James Claude
"Jim Cloud"

Appearance

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Birthday: 6th of Spring, 500 AV
Birthplace: Sharai Peak, Lhavit, Kalea

Appearance:

Jim is unusually tall for a human, at a height of 6'9" (182 cm), and rather lanky. He weighs in at around 180 lbs (81 kg). He has brown hair and brown eyes, has the scruffy growth of a burgeoning beard, but none of the fullness associated with truly magnificent cheek-warmer. Jim's face is angular, and he has a prominent nose. His clothing is nondescript browns and beiges, and he tends to keep to this style not by desire, but necessity due to lack of funds. He could be described as handsome, in an average common way.

Character Concept

James Claude is a dreamer, more than anything else. He yearns to create worlds for others to explore and be entertained by, and yet he also wants nothing more than to escape reality and lose himself in those worlds. Real life is a kind of beautiful mystery, half boring James to death, and half exciting him with all of its many possibilities. According to James, the many fantastic and wondrous things that populate and fill Mizahar near to bursting are nothing compared to the contents of his own mind.

A struggling artist, a freshly minted adult, a lover of stories. James Claude is on the cusp of beginning his own story, and he has no petching idea where his story will take him. He is however, doubtless that it is indeed his story.

James is also a thinker, and he loves to grapple with and to tackle new ideas. His fondness for a good argument has gotten him into trouble before, but at the heart of this desire for conflict is a good natured yearning for mutual understanding. James lives for the next great idea to ponder, and seeks relationships that will enable him to share his fascinations with others, and that will let him be bombarded by new and contradictory points of view.

Constantly putting things off, being forgetful, leaving commitments to the last second. James Claude is so notoriously incapable of remaining in the moment that he was given the nickname of "Jim Cloud," which contrary to most people's first assumption, has nothing to do with his abnormal height.

James Claude is pupil of history and culture, who adores finding new ways of doing things, and exploring the customs and traditions of other people. He expresses this interest in languages, the mundane arts, culinary disciplines, the magical arts, as well as in pursuing new experiences to try as fodder for the written words he aspires to set to paper. James has been known by a kind of personal motto of "Speak, Listen, Learn" which is a newly developed part of his personal philosophy. Its simplicity guides his conduct in the day-to-day, and he hopes that by using those three precepts as his guiding instrument, that he'll be able to attain something akin to greatness.

James Claude is many things, but at his core he is a dreamer, a thinker, and an explorer. His drive to further understanding and become a more complete version of himself, all while also working to create more and more impressive expressions of his boundless imagination, sets him apart as a truly bright star shining in Lhavit. Time will tell alone, if all of James' promising beginnings, will lead him to make something of himself.

Character History

Pre-History (500 - 517 AV)

James was born to a loving mother and father who both worked as tea-farmers on Sharai Peak. His childhood was hard, but fair. He was lucky enough to have lots of time for leisure, whether it was merely playing with the Okomo, or getting to take one of many trips to Bharani Library. As a result, James became infatuated with books and stories more generally. Through his teenage years, James started yearning to make something of himself, and so he started filling books with his writings.

James' first true story was one he wrote in a dog-eared journal his father gave him, that he titled The Wondarin' Preecar, read as The Wandering Preacher. It spanned the entire journal, was full of spelling errors, plotholes, and grammatical mistakes. His parents were eminently proud of him for doing his best, but several encounters with more literate lhavitians who looked over his work convinced him that he had plenty to learn.

James explored religion at this time, seeking to gain a better knowledge of the gods that dwelled on Mizahar, some of whom overlooked the world, whilst others interacted more directly. He found himself liking the ideals and domains of Eyris, Leth, Rhaus, and Zulrav, although none of these deities were sufficiently compelling to convince James to devote himself completely to any of them. Practically speaking, he felt the same love and devotion towards the gods and goddesses of the skies as any Lhavitian, with particular admiration of Leth. Visiting the Temples of The Sun, and of Time in his religious quest did give James the opportunity to better his writing skills, as he read through many of the texts that the priests used, and asked scribes to look over his own work and give him some pointers.

James had gained some expertise in several areas by the time he attained adulthood. He had picked up a few things in the realm of agriculture, having been a helper in his family's tea field since he was a boy. His technical knowledge of the skill is minute, but he was not wholly ignorant of the process involved. James also helped his mother cook meals, mostly as her assistant, but he had done several (unappetizing) dishes before.

As James approached his eighteenth birthday, his parents gently nudged him towards moving out to live on his own. The boy had yet to seriously pick a job to earn kinas, and his latest enthusiasm was attempting poetry, and while he was lost in his endeavours at composition, James' mother and father quietly moved him and his possessions out to a second cottage that they had moved out of after a particularly profitable year for the tea markets.

Thus at eighteen years of age, James finds himself away from his family and still at a loss as to what to do with his life, not knowing how to start his own story. His only potential lead? Visiting the Seekers at Bharani Library and endeavouring to become a novitiate. The recommendation had been made to him several times in his youth, something the Savants had said he would only be ready for when he was older. James had no idea if was ready, but he was willing to try.
