Season of Summer, Day 26, 515 AV
Lenya shifts the fabric entry to her lonely tent, blinking in the early morning sunlight. The sun still hung low in the sky, just above the horizon. So she had not slept the day away. Perfect. She sighed contentedly before changing, and slinging a quiver and her new shortbow behind her back. After her Pavilion had reached what the Ankal had considered capacity, when Lenya's nephew was born earlier that season, Lenya had been quick to free herself of their constant presence. Of course, she hadn't really thought much about what living alone really meant. "Responsibilities." She muttered grumpily, scratching her cat Yuli between the ears before stepping out into the warm, clear, early morning air. Responsibilities such as procuring your own food now that the food given to her as a going away present had run out, and not relying on your sister to wake you up before you get in too much trouble for oversleeping. She trudged out into the open fields outside of Endrykas' current resting spot, yawning and muttering discontentedly, not quite ready to tackle her first real hunt. She wasn't just going to track something this time. A whiny behind her made her turn back for a moment to see her faithful strider, Fekek, his dun head at a questioning angle. "Not today." She responded. Kelwyn knows Lenya didn't need help mucking up her "stealthy" tracking. She waved goodbye to Fekek before continuing away from Endrykas. After some (hopefully) silent wandering, Lenya found a beginning to her hunt in a more... undignified way than most. She squeaked quickly as her foot plunged up to her ankle into a small hole. She quickly withdrew her foot as the sharp pain quickly subsided. With a sudden note of realization, Lenya quickly flipped onto her stomach, peering into the hole. Small bits of fluffy stuff clung to little roots sticking out into the hole. She darted a quick hand in, plucking a fluffy bundle from the walls. She rolled the material in her hands. Rabbit fur? It seemed likely. And based on the size of the hole, it was a big one. She smiled triumphantly, and pushed herself up onto her knees. She sent a silent prayer of thanks to Caiyha as she noticed a broken trail of the grey fur. She slid her bow into her hands as she crept forward in a crouch, to keep below the high grass tops. She followed the trail a few feet, before she saw the grey rabbit through the grass, it's ears pricked. Lenya aimed her bow at the rabbit's exposed neck, biting her lip as she struggled to remember whether pulling the bowstring was more effective with your middle finger and index finger, or just your middle finger. She decided that it never hurt to have some extra support, so she rested two fingers around the newly knocked arrow. She held her breath as she waited for the fat rabbit to lower it's anxious stance. When it did, she let her arrow fly with her exhalation of breath. She was close enough that the arrow flew fast and true, pinning the new corpse to the ground. Lenya let out a shout of jubilation as she rushed forward, retrieving the arrow and her prize. Her first kill! And a good sized one at that. With any luck, she would be able to share with Yuli as well. She whistled as she strode back to Endrykas, stroking Fekek's nose as she sauntered home, the hunter triumphant.
