Bronze woods Just outside syliras

Description "Alex Common" Alex thoughts "Myrian" "Fratava" "Others"

A soft wind rolled through the trees. Alex had opted to go light today. Leaving the plate and chain and even his leathers at home. He’d brought with him three things. A quiver of longbow arrows, his longbow, and to cap it off his dagger. Alex stalked quietly through the trees. His foot falls light and practiced, even and steady. He let out a slow breath the sharp green of his eyes peering through the shade of the trees. Even in the midday sun it was still difficult to keep a full eye on any kind of prey.

He was out in the bronze woods to try and help clear his head. A full week had passed since his failure. Since he broke his vow. He could feel his hand instinctively tighten around the longbow, anger filling him as he felt disgusted with himself. So much so that he didn’t notice the twig he stepped on, the resounding crack echoing through the empty space. Met with a low snarl and a growl.

Alex whipped his head about him hoping to catch sight of the origin of the snarls and the growls. Alex spotted the source but not before they were already running at him at pace. Three good sized wolves. Fangs bared and hungry. The winter had not been kind to them and as such they looked thin almost ravenous. Alex drew his longbow knowing that if he didn’t do this right he was food. Drawing the longbow with a practiced ease he tracked the first wolf.

One…Two…Three…Fire! He loosed the arrow the weighty projectile puncturing the creature’s skull as the beast skidded across the ground with a wet slop. He drew a second arrow but now the wolves had picked up their pace almost gliding across the ground, grey spectres of hunger. Eyes sunken and sallow like they weren’t even there. Just black depressions of nothingness. Alex grew a little frantic recalling events not too long past. The growing panic rising he loosed another arrow, and punched through the second wolf’s chest.

Panicked by the situation and his coupled events his normal filling of calm faded and dissipated. He looked on in shock as the now seemingly formless mass of hunger and jaws clamped itself on his shoulder Alex screamed in pain feeling the fangs sing into his flesh. The weight of the wolf and the force of the impact knocked him to the ground. He wrestled back and forth. Gaining enough purchase to pull his dagger free form its moorings and he rammed the blade through the temples of the wolf what little light remained in the creature’s eyes died as the blade sunk in.

Alex Hissed in pain as he pried the wolf’s jaw open before it clamped shut permanently and hauled himself back to his feet. Wiping the blade off on the fur of the now expired wolf he slipped it back into its sheath and picked up his bow. Blood rolled from the now open wounds soaking his once green shirt through with a black-red stain. Alex groaned and picked up his bow with his right hand, the pain in his left shoulder growing. He needed to get back to the city soon. Else something worse could possibly come. Only then did he see a figure in the distance.
