What she had been coveting and trying to keep hadn't been hers in the first place, so why try again? She didn't know how to make it work.
Even Khiara. She couldn't keep her anymore either. Someone else was bonded to her now. Humans just... Had it so easy that way.
Dhanya sat outside her tent with Katya in her arms and wondered if she would see Khiara that day. She'd sent her a message, asking her to come but she wasn't sure if the Vantha would. Dhanya had left it an awfully long time before even trying to connect, what if the older woman had finally had enough? Dhanya wasn't sure she could handle that.
