4th of Summer, 516

Nemori danced through the trees, enjoying the feel of snow against her skin. Every so often her fingers would brush against the trees, and the solidness of the wood reassured her. Cold air rushed into her lungs as she moved and she enjoyed the sense of purity it left, the almost burning sensation that seemed to reach inside with each breath.
Although she felt safe she carried her short spear on her back, just in case. The forest could be dangerous sometimes, she was not a fool. It was not a forest really, she knew that, it was just how they refereed to the splattering of trees that decorated their hold. Each step left a satisfying crunch of snow followed by the rustle of her coat. Sparkles of snow dust danced around her as it got swept into her movement. It felt almost as if the forest was aiding her movements, joining in with her joy.
Her mother had let her wander free today, needing little help around the stables and she was happy to enjoy the forest alone. Her eyes were a pale blue as she roamed. She had no location in mind, just simply to wander and explore. She was not moving fast, she did not wish to get lost or draw to far from her home. In the distance she could the occasional chittering of animals.
Out enjoying their own freedom.
She smiled at the thought.

Flight of freedom.

Before long she came to a halt, staring up at a tree. It had many branches at different heights that arched outwards in a beautiful display. Her eyes flashed pink as she assessed the tree, before her eyes settling into a shade of purple. Her plan was paused as she pulled her short spear from her back, carefully placing it against another nearby tree. The large weapon would only hinder her and she was sure that it would be safe on the ground. Nobody was around, and if someone did attempt to steal it she could yell at them. She tested the first branch by pushing on it.
The first few branches are always the hardest
Nemori lamented internally, before starting her climb. The first step required her to haul herself up with her arms and swing into the branch. The cold snow did not make it any easier.

Flight of freedom.

As Nemori climbed higher and higher she started to gain momentum, partly because of the more concentrated clusters of branches and partly due to sheer force of will. The wind got louder as she climbed, whistling into the hood of her coat. Feeling glad for the fur which lined it she paused her climbing to look around. Her first thought was to judge the distance to the ground.
It would definately hurt if I fell from this height.
Then her eyes turned towards the sky, it had started to snow and she could see the flakes dancing downwards. Her eyes had returned to the pale blue they were earlier.
How serene
Hooking her arms around one of the higher branches she decided to take a quick break from the climb. For a moment she concentrated on slowing her breathing, focusing on the up and down of her chest. It did not take long to return to its normal pace, she was accustom to the cold and as such it hardly hindered her. The height was enough to give her a view through the trees. She could see the tops of some of the wooden buildings nearby.
How long have I been wandering?

Flight of freedom.

Nemori’s stop on the tree was nice and she enjoyed staying still for a while. Eventually she looked up again, assessing the next leg of her climb. As she searched for the next few footholds a bundle of twigs and sticks caught her eye. A nest! She argued with herself over climbing closer. She did not wish to scare the mother or the chicks but her curiosity got the better of her. This time she climbed more carefully, taking each branch with care and making sure not to touch the branch the nest rested on. Shaking the branch would do a lot of harm to any chicks or eggs hidden within. Her climb was much slower because of this but eventually her pink eyes peering into the bundle. Blue eggs with brown speckles lay in front of her, downy feathers piled around them. She puzzled over them.
Has the mother abandoned them?
She decided it was unlikely, the eggs looked well protected from the weather and it was less travelled part of the forest.
I should come back and check on them. Maybe the mother would appreciate some fabric for the nest

With those thought she started to climb down from the tree, fearful the mother would return and think poorly of her presence. Blindly searching for the branches below slowed her climb, some of the more difficult parts of the tree proving a challenge. She pushed the hood of her coat down from her head as she climbed, hoping that it would stop her vision being so obscured. It helped a little but she was still mostly climbing based on touch. As she climbed lower she started to glance more and more at the ground, her purple eyes reflecting the light from the snow. She was near the bottom, she half wondered if she could jump from here.Deciding against it her confidence still surged from the successful climb and she began to climb down faster and faster, until eventually… She felt her foot slip, her body starting to tumble through the few remaining branches. Most of the smaller branches snapped under her weight and she landed with a thud on the ground. Her wrists and knees jarring painfully as she landed.

“Oww” She called, sitting up in a huff and wiping the snow from her hands. A Flicker of deep green danced in her eyes as she inspected the damage. Thankfully the snow had not been hiding any rocks or sharp things and her fall was not very far. This time she was relatively unscathed.
Be more careful
She scolded herself. The pain had already started to fade. For a moment she simply sat, enjoying the pause from her adventure. She considered her options for a moment before sighing. She did not wander much further from the hold on her own, she knew it was not safe.
One day
It was a hollow promise, she knew that. Finding her footing once more she gathered up her spear, attaching it to her back once more began she to follow her trail away back into the centre of the hold. Despite her small tumble it had been a good adventure.

Notes :
Great starting thread, Nemori. There was a serenity to this thread. It's nice to see some peace in Mizahar. One thing I would caution you on is post lengths. Some of these could have been combined to make a larger post. It doesn't need to be changed. Please just keep that in mind for the future. Please make sure to edit your request to 'graded' in the queue. I'm pretty new to grading, so feel free to PM me if you have any questions or concerns about or additions you'd like to your grade.
