Race: Dryka

Gender: Male

Age: 18

Birthday: 40, Summer, 497

Birthplace: Family Pavilion, Endrykas

Appearance

Atlas has a lean build; not very muscular, not insanely skinny, nor overweight. He has shoulder length brown hair that he (depending on the situation) has kept up, or freely down. He often has facial hair, varying in length due to his vast travels. He has bright, pale blue eyes. He has fare, sun kissed skin. His eye brows are thick and often furrowed. Atlas’ windmarks consist of cluttered, intense amount of thick, black writing in the form of tattoos up and down his arms telling of random epics, all of which consist of heroes who go on long journeys ultimately ending in their death (all of which are testament to his now deceased grandmother). Atlas reads each epic, one by one, each night before he sleeps. After he has read all of them he adds another, and then repeats the process, so on, and so forth.

Character Concept

First off, let me get some real life off my chest. I’ve been debating for a long while whether or not I should join the U.S. military. This character, as a reflection of the side of me who wants to be a soldier will stand in that role; one of a soldier, or a similar role, with the general notion of helping people and causes.

Second, I’ve been really wanting a site to dedicate too, hopefully this site can be one of those. So I hope to be posting a lot and going on a number of adventures. I want Atlas to be very adapting, and always learning. I want him to be a friendly welcoming character to nearly all of Mizahar. What type of character accomplishes all of this? One who doesn’t have a specific job, one who can travel, fight, laugh, love, and be creative. All of these I hope to incorporate into Atlas.

Third. I’ve always loved the concept of a monster hunter for hire. I want this to be the occupation of Atlas, therefore he can engage in all of the activities I’ve mentioned above while making money and have some pretty interesting, fun, intense roleplays.

Character History

Atlas was born in a traveling Pavilion in Cyphrus. He was a hyper child who seemed a little off from the rest in the Pavilion. When the children were learning poetry and songs of his people he hardly took interest. Pavi, his native language came a little harder in his early years. The most boring of them all was learning about Web Magic. Atlas took more interest in swordplay, fighting, exploring and being who he really wanted to be. All of which are reasons it took nearly all of the 19 years Atlas has been alive to be truly accepted as a working, deserving member of his clan.

Atlas’ best friend was his grandmother, who shared many of the characteristics he did. She told him great epics about divine heroes, wielding swords and shields, fending off nightmarish monsters. His parents (devout members of the Dryka way) wanted nothing more than to have Atlas succeed in the teachings of his people, thus creating a barrier between themselves and Atlas. Although the barrier worried his parents, they-- through the secret they kept from Atlas-- knew why he was having troubles.

Around the time Atlas was maturing, he was chosen by a strider by the name of Nightingale, a beautiful, but old mare. Atlas was chosen at a fairly late age, just as Nightingale chose at a fairly late age. They made the perfect team. With Nightingale as his steed, Atlas became immensely helpful. He helped the clan from the outside: he rode far from the web to accomplish jobs given to him from cities far, and nearby to obtain additional funds for the clan. He obtained news and mail from his fellow clans, as well as anywhere else news was needed to be retrieved or sent to and from. He also was one of the first lines of defense, fighting monsters detected to be a threat, he often fought whatever threatened his Pavilion with such passion it scared some of his fellow warriors. All in all, he was whatever the clan needed outside of their closed walls. He did this job very successfully, and was rewarded with his windmarks which lay testament to his now deceased grandmother.

After a few glorious months of riding to and fro the great cities and clans of Mizahar, a large blow hit Atlas’s Pavilion and Atlas himself. A group of unknown beings struck Atlas’s clan at night while Atlas was a way on a job. When Atlas returned he found a large part of the clan to be dead, while the others were mourning and trying to repair the Pavilion, Atlas approached the bodies of his parents. As he mourned, one of the well-known Ankals of his Pavilion took Atlas to the side. The news that followed devastated him.

Atlas was informed that he did not share the blood of his parents, and that he, may not even be among the Dryka. He was told of a night where the Pavilion was traveling and came across a small village that had been destroyed, only a babies cries could be heard from the horrific wreckage. Atlas was found and adopted by the family (who at the time were having troubles conceiving). Laying on top of the bundle of fabric Atlas was wrapped in was a long sword with a white wolf at its pommel. The Ankal retrieved the sword and told Atlas that if he could find whoever owned this sword, or knew any of it, he might find information involving his now incomplete identity. The Ankal expressed how sad he was, and told Atlas how his now deceased parents were planning to tell Atlas soon, but due to the attack, could not.

Over the next few weeks Atlas thought long and hard, day after day, and came to a conclusion he thought was the best of them all. Atlas told his Clan Leader that he wished to hold the same occupation he was given, and between battles, message-runs, or other jobs, he could search for any information involving the sword and ultimately more about his identity. Atlas loved his Pavilion dearly and couldn’t bear to part with it, but he also wanted to find out who he really was. The Clan Leader understood, and granted Atlas’ request under one condition: that whilst searching for clues of his identity to also search for who might have been responsible for the attack on his pavilion. Atlas quickly accepted.

That night Atlas packed a large pack, and rode with Nightingale to whatever journey lay before them, coming back in intervals to pay the clan, and fulfill his other duties.

Note on Yvas:
Yvas :
The Drykas use what is called a Yvas on their horses rather than bridles and saddles. A yvas is what equates to a girth with an attached breast collar combination hung with hooks and topped with a small flat hand grip that lays along a horse's shoulders. The Yvas is often placed over a colorful pad that acts to protect the horse from the rider. The grip fits over a strider's withers which holds the yvas in place. It almost looks like the type of thing vaulters used on their draft horses, though it is more functional than a vaulter's pad. The horses can free themselves from them if they got separated from their riders, and do not have tack to entrap or tangle them when they are running loose. The yvas has ring tethers on it for handling a set of wither bags and a waterskin, and is often decorated in knot-work beading that identified the horse and rider as part of a specific pavilion.

Drykas ride without any headgear or bridles on their horses at all. They do not use any halters either.

Nightingale
A Strider who has chosen Atlas as her rider. She’s fairly aged.
