Appearance

Race: Vantha
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Birthday: 92, Winter, 493.

Birthplace: Avanthal

Appearance: Silvia has slightly darkened skin stretched over her rather wiry frame. Standing at 5 feet 3 1/2 inches and weighing 99.6 pounds, she is not to terribly impressive to look at, despite being considerably muscular. She has long black hair that goes almost to her waist and occasionally glimmers a deep, iridescent purple. Her hair is usually pulled back into a tight braid, keeping it from getting caught up in things and ensuring it cannot be easily pulled.
Her eyes shift from a pale green, to a startling bright blue, to an indigo color when she is excited/nervous, calm/happy, and frightened/angry respectively. Though they are rarely just one color, Silvia's eyes are usually a continuous swirl of color.

Character Concept

Silvia is a free, young woman who is planning to see as much of the world as she can. She wants to be able to at least get basic meanings across in other languages, and to have tales of her travels stored in journal to share with any who would care to listen to them.
For a Vantha, however she is fairly bad at storytelling, being only about average among them. She doesn't quite fit in, which is another reason she is travelling.

Character History

Childhood :
As a child of about 5 years, Silvia was a typical member of Avanthalan (Avanthalian?) society. She was, consequently well known throughout by name, as many children were. Only one thing marred her otherwise wonderful, blissfully ignorant childhood, and that was the fact that no one knew her mother or where her mother had gone, as a matter of fact, no one could even remember what any of the three women that had left shortly after her birth had looked like. Not even her own father, the woman's husband.

Though this bugged her from time to time, Silvia never really thought about the parent who was missing from her life. Not until about four years later when a strange man named Ulbrik had come. He had been weird, not seeming to mind the cold like some visitors, and he even resisted the hospitality of her people, claiming that he loved nature too much to go inside. Some shunned the old man, some were nervous around him... but no one knew why. Usually Silvia's people loved visitors and were once hundred percent hospitable. He stayed for weeks. It was the longest anyone had stayed with them in a very long time, but even so several people expressed their relief at his disappearance. But his disappearance also set of a spark of adventure and curiosity inside of Silvia, making her restless and yearning for new sights and sounds.

Teens :
Five years after the man, Ulbrik, had vanished and Silvia was 14, Silvia begged her father to allow her to wander the world for a while. She swore she'd be careful and come back home safely, but she knew just as well as her father did that they weren't promises she could keep easily. Wenston, her father, told her to wait two years before requesting a solid answer from him, because he couldn't stand the thought of his only child leaving and possibly never coming back.

In that two year's time, Silvia had been avoided by marriage plans, to her relief, and had told all her friends about how she was going to leave and bring back tales from different places. As a typical adolescent, she neither realized nor cared to learn about the awful state of the world. On her 15th birthday, a very close friend of hers gave her a thick, well made knapsack, which Silvia later found out was made by the other girl herself. The next year flew by impossibly fast, though it seemed like an eternity to Silvia. The day of the two year mark came and went, but Silvia waited an extra 32 days because she felt kind of bad for pressing her father like she was.

When she did ask, however, her father gave her an iron staff about six feet long with intricate engraving of an ivylike vine spiraling halfway down the metal cylinder from the top. It tapered off near the bottom, whereas the top was about two inches in diameter, the bottom was a mere one inch.
It was when he gave her this staff that he agreed to allow her to go free of the city. He also told her the history of the staff, in which Silvia was surprised... it had never left the confines of the icy walls around the city.

She had the knapsack, which had been waiting for this day, packed before the night fell over that day. She was going to sleep in her spot one last time before heading out, and nothing anyone could say was going to stop her. She was restless but fell asleep rather quickly, eager for the next morning to come.
Despite her drive to go, she slept heavily into the morning, resting herself up for her adventure.

She awoke about lunchtime, much to her disappointment, but readily ate and collected her knapsack and staff. Then was the hard part: saying goodbye to everyone... She didn't exactly look forward to it.
After goodbyes were said, she all but ran out the gateway, telling the on duty guards goodbye as well. The longer she lingered, the less she'd want to leave. She held the staff close to her chest, somewhat diagonally to avoid tripping, and ran until the great wall of ice... the protection she had so long known... was but a speck in the distance. A shimmering, glinting speck, but a speck nonetheless. It was only then she slowed, panting for breath and leaning heavily on the staff. It was rather chilly, but that was to be expected... the wind was picking up and she was not near any valid windbreak that she could see.

It was looking for shelter from the weather that she found Ulbrik. Ulbrik had been sleeping in a small chain of three caves when Silvia had wandered in. They struck up conversation and began traveling together, as despite all her people's mistrust, Ulbrik was quite nice and kind.

In the seemingly short span of time from then until well after her 19th birthday were filled with plenty of danger and tidbits of learning on her part. She had practically forgotten of her promise to return home and was absorbed in the sights of the world, and the stories Ulbrik told.
He accidentally let slip a bit about magic and that instantly sparked Silvia's interest. Any thing risky or iffy was likely to interest her, and she was persistent in bugging the man until he divulged the information she wanted: He was a mage.

Up to Present :
Silvia let the subject of magic rest for a few seasons, it being Fall when she brought it up again. But when she did, it was to ask to learn such... which didn't please or surprise the old man. He reluctantly began teaching Silvia his magic, Auristics.
She learned relatively quickly over the next two years, reaching a Competent level. They kept travelling and it was loosing it's element of fun for Silvia, who started to consider returning to her home. Ulbrik noticed her starting to lapse in her concentration and willingness to go new places. Once confronted, Silvia admitted that she was thinking about returning to Avanthal.
It was then that Ulbrik decided to tell Silvia about her mother. Silvia learned that her mother had actually never been to Avanthal, but instead she had been left outside the walls with a note adresses to her father. Ulbrik knew this for he was the one that carried her there as favor for her mother.
After learning as much as possible about her mother, Silvia decided she didn't want to go back to Avanthal after all, and continued on her travels.
What she didn't expect was to be ambushed by other magic users. There were four of them, though only three attacked. If asked, Silvia wouldn't be ble to recall the magic they used because she only remembered how terrified she was -for herself and Ulbrik- but also because she didn't spare much time to learn of other types of magic.
