The Performances

Mind over Matter :

"For our next performance you will be given a special treat. All the way from Yahebah, witness the exotic fighting prowess of Leiwinn!"

Four torches were suddenly lit, their dancing light shining on a woman dressed in red standing center stage. Her palms were pressed together, head down. One leg was off the ground, her foot pressed against the other leg like a figure four. The woman was completely motionless. Several tense moments passed as the crowd waited for the figure to move. Suddenly she kicked out and up, her leg extending straight into the air. The light shimmered off her glimmering red skirt. She brought her leg cracking down, tapping the floor in front of her with a sound that echoed across the audience.

As her foot touched down her other foot came around in an arc, completing a roundhouse in the blink of an eye. When her other foot came down she dropped into a forward roll, leaping into the air as she came out of it and executing a flying kick toward the crowd. She landed and executed another series of punches, kicks, and chops. The performance lasted about thirty seconds as she displayed a well rehearsed set of impressive martial moves, finally returning to center stage at the end of a flying roundhouse and landing into a bow.

The rest of the torches light up as she bowed, waving to the audience and shouting thanks to their applause. "Alright," she shouted, "I'm going to need a few volunteers." The crowd went wild, people raising their hands and jumping about in excitement even though they had no idea what they were volunteering for. Leiwinn smiled eye to eye as she selected three large men from the crowd, calling them to the stage with her and having each introduce themselves.

She drew forward the first, least dangerous looking of the three large men. "Now, I know you might think it wrong to hit a lady," she shouted to the crowd and the man both, "But I want you to punch me. Don't worry, you wont lay a hand on me. You have three tries to lay a solid blow!" Leiwinn smiled and took two steps back from the man, motioning for him to strike. After some internal debate, laughing, and encouragement from the crowd the man finally punches out. The punch didn't have much force behind it, the man didn't want to hurt the woman. But Leiwinn reacted swiftly, grabbing his wrist and twisting it just so that he was brought to his knees before her. The crowd roared with laughter, and the man now slightly embarrassed stood back up and tried again, this time with a little more force.

This time Leiwinn ducked the punch and jabbed the man in the kidney, not hurting him but knocking the wind out of him. Again the crowd roared with laughter, and the man grew angry. He wasn't about to be made a fool of again. Leiwinn took two steps back and motioned for the man to strike one last time...

The man did strike, as hard and fast as he could. But Leiwinn was prepared, changing her stance lightly and grabbing the mans wrist, following its momentum forward. She took a single step toward the man and, using the momentum of his still thrusting fist flipped him up into the air and over her shoulder, leaving the man lying on his back staring at the big top. The crowd was furious with laughter as Leiwinn helped the man to his feet and told him to take a bow before heading back to his seat. "He gave it a good try though, right!?"

Throughout the performance Leiwinn shot fleeting glances at the largest of the three men, imperceptible to the audience at large but the man noticed. What he didn't know was that each time they locked eyes Leiwinn worked her magic, and the hair raising feeling the he was beginning to get was starting to gnaw at him by the time the first man threw the final punch.

"For my next trick, I will take down the man using only this finger!" Leiwinn raised her hand holding up her index finger for all the audience to see before turning to the two remaining men and motioning for the smaller of the two to come forward. Again she shot the big man a glance and a smile, which creeped him out all the more.

"This might hurt just a little," Leiwinn said to the man with a smile as she stepped forward and struck out suddenly with her index finger, hitting a pressure point just below his collar bone. The man crumpled to the ground and the crowed roared with shocked delight, amazed that so small a woman could take down such a large man with just one finger. "Thank you, thank you everyone! How about another round of applause for our lucky man here," she shouted as she helped the man up. As she did so she looked over his shoulder to the final volunteer, her gaze laced with fear inducing djed and gave him a big friendly smile.

"Now, for my final act, I will defeat this man without doing anything at all! Step forward please, sir." The man cautiously stepped forward, unsure of himself and wondering what was causing the tingly feeling on his spine that bothered him so much. Leiwinn took a moment to ask the man a few questions, what he did, if he had any combat experience, if he knew her, and then moved him into position, a few paces from her.

Leiwinn said nothing; she just stared at the man. The crowd began to murmur as they waited for something to happen, but unbeknownst to them Leiwinn was channeling her djed into the already nervous man, still unaware that he was the target of a magical attack. What he did know was that this small woman, for whatever reason, was scaring the living daylights out of him. As the tension began to build, so did the mans fear and apprehension, and when it had marinated just enough, Leiwinn unleashed as large a blast of terror as she could without overgiving.

Run.

The man heard the voice in his head, certain it was his own instincts telling him what to do. At first he did nothing, but then slowly the mans eyes widened as the power of the terrifying djed sunk in. He let out a little yip before suddenly turning on heel and running screaming off the stage and toward the exit. The crowd was silent, unsure of what just happened. After a second or two one person started clapping, and then the whole crowd joined in and Leiwinn turned, shouting thanks to the crowd and giving a final bow before exiting the stage.

Sword Dancing :
Kusuri was nervous and excited so I guess she was nercited? Besides that though she was ready to go out and face the crowds. Her katana was bought fairly recently so it wasn't dull or anything like that. Still it felt strange, not to use to weilding such a thing Kusuri wondered if she would survive this. But who cared about that?! IT WAS TIME TO BE AWESOME!

Kusuri steped out shyly, the area was dark with torches surronding a small circle in the middle. Kusuri took her place in the circle and waved to audience happily as she called out. "Hello everyone! I am the wonderous sword master KUSURI! I need lots of concentration for this act so please cheer now instead of later!" She raised her arms up in celebration although she wasn't getting much of a reply from the audience, she was so young after all. Not really getting any replies she sighed and decided to begin her act anyway despite having ZERO amounts of cheering.

First off it was a fairly tough thing to do, but eh she had to do it. A stage hand threw two logs up into the air, Kusuri watched them like a hawk. As one was about shoulder height she drew her blade, it was a basic horizontal strike. Kusuri crouched a little lower as the blade cut through the air along with the wood. The next one fell behind her. She hated this part, but she did it fairly well. Jumping up in a turn she slamed her katana through the wood before it even reached the ground. 'Whew that was pretty good' she thought to herself.

The next part was a little harder though. The stage hand quickly threw three logs into the air, waited a bit and threw another one. Kusuri didn't get to much time to rest, but she swinged herself in a circle. Holding the blade with both hands so it would be strong enough to cut through them all. Each piece of wood was succesfuly sliced but the last one the stage hand threw was still coming down. Kusuri stoped her spining by placing her heel in the ground and slicing up catching the last one.

The next part was brutal, the stage hand smirked as if he enjoyed chalenging Kusuri. Kusuri glared at him as he threw an armfull of logs into the air. These rained down randomly and Kusuri couldn't predict where they would come from. Basicly shrowering in front of her, Kusuri slashed at them quickly with an x like strike. Most of the logs crashed down in pieces, while others fell with only chips of them cut off. That was a problem, and something Kusuri would have to improve on.

Almost on the last part Kusuri stood triumphantly as the stage hand chucked logs up into the air variating between the previous throwing style of the other presentations. At first it was a pattern of slices Kusuri did, X slash, followed by a spin then the same slaming down method, and last a standerd horizontal slash that Kusuri had to redo her footing for, which made hitting it a lot harder. In rapid sucession Kusuri was worn out sooner then she expected. "Stop....." The stage hand eyed her supciously but stoped anyway, she should have countinued longer but he suposed this time would be okay. Kusuri was breathing heavily, but tried to regain composure long enough to not show it. Littered around her was a ton of wood, and the stage hand wasn't looking forward to cleaning it. The crowd stared in amazement suprized by how fast Kusuri could move.

Finaly this act was ending, and Kusuri looked at the audience and exclaimed, Thank you for coming, my act is almost at an end, but before it does I will now demonstrate my favourite skills. They weren't her favourite skills but it sounded nicer that way instead of just saying, I'm going to sword dance, saying it that way takes away all the mysteriousness.

Begining she she holds the back of the blade with her left hand and grabing on hard to the hilt with her right. She starts slowly moving her hip out to the right and left, and skiming the blade along with the movement a few inches above her skin. Then bending back she places the blade a little above between her eyes. Quickly bending back she starts a flurry of movement. Side steping to the left while holding the blade straight by her stomach, she flicks it out and twists it back. Letting it hang she picks it up with both hands this time. Twirling around her arms high in the air the blade barely touching her nose. Then stoping on a dime she frees her left hand dashes out with straight infront of her. She bows as sweat drips down her forehead. The crowd cheers, and the nercited feeling has passed.
